Tofu or Chicken & Waffle Nuggets Recipe – Finding Nemo Inspired!

dishing onov what are we doing dishing on movies welcome back everybody to another episode of dishing on movies this week we are going to be talking about Finding Nemo love that movie whales don’t eat clownish they eat Krill swim away oh look Grill yeah so we thought it’d be fun to do a little goldfish inspired recipe exactly fish are friends so we’re not eating fish we’re eating tofu and chicken today making nuggets yeah I think it’ll be cool so we’re going to do kind of a double recipe today we’re going to be making a Savory kind of a tofu Faux Chicken Nugget essentially big flavor but no meat and then we’re going to be doing a kind of a chicken and waffle nugget kind of an experiment but I think we may have something special here yeah hopefully it’ll turn out good and if not we’ll let you know that too Goldfish made graham cracker ah I guess it’s a new thing it says new on the bag so I’m presuming it must be new it ain’t happened too long all right so we’re going to go ahead and get right into it let’s do it soy milk salt an egg cheesy goldfish tofu spice mix and mustard for the Sweet Chicken and Waffles nuggets you’re going to need graham cracker goldfish an egg soy milk vanilla extract cinnamon and a chicken breast po inside my mouth if you want to live even though fish are friends we’re going to pour these bad boys into these bags and smash them to pieces this is going to essentially serve as our bread you can crunch it with your hands or you know we can use our water fish live in water right they live in water and die by its hand this is why I wore this shark shirt and would be killing some Goldfish today all right so go ahead and put in our first step of our dreading station we just added two pinches of salt to that gram cracker mixture you hear that they’re making a Finding Nemo too no I didn’t I thought I’d never hear any of the movie news I’m always saying no I haven’t heard Finding Nemo Finding Nemo Finding Nemo Finding Nemo Finding Nemo n n already said a couple people are coming back Ellen will be back oh she’s coming back awesome I mean Dory the movie it’s true I did oh no you think that’s Crush enough yeah excuse me getd here’s what we’re going to do we’re going to take your fork and we’re going to go ahead and just beat that egg we’re just beating up everything today you got a problem buddy huh huh do you do you do you now we’re going to add uh our milk we’re using a soy milk for both but you could use almond or or cow’s milk and for me I’m going to add a little bit of of vanilla extract to my batter and I’m going to add just two pinches of cinnamon cuz I think it will add a little kind of French toastiness you know to it nice so we’re going to make a paste so go ahead and combine the spices with that mustard all right and now you can just go and stir that up to that I’m just going to add a little bit of this egg mixture you wanted to make this full out vegan though could you use something besides egg you would just skip the egg and use the swim on to moisture in it so still be sticky a little bit anyway exactly want to use an extra firm tofu all right they’re soft medium silken that you want to use firm the firmer it is the more meaty it is and again we’re making a meat dish so that’s why when you have a meat a foam meat like this you really want to press out a lot of the liquid because you take out the liquid and you replace it with better liquids that are flavorings oh okay so here we’re going to do I’m going to slowly walk this to the sink just keep walking just keep walk talk hey Mr Grumpy gills I’m going to cut these into like nuggets it’s pretty important to flavor the tofu cuz I’ve had some unflavored tofu before and it’s just like it really has no flavor it really is nothing but that’s why it’s such a good thing to cook with cuz you can just make it be whatever you want exactly I want to touch it in order to get flavor into the sponge you got to take some of this moisture out we have it on paper towels to drain we’re going to put another paper towel on top and put a weight like a pan or something on top of it let’s do this about an hour it will help it uh drain now we’re going to get to dipping our nuggets so dip dip first we’re going to dip it in our egg wash get it nice and wet then we’re going to take our salt and spice mix and just kind of brush it then we’re going to get it into our cheese now we’re going to do it a second time dip dip all right now that that’s nice and cheesily coated look much better for you it’s only pretty simple we’re going to do chicken you have an excellent idea since this is a like a chicken and waffle it’s add maple syrup so let’s do that dip it in the egg so dip dip you’ll go ahead and just drop that on your baking sheet at Disneyland Paris that is based on Finding Nemo and you actually ride on the back of his turtle shell it’s like a roller coaster and you spin around in different directions you mean the swirling Vortex of Terror that’s it dude of course it is ready to put our little friends here into the oven it’s at 375 we’re doing the chicken first just cuz it’s going to take longer to cook everybody hold on so the chicken nuggets have been in the oven for about 20 minutes and the tofu have been there about 12 so they’re ready to come on out the oven there’s our tofu there is our chicken I’m having fish tonight chicken and waffled uh and we’ve got our kind of our our cheesy tofu now the thing of it is these are going to have a nice crisp on it crunch but we didn’t fry them we baked them so we saved a lot of fat a lot of calories and we’re going to miss none of the kind of the crunch effects of a good nugget sorry grease sorry for you I’m going to go with the tofu first I’m go on chicken all right here it is m m good mhm it is like so waffle this is some kind of practical joke it’s not funny and I know funny I’m a clown fish swim on over to that subscribe button and we’ll see you next Tofu Nuggets:
(makes approx. 12 nuggets)
Ingredients:
1 block extra-firm tofu, pressed
1/3 cup soy milk
1 egg, whisked
2 tbsp mustard
spices (use whatever spices you like!)
1 tbsp garlic powder
1 tbsp onion salt
2 tsp chili powder
1 tsp black pepper
1 tsp salt
2 cups of cheese whole grain goldfish, crushed into dust
Preparation For Tofu:
Drain Tofu.
Cut tofu into desired nugget sizes, and wrap slices in paper towels to drain excess liquid. Place a plate or pot on top to “press” liquid out of tofu. Set aside at least 1 hour, up to 8 hours.
Whisk together milk and egg.
Combine mustard and spices. Add 1 tbsp of the egg mixture.
Brush the spice mixture onto the tofu, then dip into the milk mixture.
Next, coast tofu in the goldfish coating.
Next, dip the tofu back into the milk mixture.
finally, dip the tofu back into the goldfish coating.
Lay on baking sheet (lined with parchment) and bake at 375 for 12 minutes, turning over ½ way through baking.
Chicken and Waffles Nuggets
(makes approx. 10-12 nuggets)
1 chicken breast
1/3 cup soy milk
1 egg, whisked
1 tbsp maple syrup
½ tsp cinnamon
2 cups of graham cracker whole grain goldfish (preferably French toast flavored), crushed into dust
Preparation For Chicken
Cut chicken into desired nugget sizes and pat dry.
Whisk together milk and egg. Add maple syrup and cinnamon.
Dip chicken into the egg mixture.
Next, roll the chicken into the crushed goldfish mixture.
Lay on baking sheet (lined with parchment) and bake at 375 for 20 minutes
