“The Familiar and the New” TOTTORI COFFEE. A colleague who visited Tottori bought this as a gift. I want to go too… I want to make a pilgrimage to Ueda Shoji… I pour hot water into a coffee kettle. Hand drip coffee requires pouring water slowly, little by little, so a coffee kettle is a must. A blend of Brazilian and Tanzanian coffee. I’ve never tried this coffee before, but… A gift from a colleague, expanding and remodeling my coffee world. I always have my favorites and favorites, so I don’t often try new coffees. Someone once said that as you get older, your preferences become clearer, yet also more limited. (The world population is 8.2 billion.) Still, I need to keep trying, finding my favorites, and creating routines. A new flavor. It tastes like a tropical fruit, like mango. Maybe it’ll be okay? After showering, I clean up. Then I tidy up my messy desk. I put the pencils and pens that were scattered around in a drawer. An aroma stone given to me by Tingting Mom. It’s been a while since I’ve seen a clean room. After a quick stop at the coin laundry, I’m heading to the supermarket. It’s La France. I should buy some cheap green onions. If I had buckwheat flour, I’d make a galette, but they’re not on sale. (Looking at snacks) Biscoff + Biscoff cream. I really need to buy this. I don’t think I can make a galette without buckwheat flour. For now, I’m going to retreat home. I’ll try making the blini I ate 10 times during my trip to Moscow. It’s been eight months since I bought it, and I’m finally starting to use the butter pan. First, I’ll melt the butter I’ll use to make the blini dough. I recently saw a photo album with a Russian setting at a bookstore.

Galette Alternative Meeting → Russian Photo Album → My Russian Trip → Blinis? The input from the Russian photo album I saw at the bookstore was the output of blini. I’ll mix it up. I sense something odd. I crush the granules with a rubber spatula. Melt the butter in a frying pan and fry the thin batter. It seems too thin. I need to quickly flip it before it burns. Oh, it’s hot. -wow.. hot. -wow.. I’m in trouble. I need to quickly flip it, but it’s so hot I can’t. It ‘s so hot.. The taste of frustration. Gyoza? Tortilla? LOL One done. For the second batch, I’ll make white blinis. For those who live in a blini culture.. please tell me how to properly fry blinis. It’s not yet done, but it thinks it’s done. I’m going to make a topping to go with the blinis. Thanks to kiot for the genius idea of making banana candy in the comments. First, slice the bananas diagonally. Cornstarch. Place the bananas on a tray and coat them evenly with cornstarch. Time to fry them in oil. I can’t really imagine what it’ll taste like yet. The cornstarch coating tends to stick together, so you have to keep removing them. But it’s easy to break, so stir gently. – This will be delicious… – First frying complete. – Let it cool slightly and fry it again. If you fry it once more, it will become even crispier. Lafrancs with the flavor of pear + floral aroma + ripe peach. For the pickling syrup, add enough water to submerge the lafrancs. Then add plenty of sugar. White wine. If you make it with red wine, it will turn red. Lemon juice. I’ll add a few cloves , which I like. I think it will taste much better if you add flavor with cloves. Once the sugar has completely dissolved, add the lafrancs and boil over medium heat. It’s only half submerged. I’ll turn it over and boil it. After steeping the chamomile tea bag, add the sugar to make syrup. Then add the fried bananas. – Sweet potato candy… banana candy. It’s really delicious. It’s my favorite texture. It’s less burdensome than sweet potatoes or pumpkins, so I think I could eat it endlessly. Blinis with clotted cream and raspberry jam. Undercooked. Like cookies. I’m thinking of putting these in the fridge for about half a day to mature. But… frustrated with the wrap. What’s wrong with this? – This is weird. I want to tear it to pieces… – Oh, that’s enough. Settled in the fridge. I’ll keep the remaining La France syrup in a container. It would be delicious with French toast. Secondary sugar with Biscoff. Early one morning. – Where are you going? – (Next door lady) What’s wrong? – (Unheard) Where are you going? – Didn’t you just go out? – Oh, right. I just got out. – That laundry… – I forgot to pick it up yesterday. Last night… – Oh my. – Be careful~ – Have a good night. I dried my clothes at the coin laundry last night, came