[N5 – N4] 78-minute SIMPLE Japanese listening practice | Daily life of Japanese girl|

Hello, everyone. This is Kaneko. Today, I’d like to talk about what I did last week. Monday.
I woke up around 8 a.m. I didn’t use an alarm clock — I woke up naturally. I opened the curtains and looked outside. The sunny weather felt really nice. Sometimes, I could even hear birds chirping. After that, I washed my face and brushed my teeth. I combed my hair while looking in the mirror. Once I finished my morning routine, I had breakfast. I often ate bread, eggs, and milk. On days when I was really hungry, I sometimes made and ate rice balls. After breakfast, I cleaned my room. I made the bed, wiped off dust, and vacuumed. A clean room felt nice. Then I did the laundry and hung it out on the balcony to dry. Around 10 a.m., I took a short break. I watched TV or listened to my favorite music. Sometimes, I went to the supermarket with my mom. I enjoyed shopping too. We bought vegetables, meat, and fruit. I usually ate lunch alone. I made simple meals. For example, udon, ramen, or fried rice. Recently, I’ve enjoyed making vegetable soup. It’s healthy, warm, and delicious. In the afternoon, I read books or wrote in my diary. I read novels written in easy Japanese. Sometimes, I also watched Japanese anime. The characters were cute, and watching them made me excited. Around 3 p.m., I had a snack. I liked sweet things like cookies, cake, and manju (Japanese sweets). I relaxed with a cup of tea. In the evening, before it got dark, I took a short walk. I walked to a nearby park. Walking while looking at flowers lifted my spirits. When I got home, I took a shower. I washed my hair and cleaned my body — it felt refreshing. Then I changed into pajamas and helped prepare dinner. Dinner was around 6:30 p.m. I ate with my family. Talking about our day while eating was fun. The menu changed day to day, but we often had rice, fish, and miso soup. After dinner, I washed the dishes and wiped the table. I spent the rest of the evening watching TV and chatting with my family. At night, I looked at my phone a little. I checked my friends’ social media and read the news. But I tried not to use it too late at night. Around 10 p.m., I drank some tea, got into bed. I listened to gentle music, closed my eyes, and slowly fell asleep. Although my days were often the same, I enjoyed spending time at home. It was quiet and calming. That was my Monday. Tuesday.
I also spent Tuesday at home. But I spent it a little differently from Monday. On Tuesdays, I feel more relaxed and easygoing. I woke up at 7:30 a.m. this morning — a little earlier than usual. When I looked outside, it was raining. I could hear the quiet sound of the rain, and it made me feel very calm. I washed my face, brushed my teeth, and combed my hair. For breakfast, I had warm rice and miso soup. On rainy days, warm food tastes especially good. I also had a Japanese-style omelet that my mom made. It was very delicious. After eating, I cleaned my room. Since it was raining, I didn’t go out onto the balcony. Instead, I organized my closet. I gathered clothes I no longer needed and put them into a paper bag. Around 10 a.m., I watched a bit of TV. I checked the news and learned about the weather and topics of the day. After that, I took my time reading a book. Today, I read a Japanese novel for children. It had few kanji, so it was easy to read. For lunch, I made pasta using ingredients I had at home. I put cheese on top of tomato sauce — it was simple but turned out delicious. Eating alone while listening to music isn’t so bad, I think. In the afternoon, I didn’t go outside because of the rain. Instead, I looked at photos on my phone and used an app to draw illustrations. Drawing with the app was fun, and time passed quickly. Around 3 p.m., I had hot tea and biscuits. I set the snacks on a small table, and it felt like being in a café. On rainy days, snacks somehow feel more special. In the evening, I did some yoga to move my body a little. I followed a video on the internet and slowly stretched. My body felt lighter, and my mind felt refreshed. For dinner, we had curry rice. My mom had made a big batch last night, so today we just had to warm it up. The curry had carrots, potatoes, onions, and meat — it had a gentle, comforting flavor. After dinner, I watched a drama with my family. The one we’re watching now is about a family. I like heartwarming and gentle stories like that. At night, I wrote in my diary and checked the weather for tomorrow on my phone. The rain would stop by tonight, and tomorrow would be sunny. Feeling happy, I went to bed at 10 p.m. Tuesday was a quiet but enjoyable day, even though it rained. Wednesday
