This was my first time visiting Fukaya Station, and the first thing I thought when I stepped out was, “Wow! What a stylish station!” The red bricks are so beautiful. Fukaya Station features a red brick building modeled after Tokyo Station’s Marunouchi Building. Apparently, this design was inspired by the fact that Fukaya supplied bricks for the station’s construction. Another reason for its popularity is that Fukaya is also known as the birthplace of Eiichi Shibusawa, famous for his portrait on the 10,000 yen bill. I ‘ve been interested in an inn in Fukaya for a while, so I decided to stay overnight. Before heading to the hotel, I thought I’d take a quick stroll around town. So, let’s get started. The first place I visited was Takinomiya Shrine. This shrine is already visible from the train, and it’s just a one-minute walk from the south exit of JR Fukaya Station. Takinomiya Shrine in Fukaya City, Saitama Prefecture, has long been known as a shrine dedicated to the god of water. As the god of water, it is said to grant bountiful harvests, prosperous business, and safety for the home, drawing many worshippers. The sound of the waterfall echoes through the sacred grounds, cleansing the soul. It’s a healing shrine where nature and history blend in harmony. First, let’s purify ourselves. [How to use the chozuya (water purification fountain)] The standard procedure is to use a ladle at the chozuya (water purification fountain) to purify your left hand, right hand, mouth, and left hand again. Finally, purify the handle of the ladle and return it to its original position. After purifying with water, we offered a greeting to express our gratitude for being able to set foot on this land. Coming into the grounds, I feel as if my soul is being cleansed. We arrived at the rotary side of the station. We spotted a mechanical clock with Fukaya City’s mascot, Fukka-chan, spinning around. Eiichi Shibusawa supposedly appears every hour, but we missed the timing. Yes. The overall atmosphere on the rotary side of the station looks like this. I think I’ll take a stroll around town a bit more. And here, there’s a magnificent bronze statue of Eiichi Shibusawa. I’m strolling around town. I’m walking briskly with the station behind me. After walking for 5-6 minutes with Fukaya Station behind me, I found a tea shop. At first, I thought it might be a Japanese sweets shop, but it was a tea shop. Then, I was intrigued by their soft serve ice cream and was drawn in. It’s so lovely. It’s a historic tea shop founded in 1877. So I ordered it. It was a rich Uji matcha soft serve ice cream. It’s an original matcha soft serve ice cream made with a generous amount of carefully selected, high-quality matcha from Uji, Kyoto. The fragrant matcha flavor spreads in my mouth and lingers in my nose. It was matcha soft serve ice cream, as you’d expect from a tea shop. As someone who loves ice cream, it was a blissful experience. Since I was there, I decided to buy some tea, and I bought my favorite “Asatsuyu” tea for myself and my mother. I arrived at a rather quaint building. This is Fukaya Cinema, a mini-theater. It’s apparently the only movie theater in Japan converted from a sake brewery. Inside, next to the ticket counter, there’s a casual cafe where you can take a break. Let’s take a look around the grounds. It’s reminiscent of the early Showa era. It’s an exhilarating feeling, like stepping into a stage set. Apparently, it’s actually sometimes used as a filming location for TV dramas. The grounds also feature a cafe and a secondhand bookstore, making it a popular spot not only for movie buffs but also for those who enjoy retro atmospheres. Oh? I discovered fortune telling! So I decided to try something called “water fortune telling.” I wondered what it would say? The water was really murky, with lots of floating bugs, so I decided to do it at the hotel. So, here’s my lodging for this trip: Kinto. A warm-hearted inn founded 200 years ago. Let’s go inside. Since this is an inn, a staff member guided me to my room. So, I’m suddenly in my room, but let’s start with a room tour. This is the overall atmosphere of the room. The tatami smells lovely. There’s a sink and refrigerator right inside the entrance. Yes. The desk is also wood-grain, perfect for a Japanese-style room. So lovely. The telephone is so modern. The walls are a subtle matcha green, very calming. The bed is very compact and single, perfect for a Japanese-style room, but it’s spacious enough. And best of all, it’s bright. Yes. There’s a TV near the entrance. It’s a bit bright, so I think I’ll lower the roller shades a little. This is what it looks like at night. Yes . There are two windows, one above and one below. This is what the room looks like from the entrance. Yes. It has a ryokan feel. I’m wearing a yukata. Let’s take a look at the bathroom. It’s also very clean. The green is nice . Let’s take a look at the shared spaces. The vending machine is located outside the corridor between the lobby building and the room building. There’s a large communal bath here… compact, but it’s not a hot spring, by the way. Yes. There’s also a coin laundry just in front of the bathroom. By the way, there are no alcohol vending machines in the hotel, so if you want to drink alcohol, it might be a good idea to buy some at a convenience store before arriving. The convenience store is about a 10-minute walk from the hotel, so I recommend buying some beforehand. Yes. I changed from my clothes into a yukata. I’d like to take a bath before dinner. Well, I’ll be off. The bathroom is quite small, more like a family bath. It can be a little awkward sharing a bath with other