home, and took a nap. When I woke up, it was already closing time. So, I’m going to do my laundry early this morning. I’m going out. I’ll show you what I’ve been using in place of perfume lately. I’ve been using Diptyque’s Eau de Parfum (Philosykos) for a long time, but lately, the alcohol-like scent of perfume has been a bit overwhelming. So, I switched to a topical perfume. I might end up wanting to use perfume again, but for now, I like this one. I rub it on my neck and wrists. (Crack) The only downside is that it makes the sound of my mom’s cosmetic cap when I close it. And Le Labo’s hand cream has a strong cypress scent. These two scents are what I’ve been wearing lately. I’ll get there a little early and browse the dishes. There are so many ceramics I want in the world. They’re cute. I came a little early because I was worried I wouldn’t be able to buy popcorn . I’m a sugar aesthetic addict, so I only eat caramel-covered popcorn. This is the movie I’m watching today: the second installment of Evangelion on January 1st. The movie hasn’t even started, and the popcorn is almost gone. I’ll pull back the curtains and get ready to watch. A masterpiece is always fun to watch. My eyes were so dry, I had a hard time watching the movie. The Laprance wine stew I made during the day. The syrup soaked into the Laprance. It was really delicious. It was soft even if I just ate it, but the texture was much more like butter. I should have put it in a large pot and mass-produced it. It tastes like cold butter melting in your mouth. What a shame. Why did I only make one? Busy footsteps heading somewhere. Packing up my bags, I headed to the filming studio. The day of the CHNEIDER archive shoot. I’m getting ready for the shoot while ironing my clothes with a steam iron. -Okay! I’m tired because I started working so early in the morning… It’s past 2:30. I feel good because the shoot went well, but I’m so hungry I think I’m going to starve. -I want to eat rice. I wandered around Shinjuku and couldn’t find a restaurant, so I came to GOEMON. I used to eat there often when I was a student. It’s been a really long time since I’ve been here. My favorite dish at GOEMON is Popeye Spaghetti. I like it because it’s a simple dish that brings out the Japanese flavor with soy sauce and butter. -What’s the most popular dish? -Huh? Popeye is the best, (according to my taste buds) It’s obviously Popeye, right? Oh…but I haven’t tried any of the other dishes. (I always had Carbonara/Popeye Spaghetti.) I only drink my favorite coffee, watch my favorite movies over and over, and order my favorite spaghetti. It’s not written down what’s the most popular dish. But Popeye would be the best? The same old cold Viennese coffee from Renoir. Late at night, I’m craving French toast. My mom used to make French toast for breakfast a lot. She had a bowl she cherished. In that bowl, she’d *roughly* beat an egg, *roughly* dip bread in the egg mixture, and fry it in margarine. But the egg didn’t break well, so it was sometimes white and sometimes yellow. Cut that egg bread into quarters with scissors, sprinkle generously with white sugar, and you’ve got “Genie Toast.” I don’t know why, but that toast suddenly came to mind in the middle of the night. Was the heat too strong? Chemical , Biological, and Radiological Warfare training camp. Let’s not choke before eating French toast. (Flapping wings) Ah… I can’t see very well. – This looks delicious. But… with thick clotted cream. Heavy snow warning. In search of the meaning of a strainer, I’ll go 30,000 miles. -I have some syrup I made a while ago. -Huh? It’s not cooked? -It’s not cooked at all, inside? When I cut it, the egg liquid ran out. Then what was all that smoke? The back is pretty good.. I wonder what happened to this one? This one is cooked well. + * Success * + Well-done barbecue. It’s heaven with La France syrup. Heaven. I came for coffee. Buttered toast. And Viennese coffee. I opened the jewelry box. Emptying out the jewelry. Organizing notes. I usually write a lot of notes on post-its, and when the post-its pile up, I organize them in the notebook and write new ones, or just stick them on and organize the notes. I eat too much flour these days. Is this okay? After I finish my work, I’ll go hunt for a restaurant. I want to eat dumplings. -Excuse me..You’re not open yet, are you? -(Myeongmul Mama) Huh? -You’re not open yet, are you? -(Myeongmul Mama)Alone? -Yes, just one