Ready for the best apple crisp recipe of all time? Start out with peeling your apples, slicing them up into cubes, or you could even do lengthwise if you would like. Spread some cinnamon, which my kids actually loved helping me make this cuz it was so easy. We even poured some lemon juice in just to take any of the bitterness out. Some vanilla extract. Don’t skip that part. That really does help add a lot of flavor. And then a little bit of water, which my my kids had a lot of fun spreading the water all over to give it that good moisture. We also sprinkled in some salt, some regular sugar and brown sugar of the masses. I’m talking dump the brown sugar in. All the ingredients and the instructions are down below in the description. And then of course, we poured in oats. You can really use any oats, even though it does recommend rolled oats usually, but we didn’t have those, so we just did old-fashioned, which worked out great. We put in some butter, some little um pieces of butter, spread that around, add some flour, which is about a cup. I kind of eyeballed it. Mix it up, cover, and bake, which again, I did not cover. My mistake for this video, but definitely cover. It’ll help everything stay inside and moist and simmer. And then add a little vanilla bean ice cream to the top. Don’t forget to make sure it’s vanilla bean because it’s the best and my kids loved it.

Ingredients:

Apples: 6 medium apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or a mix), peeled, cored, and sliced
All-Purpose Flour: 1 cup, plus 2 tablespoons (divided)
Rolled Oats: 3/4 cup
Brown Sugar: 3/4 cup, packed
Granulated Sugar: 1/4 cup
Butter: 1/2 cup (1 stick), cold and cubed
Cinnamon: 1 teaspoon
Nutmeg: 1/4 teaspoon
Lemon Juice: 1 tablespoon
Vanilla Extract: 1 teaspoon
Salt: 1/4 teaspoon
Water: 2 Tablespoons

Directions:

1. Prepare the Apples: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, 2 tablespoons of flour, lemon juice, vanilla extract, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Toss well to coat the apples evenly.

2. Make the Topping: In a separate bowl, combine the remaining 1 cup of flour, rolled oats, brown sugar, and cubed butter. Use a pastry blender or your fingers to cut the butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

3. Assemble the Crisp: Pour the apple mixture into an 8×8 inch baking dish or a 9-inch pie plate. Spread the oat topping evenly over the apples.

4. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender. If the topping starts to brown too quickly, cover the baking dish loosely with foil.

Cool and Serve: Let the apple crisp cool for at least 10-15 minutes before serving. This allows the filling to set slightly. Serve warm, with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.
