How to Make Kale Chips – Healthy Snack Hello and welcome to In the Kitchen with Matt,
I am your host Matt Taylor, Today I am going to teach you how to make a healthy snack,
Kale chips. I really like Kale, It is super healthy for
you, it is really cheap, I got a bunch of Kale at the supermarket for ninety-nine cents. So this is a cheap quick little snack to make. So first what we are going to do is we are
going to preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Alright, and now, what I did is a washed the
Kale and I dried it with a paper towel. And you want to make sure it is pretty dry
so the moisture doesn’t effect it when it is in the oven. And now what we are going to do is we are
going to remove the kale leaf from its stem. Super easy, you just grab it by its stem and
you grab the leafs at the base and you just pull like this, and there it goes, it comes
right off. And I am going to put this right here in the
corner, set this aside. And then what we are going to take our kale
leaf here and we are going to take little pieces off. Like that, and lay them out flat. And these are just bite sized, and they are
going to shrink a bit when they are baking. We will do another one here. The stem is really bitter, so you don’t want
the stem in there. And what we want to do is we only want one
layer here, of the Kale. So you can do a couple batches if you want. Ok now what we are going to do is take some
olive oil, and just drizzle a little bit all over the Kale, and we are going to mix it
in all together with our hands. We don’t want to use too much oil, just a
little bit, drizzle a little bit on there, its good enough, then we will grab the kale
like this, and just massage it all together and get the oil all over it. And then we are going to spread it out flat
again. And now we are going to bake it in the over
for a total of 15 to 20 minutes, and half way through so the 8 to 10 minute mark we
are going to flip them to the other side, so it is nice and uniform. We will go on to that step. Ok these are done, and this is how they look
when they come out of the oven. Alright and now for the break down. These Kale chips cost about a dollar and I
would say 5 cents. The kale was 99 cents and it was about 5 cents,
a couple cents, or whatever for the oil that I used and then I am going to use a little
bit of salt, so super cheap. Now what I am going to do is take some salt
and I am just going to barely put some salt on there, just like that, not too much, and
then, you can eat them right off of there, but I am going to take them and put them in
this bowl right here, you can hear how nice and crispy they sound. Set them aside, and you can add other flavors
if you want. You can add parmesan cheese, garlic powder,
ranch flavored powder, whatever flavor that you want. So I cam going to dive into one of these. MMM, really crispy, not an overly strong kale
flavor, super good, super cheap. Go out and make some, I am Matt Taylor this

Great video Matt 🙂 Going to try this tonight
I have made so many kale chips in my life and they are one of my favorite snacks. Anyway, nice tutorial, Matt. I used bag kale most of the times I made them and it takes me a lot of work to get them off the stem. Either way, they are still delicious. I'm gonna start using unpackaged kale from now on because of that tip.
The fact I can say I know this man, my dad used to work with him, and he buys Girl Scout cookies from me makes me proud!
Sincerely,
Brooke (Johns daughter)
Love the healthy recipes, Matt! Great idea.
Oh my! I'm not a health freak (well not really), I'm not a Vegan, and am fortunate that I don't have to weight watch; so my love for Kale (and all greens to be honest) is purely in the pleasure for the taste and smell. This is a novel way of cooking Kale, I usually steam it with other vegetables and incorporate it into a meal (dinner mainly). I will definitely try this method… Thank you! 🙂
Hey Matt, what is the tempature to bake them? Thank you and it looks yummy.
What if you prefer to be oil free. What would be another good option
I have made kale chips quite a few times & I use my air fryer & they turn out crispy every time & I think I must continue to make them because they are very healthy for you.
