#29【福岡VLOG】心ほぐれる秋散歩🍁紅葉とカフェを巡る休日ログ| 呑山観音寺・雷山千如寺・竈門神社

As autumn deepens, a tranquil splendor spreads across Fukuoka. This time, I’ll introduce some of Fukuoka’s best spots for viewing autumn leaves and some relaxing cafes I visited nearby. I hope you enjoy the autumn scenery and a relaxing time together. I visited Raizan Sennyoji Temple, nestled quietly in the mountains of Raizan, Itoshima City. Because it’s nestled in the mountains, the surroundings are incredibly quiet. The trees, a blend of red, orange, and yellow, create an autumnal atmosphere. The large maple tree is the symbol of this temple. Over 400 years old, it’s surprisingly powerful and beautiful up close. The blend of red, orange, and a touch of green makes the entire tree look like a painting. The color and shape appear different depending on the angle. This side is still greener. The temple grounds include a garden created during the Muromachi period, a beautiful space featuring a pond and dry landscape gardens. In autumn, the maple trees change color, making for an even more charming stroll. Everything, from the sound of water to the gentle rustling of leaves, is soothing. From the Shoin, the large maple tree looks like a framed painting. The magnificent Niomon Gate, built in 1990 based on the style of Kyoto’s Daigoji Temple, serves as a frame, enhancing the vibrant colors of the trees in the background. Nio statues stand on either side, guarding the entrance. Photography was prohibited inside the Kaisan-do Hall and Kannon-do Hall, which house important national cultural properties, but just breathing in the air inside made me feel refreshed. The grounds exude a serene atmosphere, and just walking around seemed to calm my mind. Raizan Sennyoji Temple is a temple with a truly tranquil atmosphere nestled in the quiet mountains. It’s about a 20-minute drive from Raizan Sennyoji Temple. Located in the Shiraito Forest in the mountains of Itoshima, this cafe is surrounded by nature and trees. The menu includes drinks, sweets, quiche, hot sandwiches, and more. The cute, forest-themed sweets are eye-catching. After ordering, choose your favorite chair and head to the tree deck. Wow, it’s like a secret hideout in the forest! You can choose your seat and enjoy a 360-degree view of the greenery from the tree deck. Just looking down at the forest from the treetops is thrilling. I chose the highest deck. Once I secured my seat, I went to pick up my order. Enjoying a cafe au lait in the forest warms the soul. The quiche was potato and bacon. The savory flavor of the bacon and the fluffy texture of the potatoes were exquisitely delicious. I felt like I was in a picture book. Surrounded by the sounds of nature, such as birdsong and the sound of the wind, I was very relaxed. Because of my job, I wondered how this tree deck was supported? Oh, I see, so that’s how it’s supported… There was also an observation deck. Itoshima is a place rich in nature, and you can also enjoy the impressive Shiraito Falls and the floating couple rocks of Sakurai Futamigaura. Donzan Kannonji Temple is located in the mountains of Sasaguri Town, Kasuya District. Around the end of October, maples, Enkianthus campanulatus, wild cherry trees, wax trees, zelkova trees, and a variety of other trees begin to change color, enveloping the temple grounds in a vibrant autumn glow. The temple grounds are also home to Gokuraku Ojo-in Temple, home to over 3,000 Mizuko Jizo statues, creating a solemn atmosphere. Many maples are planted in front of the main hall of Tenno-in Temple, creating a beautiful gradation of red and yellow. The soft, gentle colors of autumn, like a filter, permeate the landscape. Just walking beneath the autumn leaves lifts your spirits. Tenno-in Temple’s principal image is Namikiri Fudo Myo-o, said to have saved Kobo Daishi Kukai from a shipwreck while he was returning from Tang China. Fudo Myo-o is enshrined behind a door, exuding a sense of calm and dignity that naturally straightens your spine. On this day, the Yugi Daihoto Pagoda, which is usually closed, was open to the public for a special autumn viewing. Apparently, only five Yugi Daihoto Pagodas remain in Japan, and this is the only one in Kyushu. The Yugi Pagoda is surrounded by colorful trees, creating a beautiful harmony between the autumn foliage and the majesty of the tower. Just walking through the temple grounds, you can feel the tranquil atmosphere of the mountain temple, surrounded by colorful trees. Donzan Kannonji is a very large temple consisting of three areas: Donzan Kannonji, Tennoin, and Yugi Pagoda. Finally, we visited the Donzan Kannonji area. The Hyaku Kannon Hall was built to commemorate the 1,200th anniversary of Kobo Daishi’s founding of Mount Koya. The hall houses 100 Kannon statues, and is truly impressive to see in person. This area is home to many Dotan azaleas, whose leaves turn bright red in autumn. Leaving the Hyaku Kannon Hall, the crimson leaves fill the entire view. After purifying my hands, I headed to the main hall to pray. After praying, I felt a bit hungry, so I bought a croquette from a food stall. (It was delicious!) This burger restaurant is located in the mountains of Sasaguri, about a 10-minute drive from Donzan Kannonji Temple. Tucked away in Kannon Park, its charming atmosphere makes it feel like a cafe in the forest. Housed in a renovated old house, the interior is a relaxing space where you can truly feel the warmth of wood. The high ceilings and spacious seating create a relaxing atmosphere for a meal. The burgers are a luxurious selection made with Japanese Black beef. They even come with a generous side salad and fruit, making the entire plate look gorgeous. The sweetness of the fruit combines with the subtle kick of ginger for a refreshing burger. The bun, patty, cheese, and vegetables are all delicious, creating a perfect balance! While it’s more than four times the price of an M-mark burger, it’s 10 times better. (This is purely my personal opinion.) It’s the perfect place for a relaxing lunch away from the hustle and bustle of the city. There’s a select shop called “Toukano Nikai” on the second floor. The shop is filled with carefully selected items, including