Today was a beautiful day from the morning, and it felt really pleasant. Seeing the blue sky and bright sunlight gave me energy. I woke up around 8 a.m. I opened the curtains and stretched big under the sunlight. Then, as usual, I washed my face, brushed my teeth, and combed my hair. For breakfast, I had toast, a boiled egg, and hot milk. I spread butter on the toast and added a little honey. It was sweet and very delicious. After breakfast, I did the laundry. Since the weather was nice today, I also washed the sheets and towels. I went out onto the balcony and hung everything out neatly. The breeze felt so nice that I stopped for a moment to enjoy being outside. In the morning, I went to a nearby supermarket with my mom. Every Wednesday is “special sale day,” so many things are cheaper. We bought a lot — vegetables, fruits, meat, bread, and more. After shopping, we had soft-serve ice cream in front of the store. When we got home, I put the groceries into the fridge and got lunch ready. Today’s lunch was yakisoba. I stir-fried cabbage, carrots, bean sprouts, and pork in a frying pan. Homemade yakisoba really is the best. In the afternoon, I took a short nap. After a full stomach and with the warm sunlight, I started feeling sleepy. I dozed off a little while sitting on the sofa. After waking up, I reviewed English vocabulary in my notebook. I write down new words and look at them many times later. Doing this makes it easier to remember. Around 3:30, I had a banana and some crackers for a snack. I made some tea and relaxed while listening to soft music. After that, I did a bit of stretching and watched some videos on YouTube. In the video, someone was talking about their trip, and it made me want to travel too someday. I’d like to visit places like Kyoto or Hokkaido. For dinner, we had grilled salted salmon, rice, miso soup, and pickles. The salmon my mom makes is always fluffy and delicious. Eating with my family is a quiet and warm time. After dinner, I washed the dishes and tidied up the room a little. Then I wrote in my diary and made a note of things I want to do tomorrow.
I went to bed at 10 p.m. Wednesday was a relaxing day — with shopping, cooking, and a nap, both my mind and body felt refreshed. Thursday.
I was feeling a little tired, so I got up slowly this morning. I woke up around 9 a.m. and stayed in bed for a while, just relaxing. The sky was cloudy outside, but it wasn’t raining. After washing my face and brushing my teeth, I made breakfast. Today’s breakfast was white rice, a Japanese-style omelet, seaweed, and tea. It was very delicious. After breakfast, I sat around for a while and then decided to write a letter. I sometimes write letters to my friends. Messages on my phone are nice too, but I feel like writing by hand expresses my feelings more clearly. Today, I wrote to a friend from junior high school who lives far away. After writing the letter, I walked to the mailbox to send it. It turned into a short walk, and I felt refreshed. On the way back, I passed by a small flower shop. There were cute sunflowers lined up, and I couldn’t help but stop and admire them. For lunch, I made rice balls using ingredients I had in the fridge. I made two kinds: plum and salmon. When I scooped the rice into a bowl and shaped it with my hands, it was still warm, and it made me feel calm and gentle. In the afternoon, I practiced the piano. I learned a little piano as a child. Now, I sometimes play easy songs on the piano we have at home. After that, I tidied up the bookshelf. There were a lot of books, and a bit of dust had gathered, so I wiped it clean. I also found some old manga and ended up reading them — time passed quickly. For my 3 o’clock snack, I made pancakes. I used pancake mix and cooked them in a frying pan. They turned out well, and I ate them with honey on top. They were so fluffy, and I felt really happy. In the evening, I did a bit of stretching to loosen up my body. Moving my body helped me feel more energized. After that, I helped prepare dinner. Today’s dinner was oyakodon (a rice bowl with chicken and egg). The balance between the chicken and egg was just right, and no matter how many times I eat it, I never get tired of it. At night, I watched a variety show on TV. Lots of different people appeared, and I laughed a lot. After that, I took a bath to warm up my body and changed into my pajamas. Before going to bed, I wrote a short diary entry and thought about what I want to do tomorrow. Thursday was a slow-paced day where I was able to value and enjoy my personal time. Friday.
