I wish I could take credit for creating the very first mango salad, but if you’re unfamiliar with the depth of Vietnamese cuisine, this is actually a traditional salad. Now, in Vietnamese cooking, the word gỏi refers to a type of cold salad or slaw made with thinly sliced vegetables, fresh herbs, and a vibrant fish sauce-based dressing. These salads are designed to be refreshing and flavorful, often served as an appetizer or side dish to complement heavier main courses. Over time, cooks began experimenting with tropical fruits that were abundant and inexpensive, like mango and green papaya.

  2. I live in Honduras, where tropical fruits grow locally. I have tried Thai Green Papaya Salad, now I want to try this Vietnamese Green Mago Salad. Too bad that neither of those fruits are in season locally, but when they are, I will be making both types of these fruit salads.