miscellaneous goods, clothing, accessories, and tableware. You’re sure to find the perfect treat for yourself or a small gift. It’s a great place to stop by while waiting for your order or after your meal. Sasaguri is also home to the tranquil and lush Kyudai Forest and Nanzoin Temple, famous for its imposing, gigantic reclining Buddha statue. We’ve also uploaded a separate Sasaguri VLOG, so please be sure to check it out! Following last year, I visited Kamado Shrine in Dazaifu again this year. It’s a six-minute bus ride or a 30-minute walk from Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine. Surrounded by nature, the shrine offers a different look with each season, from cherry blossoms in spring to autumn leaves. While the foliage is a little less beautiful than last year, it’s still a great place to enjoy the autumn atmosphere. The bright red maple leaves are beautiful, but I also love the blend of green and yellow. Like Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine, Kamado Shrine is deeply connected to Dazaifu, the ancient political and cultural center of Kyushu. According to legend, it was founded over 1,500 years ago by order of the Imperial Court to enshrine the deity of Mount Homan. It has long been worshipped as the god of matchmaking. The sacred camphor tree, its branches reaching powerfully toward the sky, is a sight to behold. Autumn is already short, but with summer getting hotter every year, it’s a little sad to see it getting even shorter. The autumn leaves, while slow to turn red, quickly wither and fall. Crunching through the fallen leaves in the cold wind, I felt the end of autumn and the arrival of winter. This cafe, located just outside Nishitetsu Dazaifu Station, is a secluded house with a garden, offering a relaxing space where you can enjoy the natural greenery and warmth of the wood. The interior is small, but the large windows create a pleasant open feeling. Grilled pork with porcini mushroom cream sauce (chicken is also available) and colorful appetizers and fruit are also visually appealing. The multigrain rice soup appetizer has a unique flavor, making each bite a different delight. The rich, mushroom-flavored cream sauce clings tightly to the meat, creating a rich yet gentle flavor. The meat is also delicious, crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. However, I personally think it would have been even better if it had a bit more spice! This popular restaurant is recommended for lunchtime visits, so we recommend arriving a little earlier. Speaking of Dazaifu… Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine, known as the god of learning, and the food tours along the approach to the shrine are also popular. We have also uploaded a Dazaifu VLOG, so please check it out! Akizuki Castle Ruins, which was deserted when we visited in the summer, is bustling with people during the autumn foliage season. There are also stalls along Suginobaba Street, a famous cherry blossom viewing spot. Unfortunately, the autumn leaves in front of Kuromon Gate, the highlight of Akizuki Castle Ruins, were still yellow. A large difference in temperature between day and night is important for the leaves to turn a vibrant red, but Fukuoka lacks these conditions. Northern Kyushu is relatively warm, with smaller temperature differences between day and night than Honshu, meaning there are fewer places where the leaves turn a deep red. Instead, you can enjoy the soft, warm yellow and orange autumn scenery. Because the leaves change color more slowly, you can sometimes see bright red leaves in mid-December, creating a wonderful combination with the Christmas season. The autumn colors quietly deepen, creating a warm, gentle atmosphere. Suiyu Shrine, located on the Akizuki Castle Ruins, is even more tranquil, with a somewhat solemn atmosphere. The Akizuki Junior High School building, visible through the autumn leaves, further enhances the serene autumn scenery. While Fukuoka has few historical sites, Akizuki Castle remains a vivid example of its precious history. The stone walls and black gates, which change color with the seasons, gently convey a sense of history. The serene autumn atmosphere of Akizuki Castle, woven with the colorful trees and stone walls, was quietly soothing. Let’s head down to the castle town and have a coffee. As I mentioned in my Akizuki VLOG, Akizuki’s cafe is my favorite. This cafe, renovated from a traditional Japanese house over 110 years old, exudes charm. In the summer, fans, wind chimes, and paper fans provided a cooling sensation, but now stoves and blankets create a warm atmosphere. Instead of cold water, they serve cold-brewed coffee. A delightful complimentary dessert. It’s a shame the aroma can’t be conveyed through video. The Costa Rican honey has a mellow texture and a rich, deep sweetness. The complimentary raw chocolate melts smoothly in your mouth, its rich sweetness filling your mouth and making you feel truly happy. The Costa Rican honey was so delicious, I decided to buy some beans to take home. This riverside restaurant, located a four-minute drive from the castle town, was also featured in the Akizuki VLOG. It wasn’t on my itinerary this time, but the beautiful autumn leaves and camellia flowers at the entrance drew me in. I wondered if it would be cold, considering it’s a cool, refreshing spot even in summer, but the weather was nice and warm that day, so it was just a pleasant coolness. While not as busy as summer, the restaurant was reasonably busy. The autumn leaves near the entrance were beautiful, but the interior wasn’t quite as lively. The aroma of charcoal fires permeating the restaurant further stimulated my autumn appetite. The free seating was crowded, so I sat in the paid seating area (800 yen flat rate) on the hill overlooking the waterfall. I was in the mood for some dango (rice dumplings). It was a few days of whizzing through the short autumn. It was a short but luxurious time, experiencing nature, history, and enjoying delicious food. I plan to go to Kyoto in a few days, so I hope to be able to enjoy the beautiful autumn scenery at the end. I look forward to sharing the beautiful scenery with you all.
