How To Make A Tasty Kale Chips Recipe In The Oven (SALTY AND CRUNCHY) | LiveLeanTV

So, you have a craving for salt. You have a craving for something crunchy. Potato chips? No. But I have an alternative for you. It’s crunchy. It’s salty. And it is a vegetable. Stick around. All right, guys. You are watching Live Lean TV. I am your host, Brad. We are making something salty, something crunchy, and it’s actually a vegetable. That’s right. We’re making kale chips. We’re going to take a vegetable and we’re going to make it delicious. We’re going to fill that salty, crunchy knee that you may have late at night. Let’s get to work. The first thing you want to do is preheat your oven at 350° F. We’re going to take our kale. We’re going to wash it off first. You’re going to dry it in one of those salad spinners. Then you’re going to take out the actual spine of the kale. So, you see this thick crunchy part? You don’t want to eat that. You want to cut that out with a pairing knife and then leave yourself with just the leaf of the kale. And you want to make each chip a small size, the same size as what a potato chip is. So something like that. You’re gonna take your baking sheet. You’re gonna line it with parchment paper or tin foil. Parchment paper may work better. And here’s an important tip. When you’re putting the kale onto the baking sheet, you don’t want to put it on top of one another. You want it on a single layer. That is very important. So we’re going to lay this out onto the sheet. Single layer. Okay. As you can see, we have one layer of kale on our baking sheet. Do not double it up. I can’t talk about that enough because if you double it up, the kale will not turn crispy. You won’t get that same texture as a potato chip. One single layer. And if you’re making it for more than one person, use two baking sheets. Single layer. Got it? So now all this leftover kale that we’re not using, we’re going to put it into Tupperware. We’re going to store it in the fridge and then we’ll bake it tomorrow night. It’s another serving. This stuff here will be composted. And now the final preparation. We want to put some olive oil over it. Don’t go too heavy on the olive oil. Not from a nutrition standpoint. Just if you put too much olive oil on there, it’s going to make them soggy. We want to make sure these come out crispy. So for a size about this here, you want maybe half a teaspoon to a teaspoon. So just drizzle. That should be good there. And now the sea salt. That right there is it. You could also put on a lot of other spices if you want. You can put lemon juice on there. You could put curry powder. You could put anything. You can put red pepper flakes to spice it up. Anything you want, add it to there. But I’m going to go very simple today. Just olive oil and sea salt. So, now this is going into the oven. It’s already preheated for 350° for 10 to 15 minutes, but watch it once you start to see the corners start to get crispy. You do not want to overcook it. So, make sure you keep your eye on it. 10 to 15 minutes. All right, 10 minutes is up. They’re looking good. They’re smelling good. Let’s see if they’re crispy. Up close shot. Open up your ears. Let’s see if you can hear the crispiness. You hear that? The saltiness. Damn, that’s good. So simple to make. Easy, simple ingredients, healthy ingredients. Give it a try yourself. Switch it up. Try different spices with it. You don’t have to follow what this recipe was, but follow the times. Follow that tip of the single layer and don’t use too much olive oil. Hopefully you like this video. Do you like salty foods? Do you have cravings for crunchy snacks? If you’re nodding your head right now, I’d say you also love potato chips.

Good news, I have a healthier potato chip alternative for you, that’s also:
– Salty
– Crunchy
– A vegetable

On today’s edition of Brad’s Cookbook, we are making a tasty kale chips recipe in the oven.

If you’ve never had kale chips before, I know it may not sound that appetizing, but kale chips are your new crunchy and salty fix. We are going to take this green leafy vegetable and make it into a delicious, healthy, and tasty recipe. These kale chips will also fill your salty and crunchy late night hunger cravings.

How to make a tasty kale chips recipe in the oven
Prep Time: 2 minutes
Cook Time: 10 minutes
Servings: 1

INGREDIENTS:
– 1/4 bunch kale
– 1-2 tsp extra virgin olive oil (or avocado oil)
– 1 dash Sea Salt

INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Pre-heat the oven to 350F.
2. Wash the kale, then dry it in a salad spinner or paper towel.
3. Remove the thick crunchy spine of the kale from the kale leaves with a paring knife. Cut each leaf of kale into a potato chip sized bite.
4. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or tin foil.
5. Place the kale on the baking sheet, in a single layer. Do not place the kale on top of each other. If you create a double layer of kale, the kale chips will not have the same crunchy texture as a potato chip. If you’re making more than 1-2 servings, use two baking sheets.

Note: to ensure the oil and salt evenly covers the kale chips, you can also mix the kale, olive oil, and salt together in a bowl, before adding to the baking sheet.

6. For a regular sized baking sheet, drizzle 1-2 tsp of olive oil on top of the kale. Do not use too much olive oil as it will make the kale chips soggy rather than crunchy.
7. Add some sea salt to the palm of your hand, then sprinkle over top of the kale.
8. You can also add other optional toppings including: lemon juice, curry powder, or red pepper flakes to really spice it up.
10. Once the oven is pre-heated to 350F, add the baking sheet to the oven, and bake for 10 minutes. Make sure you watch it bake very closely. Once you see the corners of the kale start to get crispy, remove it from the heat as you do not want to overcook it.
11. Take a bite to see if they’re crunchy. If you hear the crunch, your kale chips are done.

Recipe notes:
1. You don’t always have to stick to these basic ingredients. Switch it up by adding different spices to your kale chips.
2. Be sure to follow the baking instruction times, as well as the very important tip of always laying the kale on the baking sheet in a single layer.
3. If you’re concerned about heating the olive oil, you can also switch to a healthy higher heat oil, such as avocado oil. Just make sure you don’t use too much oil as it’ll make the kale chips soggy.

Not only is this kale chips recipe so simple to make, we also used easy, simple, and healthy ingredients. Trust me, you are going to love the salty and crunchy combo. Give this kale chips recipe a try for yourself.

  1. Thanks for the recipe Brad! I love kale chips! Have you tried the "cheesy" ones made with nutritional yeast and red bell pepper? Save your kale stems, juice them or put them on your green smoothies 🙂

  2. I LOVE kale chips! I always put the kale pieces in a big bowl, drizzle them with the olive oil, and then mix them with my hands so that they all get an even coating of oil 🙂 If you google "averie kale chips", she also has an awesome cheesy kale chip made with nutritional yeast, red bell peppers, and cashews that I think you'd love!

  3. For olive oil I use a Misto sprayer – you pour your EVOO into it and it mists the oil lightly so you get a light even coat 🙂

  4. i've never tried nutritional yeast but spoke about it in last week's #LLTV Q&A. i think I'll give it a try…and you can't go wrong with red pepper

  5. yes, my "how to make vegetables" video shows you how to make zucchini fries. i also have a lot of sweet potato vids as well. just search my channel