person. -(Myungmul Mama) What would you like to have? – Those dumplings… -(Myungmul Mama) Come in and wait. – Is it okay if I come in? I was so hungry, but luckily you let me in. -(Myungmul Mama) Sit down for a moment. -(Myungmul Mama) We were still preparing. -(Myungmul Mama) Sorry, I’ve never poured a beer before. I’m sorry. – Thank you. He asked me what I wanted to drink, so I ordered draft beer in a panic. I thought it was just a regular dumpling place, but it was an izakaya frequented by regulars. Ah… refreshing. I wasn’t planning on drinking. -(Myungmul Mama) Are you going to have dumplings? – Yes. -(Myungmul Mama) Our menu… – (Myungmul Mama) Today’s menu is… -(Myungmul Mama) Do you have nikomi (simmered food) today? -(Myungmul Mama) Do you want nikomi? – Yes. I accidentally ordered nikomi. I wasn’t planning on getting nikomi. -(Myungmul Mama) Goya simple is our original menu. -(Myungmul Mama) Of course, if you like goya. -Oh, then give me that too. -(Myungmul Mama) Add a goya simple too. I accidentally ordered… I wasn’t planning on getting goya simple. (I don’t know what it is) They gave me the menu, but I already ordered everything you recommended. I was going to just have some gyoza and go home, but I ended up having a drinking party by myself. It was chilly outside, but my body is melting. This is what I wanted to eat. -(Myungmul Mama) There’s a customer next to you right now. He’s talking to the person who works here. -(Myungmul Mama) A boy, a handsome one. -(Myungmul Mama) Oh, it’s a boy. -(Myungmul Mama) Oh, I came alone. – I’m Korean. -(Myungmul Mama) Huh? – I’m Korean. -(Myungmul Mama) Are you Korean? -(Myungmul Mama) Really? That’s why you’re pretty. When you tell Myungmul Mama, everyone says nice things about you. -(Myungmul Mama) Korean people are pretty, aren’t they? -(Myungmul Mama) Then just for a moment, where are you staying at the hotel? – Oh, uh… I live here. – I studied here and I work here now. -(Myungmul Mama) Oh, I see. That’s amazing. The walls inside the restaurant are covered with autographs of Japanese celebrities. One of the regulars is saying that she really likes this menu and was even featured in a magazine. -(Myungmul Mama) We have a customer from Korea… She’s on the phone with another person… She’s describing me. She’s going to introduce me to everyone Myungmul Mama talks to in the future. I’m so embarrassed. -(Myungmul Mama) Are you curious? -(Myungmul Mama) Should I transfer the phone? A phone? ..Me? Suddenly, the pores on my body open up. On the phone… – Since when have you been here? – (Myeongmul Mama) Let’s see… 24 years? – Wow~ I didn’t plan on drinking today… This is a deviation. I drank beer on an empty stomach, and I’m getting tipsy and in a good mood and stuff… It suddenly came to mind. When I was young, a loner. I had small deviations in high school… I put my phone in the drawer and went to Myeongdong to buy some honey and eat some kkultara, and went to Hongdae Krispy Kreme to get some free donuts… Do you guys have any deviations in your student days? Not big ones, but small ones. My third glass of beer. She gave me edamame as a gift. – (Myeongmul Mama) Take care. – It was delicious. – (Myeongmul Mama) You’re tall. (Not at all.) – Haha… Thank you. I was planning to eat dumplings and go home to work, but I drank four glasses of beer by myself. On a chilly, windy day. I have a business trip to Omotesando, but I came a little early to check out the pottery. Madu, my regular stop. This teacup is really pretty. This pot is really cute, too. Patrol complete. But there’s one more place. I’ll go quickly. Photography isn’t allowed here, so I quickly looked around and bought something small. I’ll show you the small items I bought later. – I used that cafe… – The cafe is not open regularly. – It’s only open about once a month now… I want coffee… Too bad. I guess I’ll just have to get some from the vending machine. Late lunch. My favorite McDonald’s menu item, the shrimp burger. The shrimp burger at McDonald’s in Japan is so delicious because it’s full of shrimp. So whenever I go to McDonald’s, I always eat this. And my drink is always warm coffee. I love the combination of burger and coffee. – Some miscellaneous goods I recently bought… – Some small miscellaneous goods, I’ll show you some of them. I bought four of these. This is a pufferfish-shaped felt doll. I bought it at a craft store called “Yuzawaya.” It’s a store that sells school supplies and