This journey takes us from Osaka to Kagoshima.

We travel aboard the MOL Ferry “Sunflower” Osaka–Shibushi route, which connects Osaka with the Osumi region of Kagoshima Prefecture.
After an overnight ferry journey, we arrive in Kagoshima in the morning and enjoy the experiences unique to ferry travel.

Upon arrival, we head into Kagoshima City using the free high-speed shuttle bus “Sunflower Liner.”
Surrounded by beautiful scenery, nature, and the atmosphere of the city, we explore Kagoshima — a place that is also a hidden treasure trove of great food — and enjoy local flavors unique to the region.

Starting with this Kagoshima episode, a new channel we’ve been quietly preparing — “Slow Slow Travel” — is finally about to begin.

Until now, I’ve mainly traveled solo, but on this new channel, my parents travel by camper van, slowly and comfortably, at their own pace, exploring destinations both in Japan and abroad.

The very first episode begins with this Osaka to Kagoshima journey.
Behind the scenes, they were actually traveling along a different route this time — enjoying BBQ camping, visiting a sand bath, and having a pretty good time along the way.

The video will be released soon, so feel free to check it out when it’s live.

  3. Is it a Japanese breakfast without nattō?

(I don’t know for certain. I’ve had nattō for breakfast occasionally but I’m originally from Illinois, now live in Florida, and have never been to Japan.)

  4. I wonder whether being a Wagyu cow or steer feels different from being one from a Western breed. Does the intramuscular fat handicap the animals in any way? Does it provide any advantages?

Not that cattle are intelligent enough to care. I’m fairly sure that they aren’t.

  5. There is an app called Night Sky where you can hold your phone up to the sky and it will show you the names of the stars/constellations — very cool!

  6. Hi Solo travelers, next time you’re in Osaka, join one of our Meetup events. It’s a rare opportunity to sit down and talk to locals in English. We meet in stylish and new cafes, perfect for solo travelers like you.

  7. The weather on the first is stunning and still lovely on the next day except for some fog!!! I am in Canada on Feb 21 and it is -15 C in our city today. 😮

  8. Wonderful. If I was on the Sunflower ferry I would get the recording of the song and everything Sunflower. Sadly I can not travel anymore. Greetings from Canada.

  9. Whenever workers (from ship or train companies) wave the passengers goodbye in your movies, my eyes are are always misty. Not sure why XD. Also, the way you commented the food during this fancy dinner, SoloSolo-san, are you perhaps some known food critic in Japan? XD

  14. I had fantasized about doing a trip like this; an outbound one-way trip and then at the end of the voyage immediately turn around and go back in the same type of cabin.
