Inside Singapore’s NEWEST Japanese Supermarket (worth it?)

A new supermarket from Japan just opened in Singapore but my questions is – do we need another one of this? Currently there are many Japanese supermarkets in this small country and I wanted to see what makes this one different.

    1. GHIB OJISAN – Good afternoon from HKSAR 🇭🇰May I please ask why you upload this video so early in the day……? ? 🤔🤔🤔🤔Your video normally and usually shown in the evening at 7:30 p.m…….What a good surprise 😳 😳😁😁😁😁
Make sure you pay before you leave the store, ah ! You just eat and drink at the spot 🤨🤨😳😳

    2. Seems like a regular supermarket, partially stocked with JP products and wrapped in a JP skin to increase curb appeal.

    3. Maybe because there are agricultural or processed food produce from Fukushima, so blanketed all labels without Country of Origin.

    4. Thank you so much for your recommendations, however it's hard to survive in Singapore and in Tanjong pagar area. Most cheapo Sillaporeans prefer the CCP PRC chi-na food from Scarlett, I would prefer more Japan store over CCP PRC Chi-na store

    5. Anyone remembers Emporium Shokuhin, formerly Singapore's first integrated Japanese emporium and supermarket at Marina Square, from 2015-2018? I found it so impressive but too bad it incurred much financial losses and was forced to close. Nice to see another Japanese supermarket opening here, bringing us affordable and variety of Japanese products, especially for those who cannot travel to Japan – just hope they can survive the stiff competition and rental costs here…

    6. I really would also like that they tell me where the produce are all from. It makes a difference in my decision to purchase.

    7. i think it will bankrupt soon the choices so limited i rather go don don donki waste money open pathetic shop

    8. If I remember correctly, Natto 3-Pack at Don Don Donki is $2.90. At FairPrice Xtra, same 3 types cost $3.90 (still cheaper than the Made in Malaysia one! 👀)

Ya, Natto is more expensive in Singapore probably due to shipping cost.

    11. There are many Japanese restaurants in TP area and I think the restaurants' kitchen staff will appreciate some convenience in sourcing for ingredients.

And I hope that the store front is just for "show" only with the real deals being made by the chefs and the shop owner behind the counter to bring in ingredients that are rare or is cheaper through consolidated shipping channels. Afterall, that's how wholesaling works even if it's to bring in rare stuff like monkfish.

That is the only way this shop can survive with the crazy rents in TP area.

So the shop front is there simply to perhaps showcase new items sourced from HQ in Japan in order to give more exposure to Japanese food that is very regional, like whitebait from Kamakura.

In Singapore, it seems like our whitebait are from Indonesia. In Kamakura, whitebait can be eaten raw! Although, I prefer it boiled.

    12. I went Lawson when I was in Tokyo. I bought and tried a mochi there, it was the softest mochi I have ever tried, I went back several times but they were out of stock, I hope they import it to Singapore, I wanted to eat it very much

    13. Ghib grabbed a big basket, and took only 1 packet of japalenos! 🤣 WHY?! You could have just grab the packet of jalapenos and hand it to the cashier! hahaha!
Love your honest review of this supermarket though~ 👍🏼💕

    14. restaurants in the vicinity can save time just walk over instead of waiting for their supplier to deliver so don't need to be cheaper.

    15. 8:51 Pasta brand A, 5 KG priced at $42. Pasta brand B, 1 KG, priced at $4.50. If you buy five packets of Pasta brand B, the total price is $22.50, which is 40+% cheaper than Pasta brand B. Wouldn’t this result in dead stock occupying shelf space, where the shelf space incurs rental expenses and opportunity costs, netting significant financial losses over time? Please provide feedback to A-Price, Japanese supermarket, Tanjong Pagar, Singapore, management.

    16. ICYMI, this store is run under TOHO Singapore which is one of the biggest Japanese-origin Foodstuff Supplier and Distributor here, alongside Pan Pacific Retail Management (which is the franchise owner of Donki SG).
So whatever TOHO Singapore distributes here, there's a very high chance you can find it in the A-Price Store (which is like a retail storefront for the Distributor to showcase the products they distribute from JP Suppliers).

Also, it's for Japanese Dish preparation in the same way Phoon Huat (AKA Redman) is for desserts/confectionary, if you know what I mean.