people, especially the women’s side, since it’s so small. However, there’s a shower room next to it, so if you’re concerned or want to wash thoroughly, you can use that. There was no one in the bathroom at the time of day, so I was able to relax. Yes. I’ve just come out of the bath. I’m going to go for dinner. Apparently, you can come any time between 6:00 and 8:30 PM (last order). There’s a sign that says, “Please bring your room key.” I arrived at the restaurant on the first floor. It seemed like you could choose your seating, so I chose a window seat. Yes. The beer has arrived. It’s burning hot, as you’d expect from a traditional inn. Let’s toast. Yes. The food has also arrived at this time. The staff at this inn are wonderful and very comfortable. It makes you feel like you’ve just returned home. Let’s start right away. Isn’t it pretty? They also served blanched spinach, so let’s eat. Yes. It has a mild flavor. This inn has received very positive reviews on travel sites, with everyone writing, “This is an inn I don’t want to tell anyone about.” It ‘s one of those inns I don’t really want to tell anyone about, either, but I’ll reveal it to you, the viewers of Midochare TV. By the way, I don’t think I mentioned it in the video yet, but the price for this one night stay with two meals was 8,300 yen. Isn’t that amazing? This dish was included. Yes. Next up, the salmon. The salmon sashimi was also fatty and melted in my mouth. And this beer glass was absolutely delicious. I wonder if I can convey how delicious the glass is. The part that you put your mouth against is incredibly thin, making the beer taste even better. It’s so delicate that you have to be extremely careful when washing it, which is quite a challenge. I thought the attention to detail was amazing. I also had my favorite chawanmushi. When the food was brought out, I was excited by the appearance of these rolls, so I started eating the sushi. Inside was some kind of negitoro, or maybe tuna flesh. It was so delicious. It really grabbed my stomach. It was so tasty I was shaking. Then I had the beef hotpot. The meat was still a little red, so I waited until it was cooked through before eating. Now it was time to eat. Since it was Fukaya, I thought I’d start with the vegetables, especially the leeks, but for some reason I started with the meat. Well , um… I’m a carnivorous girl, so… I am a carnivorous girl. Oh, in my private life, I’m not a carnivore. Normally. This is delicious. Okay, I’ll have the leeks. Is this Fukaya leeks? Well, I think it probably is. I’d be surprised if it wasn’t. The gentle sweetness of the leeks is irresistible. The leeks. The leeks were piping hot, fluffy, and melt-in-your-mouth delicious. And, as I love meat, I finished the beer before I knew it. It was delicious. Okay, I’ll have the hamburger. I’ll start with the vegetables, and then I’ll keep eating. Some people might be surprised to come here and suddenly see home-style food as the main course, but this hamburger was incredibly delicious. How can I put it? I thought this is what it means to be soothed. This is exactly what it feels like to fall in love with food. I’m in awe ♡ Yes. Anyway, while I was eating the hamburger, I felt like having it with rice, so I’ll have some rice too. Here, the rice and miso soup are self-service, so you go and get it yourself. Yes. It was clam miso soup. Yes, I brought it. Now, let’s eat. The clam broth is well-infused, and it seeps into my every fiber. Then I’ll eat the hamburger with the rice. I’m so happy. There aren’t many tourist spots around Fukaya Station, but if you have a car, you can get to a lot of them in just 10 or 15 minutes. Yeah. Without a car, you have to change trains and take detours, and it still takes almost an hour door-to-door, so I didn’t go to any particularly touristy places this time, but I still enjoyed just walking around town. I really want to be able to make hamburgers like that. They were a bit like my mom’s hamburgers, you know. Oh, maybe that’s why. But I recently made one. It was tofu hamburger. It was so delicious, I think I’ll try that recipe next time. I’ve been thinking lately that I might make a home video, maybe about once a month. The restaurant in the morning had soothing music playing, and the background music with the chirping of birds was really lovely. The already relaxing atmosphere was even more soothing. And, just like in the evening, rice and miso soup were self-service, with the rest brought to you. Here’s today’s breakfast. Mackerel simmered in miso. Tamagoyaki. Let’s eat. I started with a fresh salad. The birdsong background music became a favorite of mine, and I wanted to stay here for hours. It was the ideal Japanese breakfast. Plus, there were plenty of my favorite side dishes. I was so happy to be able to eat so much rolled omelet in the morning. And while miso-braised mackerel often tends to be tough and salty, this one was incredibly tender, with just the right amount of saltiness. I couldn’t stop eating rice . And the rolled omelet was absolutely delicious. The perfect amount of sweetness, the umami of the dashi stock, and the fluffy texture were exactly what I’d hoped for. This morning, I was filled with happiness and energy, and I feel like I’ll be feeling great again today. Thank you for the meal. Check-out was at 10:00. The smiles of the landlady and staff, along with the delicious food, made this inn so relaxing. Kinto has become one of my favorite inns. I’ll definitely visit again. And to conclude our trip to Fukaya City, we stopped off at Fukaya City Hall. When I heard that it was made of red bricks, the symbol of this town, I wanted to take a look.