fabrics. This pufferfish doll is used to hold silk pins. It’s handmade in Peru. It’s so cute. The colors are my favorite dusty green and ivory. I’ll wear it until I’m a grandfather. Next up is the hourglass. It’s filled with black sand. The package says it’s for 3 minutes, but I measured it and it was 3 minutes and 2 seconds. I bought it to use for cooking, but it doesn’t sound an alarm when the sand runs out after 3 minutes… I’m just going to leave it in the hallway as an ornament. This is a ceramic spoon rest from a pottery store. I really liked the shape and texture, so I bought it. The last runner is a wooden plate. It has a rough surface. I’m not sure how useful this is, but I think it would be nice to use it as an ornament. Haha, it’s cute… Yes, then… I’m done looking at my purchases. One evening. I came to see the Evangelion exhibition. It was my first time at an animation exhibition, and I was impressed by the original drawings. A hamburger with an Apostle sticker on it. The taste was like slavery, but the price was noble. I came to Times for a CHNEIDER meeting and breakfast. Today, I’m planning to eat breakfast, buy Schneider materials, and then go see the Kim Jun-ki exhibition. Toast and boiled eggs (and potato salad). My busy second half of 2025. The last big event of the year, the CHNEIDER exhibition. We usually hold an exhibition in December to wrap up the year, but this time, we’re going to skip the year and hold the exhibition in January. From January 22nd to February 7th. It’s much longer than usual. While busy preparing for CHNEIDER, Kim Jun-ki didn’t miss his personal work. The two of us do everything at CHNEIDER: fabric purchasing, processing, patterns, sewing, planning, and photography. But I respect Kim Jun-ki, the genius who’s so talented and diligent that he even does solo projects like this. Always… A two-person show, H-chan’s work with Kim Jun-ki. Finished my schedule and arrived home. I went grocery shopping on the way home. I saw they were selling cabbages cheap, so I bought some. I’m going to make cabbage soybean paste stew. It’s only 1/4 of a head, but it’s a lot… With this much, I could make two more. Let’s add some white radish. For a soft texture, peel it. Slice it into thin strips. Slice the sweet pumpkin into the same size as the radish. Rice water. I’ll also add some sliced onions. Two onions. Add the sliced onions to the boiling water first. For the meat, I bought tender and juicy chicken thighs. Consommé cubes. Two. Once it starts boiling, add the sweet pumpkin. Season with shiro miso. Lastly, add a large amount of cabbage. Cucumber for acne removal. Cut the cucumber into bite-size pieces, cut into accordion-like slices. Season with plum paste from Muji. The plum paste has a strong salty and sour flavor. It pairs perfectly with the crunchy cucumber. Adding some minced garlic makes it even tastier. Crushed black sesame seeds complete the dish. Bonito tataki. I’m thinking of putting the iron-rich bonito tataki on top of rice and eating it as a donburi. My miso soup… I boiled it for so long that the pumpkin and radish melted… My miso soup tastes like pumpkin soup. Arrange the bonito on top of the rice. Place the wasabi in the middle. Pour in the dried pollack, and your katsuo ochazuke is complete. The cabbage is sweet. I need to summon the housewives. I watch “Desperate Housewives” on repeat every day. Is there anyone who enjoys watching their favorite movies and dramas over and over again? Even back then, I’d eat my favorite foods for days in a row, frequent my favorite restaurants, and watch my favorite dramas and movies over and over again. But as I get older, I feel like it’s only getting worse. So, I intentionally go see exhibitions of genres and styles I don’t normally see, and I deliberately try more unfamiliar foods . That’s how I live, striking a balance between the familiar and the new. It’s a lifelong pursuit of finding what I love in the new and transforming it into familiarity. Nurungji is delicious~ How do you all balance your lives? Everyone, be careful not to catch a cold… (not a cold)

  18. as another year come to close and a new year dawns I want to thank people who have surrounded me with love and support and kindness… we might not know each other but your vlogs have been meaningful part of my life, and I want to thank you and wish you a year filled with abundance and beautiful moments with your loved ones!
    thank you and happy 2026!
