Pie Contest – VLOGTOBER 2022 Day 10

[Music] foreign good morning we just finished breakfast and now I have my pumpkin puree which is actually butternut squash and my eggs sitting out I am Gathering my ingredients to make pumpkin pie we are going to a Pie Contest today and I’m excited to go I’m excited to eat this because it’s delicious I’m probably not gonna film the whole thing because I literally did an entire video dedicated to how I make my pumpkin pie and this is not mine per se this is how my parents always made it I’m actually not even sure where the original recipe came from but it is a nut crust so it’s chopped nuts I usually do pecans or mix of pecans and walnuts and then that is the crust and then this is the filling it’s phenomenal it is the best pumpkin pie I never even used to like pumpkin pie but this is just the way I prefer it and it bakes at 450 for eight minutes then you drop it down to 325 for another another 40 to 45 so I’m going to go ahead and put this together again I’m not going to film the whole thing because I did that I don’t know if you’re interested you can go and watch that video I do have some clothes that I ground last fall actually that I saved because I had to grind these you know by hand basically and then some whole cardamom this is like the secret to it is the whole spices that you grind yourself that just really give it that extra kick so I’m gonna go ahead and get this in the oven over there well I severely overestimated how much of this I needed so I’m gonna have to turn this into something I’m thinking like butternut squash and sausage kind of soup or something I don’t know that sounds delicious also watching Caroline Winkler today Saturday she usually uploads on Saturdays and do you guys remember when I mentioned her I don’t know how long ago maybe like six months ago and her Channel totally exploded and it is very well deserved all right pie is done and I had a little bit of filling left so I’m just I just baked it in like a little glass dish it’ll kind of be like a pumpkin custard I guess I didn’t want to waste the filling it’s so good I took a shower while that was baking and obviously I am not ready for the day by any means but I just put Jude down for his snap I got a load of laundry on the couch to fold kids are playing outside Lara wants me to go help her find salamander so we’re gonna do that I actually have on like a different dress than I plan to wear tonight but I don’t know I just felt like with the cooking and stuff I didn’t want to get dirty did you find any all right little check-in I did change into the dress that I want to wear for the day now that I’m done kind of cooking and cleaning and stuff I mean I probably those things never end right am I right but that’s okay uh I love this dress I love the sleeves on it and it is a long dress it’s from The Gap originally of course I got it all thread up and I’m not sure if this event is going to be indoor or outdoor she’s done it both ways so sure it’s sunny and beautiful outside which makes you think it’s going to be outside but it’s chilly and as long as you’re dressed for it it’s going to be gorgeous and fine so I just want to make sure everyone you know is dressed warmly to enjoy it it’s that time of year when the Sun’s shining it’s wonderful and it’s fun to be outside in the chill but as soon as that sun goes down it starts to get really chilly but usually she has like a bonfire and it’s just a fun fall event boys are resting and I did finish editing I just need to I think I uploaded it I have to do a thumbnail and get that posted or scheduled I’m really happy with how my pie turned out not that I am able to cut into it but I did bake the filling and I tried it out and this tastes really good which makes me think that that is going to taste really good and that nut crust is just so delicious and I will probably put a note just so people know that it has nuts in it thankfully we don’t have any food or seasonal or any allergies at all so it really just like goes over my head until you know I make something that has nuts or peanut butter or something and then I have to I have to catch myself and say and let people know that things have things in them it is Saturday which means it’s my day to do some sort of tidying or cleaning outside so then I’m gonna go sweep off our front step we had friends over last night and my friend thankfully was going to kill like this Hornet that was right outside of our front door and as he was going to kill it he with his foot hit our Lantern that’s on our step and cracked one of the glass in the lantern so I might have to just take that glass out and maybe just flip it around and you know not worry about that actually he probably broke I haven’t even looked at it he probably broke the front that has the little latch but that’s okay I also got another thread up package so I’m gonna open this I’m pretty sure it’s a dress I think that was the last thing that I got all right this is the dress that I got it’s from Hayden never heard of that brand and right off the bat I don’t think I’m going to be keeping this it’s incredibly wide and tent like does have pockets but I think it’s just gonna be I’m just gonna be like swallowed in it and it is short sleeve which of course I knew that but you know I can Overlook the sleeve if it’s not long sleeves for the winter if I can appreciate some other things to it but I really think this is just going to be way too big like I’m wearing a tent but I appreciate that they wrapped up the tassels so that they wouldn’t get all like frayed I don’t know that that might be a fail s [Music] everything I found honey I found it on you you’re the song I wanna sing you’re the story I wanna tell [Music] you’re the reason I believe that honey love is a ringing Bell [Music] [Music] nothing could shake me but then you shook me turn the right side up being wrong side down [Music] give me words right you wouldn’t change all right so here’s kind of my final look for this this dress it has pockets which is wonderful but it’s kind of like that nap style dress where it’s just very like wide and loose so I like to use a belt with it sometimes if I just want to be casual then I don’t mind just leaving the belt off but this was from Kristen Hoffman when we did that um that like swap box one time and it’s a little long so I took it in and then I switched out from my ballet flats to my boots and we’re good to go and then I’ll bring that large sweater with me and Luke was napping in here and that’s why my bed’s not made it was made this morning but now it’s not so I’m gonna bring my sweater and then I have my pie here just in a basket and then I’ll bring this towel just to protect it on the way there um and then I don’t know just use kind of as decoration and PJs to change into when we leave I also made a coffee it’s a little after four now usually I have coffee around like two or three but I decided to hold off so I could have it with my pie when we’re there and we’ll also be having dinner there which is just it’s just such a fun it’s such a fun time it’s like a perfect fall Gathering so we’re gonna go have a The Pie Contest we had so much fun and everyone got a different award I actually forgot to take mine home now that I just said that they had like chocolate chocolatiest and fruitiest and then most popular tastiest I think Ari’s got one of those I don’t remember which one and there was like medius somebody made a meat pie so it was a lot of fun and it was beautiful outside but we are back home now baby’s in bed I think we’re gonna do a movie night so they are just downstairs in the basement tidying up and then we’re gonna do watch the movie and head to bed we got church in the morning so we don’t want to stay up too too late but I’m just gonna call it a vlog here thanks so much for watching and I’ll see you tomorrow thank you [Music]

*Pumpkin Pie recipe:
Nut Crust:
1 1/4 cup flour
1/2 cup nuts
1/3 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp vanilla
1/2 cup butter

Pumpkin Pie Filling:
3 eggs
1/3 cup granulated sugar
1/3 cup brown sugar
2 cups pureed pumpkin
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
1/4 teaspoon cardamom
pinch of salt
3/4 heavy cream
3/4 half-and-half

Preheat oven 450º F. Beat eggs and sugars together. Stir in pumpkin puree, spices and salt and mix thoroughly. Stir in cream and half and half. Pour filling into prepared pie crust. Bake the pie for 8 minutes, then reduce heat to 325º F and bake another 40-45 minutes or until filling is set. Cool completely before cutting. Serve with fresh made whipped cream.