As the end of the week approaches, I feel a little more relaxed. The weather was sunny with occasional clouds — it was a very comfortable day. I woke up a little after 8 a.m. When I opened the curtains, sunlight came in, and it was a refreshing morning. I washed my face, combed my hair, and changed from my pajamas into regular clothes. For breakfast, I had toast, a banana, and coffee. I usually drink milk, but today I felt like switching things up and had coffee instead. It was bitter, but the smell was nice, and it made me feel like an adult. After breakfast, I did a bit of cleaning. I swept the floor and wiped the top of the table. It may be a small thing, but when the room is clean, my heart feels happier too. Around 10 a.m., I watched some videos on my phone. Today, I watched a video about baking bread — it looked really delicious. Someday, I want to try making it myself. For lunch, I had leftover oyakodon from last night’s dinner. It was easy because I just had to warm it up. The eggs were fluffy, and it was delicious. In the afternoon, I studied Japanese a little. I learned five new kanji and wrote them down in my notebook. I practiced writing them over and over while saying them aloud so I wouldn’t forget their meanings or readings. Around 2:30 p.m., I poured some juice into a glass and went out onto the balcony. Today, the breeze was cool and pleasant. I spent some quiet time looking at the sky and listening to birds chirping. For my 3 o’clock snack, I had pudding. It was something I had bought from the supermarket — cold, smooth, and very delicious. Eating something sweet made me feel happy. In the evening, I did my weekly laundry. I washed my favorite shirts and skirts and hung them outside. I like watching the clean clothes sway in the wind. Dinner was vegetable soup and bread. Today’s soup had onions, carrots, cabbage, and potatoes. I made it together with my mom, and it became a warm and cozy time. After dinner, I watched TV, took a bath, and spent the evening relaxing. On Friday nights, just knowing that the weekend is coming makes me feel more at ease. Before going to bed, I listened to a bit of my favorite music and wrote in my diary. I think Friday is an important day to relax and recover from the week’s fatigue. Saturday.
Saturday is a day to spend more leisurely compared to weekdays. I woke up a little later than usual, around 9 a.m. When I opened the curtains, the blue sky and soft light filled the room, lifting my spirits. First, I washed my face, brushed my teeth, and did some light stretching to loosen up my body. For breakfast, I had homemade rice balls and warm miso soup. The rice balls were the usual salty flavor, but today I added tuna and pickled plum inside, enjoying a bit of a different taste. After breakfast, I did house chores like tidying up the room, doing laundry, and sweeping the floor. On Saturdays, I spend more time than usual cleaning, so the house becomes spotless. Opening the windows and feeling the outside breeze while cleaning makes my mind feel refreshed too. Around 11 a.m., I checked today’s schedule on my computer and contacted my friends. I chatted with one of them on the phone, and we made plans to watch a movie online together soon. Talking with friends is one of the pleasures of the weekend. For lunch, I made curry rice by myself. It was full of vegetables and meat, and the simmered roux matched perfectly. Cooking slowly in a pot is a little luxury that fits well with Saturdays. In the afternoon, I spent time doing things I enjoy. First, I read a new novel in a cozy reading corner in my room. As I turned the pages and occasionally looked out the window, I could feel the changing of the seasons, which was very calming. After that, I watched a few videos on my phone and drew some illustrations, enjoying a creative time. In the evening, I sat in front of my computer to watch a movie online with my friend. The movie was a relaxing drama, with both funny and touching moments. While exchanging thoughts with my friend in the chat, I immersed myself in the story. Dinner was rice, grilled fish, and simmered vegetables, prepared by my mom. Sitting around the table with my family and having warm conversations melted away all the week’s fatigue. After dinner, I washed the dishes and cleaned the kitchen. Before going to bed, I wrote in my diary about the day’s events and how I felt. Saturday is a valuable day where I can spend time slowly with my family and friends and enjoy my hobbies. It was a fulfilling day for both mind and body, and a time to recharge my energy for the coming week. Sunday.
Sunday is the most relaxing day of the week. I didn’t set an alarm and naturally woke up around 9:30 a.m. When I opened the curtains, it was sunny outside. The light was bright and made me feel refreshed. For breakfast, I had toast, a boiled egg, and a warm cup of tea, which I enjoyed slowly. I turned on the TV and watched the Sunday news program while checking the weather and current events. After breakfast, I did a bit of Sunday cleaning. I moved at a slower pace than usual, wiping dust and cleaning the shelves while listening to music. Being able to do chores without worrying about time is something special about Sundays. Around 11 a.m., I went for a short walk near the house. Flowers were blooming, and a gentle breeze was blowing. I sat on a bench in the park, looked at the sky for a while, and watched people passing by. It was a quiet, calming time. For lunch, I made spaghetti with my mom. We added cheese to a simple tomato sauce, and it turned out very delicious. Cooking with my mom is also one of the joys of Sunday. In the afternoon, I looked through my photo album and reminisced by viewing pictures from my childhood. At 3 p.m., I had donuts and milk tea for a snack. I relaxed while listening to my favorite music and enjoying the sweets. Time passed slowly, and it turned into a very gentle, peaceful afternoon. In the evening, I wrote down a few plans for tomorrow in my notebook. Dinner was omurice and salad. My name was written on the omurice with ketchup, which made me laugh. Sharing dinner with my family and saying “It’s delicious!” together feels like one of life’s everyday happinesses. At night, I warmed up in the bath and then got into bed. Lying in my futon, I thought back on the day and gently drifted to sleep around 10 p.m., feeling peaceful and content.
