    swelling’s not bad, but while it is here, I look   like a cat. So, I’m team Catwoman today. Can we

    And then in a year or like three months, I can show you like my new hair. I’m going to have like, 
    you know, flowing locks. Oh my gosh, it’s I’m so   excited. I’m going to have your hairline. Majestic 
    perfect hairline. John Cena is the real influencer here. John Cena’s surgeon made me more beautiful. 
    Well, I was influenced. Well, I have not seen this movie since the theaters. Oh, I haven’t seen it 
    since last year. Okay. At Halloween. When did this come out? Uh 2022. It was the first like Oh, damn. 
    It’s been a few years since I’ve seen this cuz pandemic was like this was the big recovery movie. 
    I still feel like this came out a year ago for   some reason. Three now. Wow, that’s a long time. 
    Yeah. Well, we have watched the Burden movies. We watched Mask of Fantasm. We did the Dark Knight 
    trilogy and we will hop on to Snider trilogy, but because of Halloween, we had to skip to the 
    Batman. I’m so excited for the timing of this cuz   now it actually feels like we’re in Halloween, 
    which I’m very excited about. Yeah. And I’m excited for you to be uh reporting from the desert 
    today. Yes. Gotham. Gotham news reporting back. This is the Cathette. See, there’s a catwoman in 
    the streets of Gotham. Cat in the streets. Penguin   wreaking havoc everywhere. A man dressed as a bat, 
    you say? What will be this Batman? Good luck to everyone, including me for the next 3 hours. It’s 
    fine. You can just hold like that the whole time.   I might. I might. Well, guys, what do you think 
    about the Batman? Do you think this is the best Batman interpretation I have ranked in the past 
    three years ago? It must be. Yeah, might have been recency bias. I said Robert Patterson is probably 
    my favorite Batman, but now that we’re watching   all these backtoback, I mean, we still got Affleck 
    to go through, but I can now see if I like him more than Christian Bale. Christian Bale is my 
    favorite Batman. I did definitely when watching   this think that this was going to be my favorite 
    take, but even then, I remember saying I think in two movies he can prove it. But I don’t think 
    he’s there yet because we got to see the Batman develop, but not Bruce Wayne develop. If the Bruce 
    Wayne character develops enough in the Batman 2,   I could see him taking over Bale. But I think 
    Bale’s pretty confidently in first for me. Okay, we’ll save some of this for I mean, let’s actually 
    have a commentary. Let’s do a short intro. 5   minutes and full length reaction watch along where

    Ready to do this? So excited. Let’s do it, baby. All right. This is the first one to be 
    rated PG-13 for graphic violence. It   is pretty intense. Like Matt Reeves 
    violence is a little more hardcore. feels like grimace. It’s very 
    like tactile and and harsh. Provide commentary. Coy, what does a Maria mean? 
    Uh the A Maria is the song at the end where he   the the the Riddler song when he goes a Maria like 
    that’s the song. This is alluding to the the big moment with him later on. That’s good commentary. 
    Yeah, there you go. A little foreshadowing that   way. You know, this is the Riddler’s POV. 
    We’re inside the head of the Riddler who is planning these minations that lead to Ava 
    Marie. Obviously, nuns tie into that as well.   Mar said this movie was inspired partially by the 
    uh the conversation in a Francis Forcopola movie and it has a very similar type of opening shot 
    uh through the POV of someone doing some type   of survey lanes. I never I’ve never seen that 
    film but to me this is the most David Fincher uh comic movie you’ll ever get. Like this feels 
    like Matt Reeves love letter to Fincher in the   same way that Guy Richie love letter in Costa. 
    There’s a pumpkin. Long Halloween. Also, ninjas. The League of Shadows. [Music] What an interesting 
    opening of a boy killing his father. Even though it’s pretend, there’s something thematically 
    symbolic about it. That is very Batman and a man in a suit. Very Thomas Wayneesque. Dude, 
    having to peer in on the 1%. They do a really good job establishing Gotham as uh the people 
    in this franchise. Between this and the Penguin,   I feel like we know Gotham much more than any 
    other. I love the Sinister POV. It’s so serial killer. All you could hear is the heavy 
    breathing. Yeah, it’s like Mine Hunter 7. And no one’s really known for that yellow lighting 
    he does with the cinematographers. And this   movie adopts a good amount of that. That’s a good 
    point. Subconsciously, that is kind of Batman now. animated series did it well too. My young opponent 
    here wants to gut the Gotham Renewal Program   established by the great Thomas Wayne. Cutting 
    funds for vital projects like our seaw wall [ __ ] drug bust. This opening shot in the first time in 
    theaters. The chill that this sent me. Oh, it’s such a good opening. We have a masked vigilante 
    running the street. And this movie brings back   the media proponent that we’ve been saying is kind 
    of missing in some of these films. That’s a really good point. The Frank Miller even framing at this 
    opening. I’m not saying there isn’t work to do. Listen, in a very realistic way to explain where 
    Gotham’s at right now. What an excellent show. I love that shot. That show of TV. Oh, you know, I’m 
    watching it now. Heavier Riddler character and set him up as such a big mystery. What a way to get 
    people to not equate him with Jim Car’s iconic but very different performance. But I thought 
    we were getting a bump in the new post poll. And then just like that, now you’re 
    in Riddler’s POV with that shot.   Who still believes in everything this 
    city? We need a leader, Mr. Mitchell, not a cheerleader. And someone who will 
    tell the people the truth. Ain’t that   truth? I love the depth and darkness. 
    The texture of this movie is beautiful. Where we get to later with 
    that carpet piece is genius. Oh, I just realized how you see this 
    scene here and this introduction of Riddler of him stalking someone and him 
    beating someone down. It’s so messy and ugly. And then when you’ll see Batman later, he’s 
    stalking someone and he beats them down, but it’s so much more controlled than efficient and clean. 
    Yeah, I don’t know if that’s intentional or just coincidence. Riddler really like admiring Batman 
    is something they did so well here. But I do feel   like the precision and physicality of Batman is 
    something he he wants. Like he talks about it. The like release of the kill is so gross. And 
    like oh they capture the killer thing so well. Feels almost like sexual. It does. Like this 
    exhale is very like finishing. Here we go. My favorite Batman opening. Let’s see if it 
    still is. Thursday, October 31st. Thursday. Thursday. Thursday. I love that day of the week. 
    Green light. Riddler into the Batman’s yellow. God, this Gotham. Yeah, I remember 
    the first time seeing this shot. Oh,   actually built a Goth cuz it’s new enough, but 
    it also feels like so many adaptations. Looks like Time Square turned into Gotham. Yeah. And it 
    feels like it’s got a flavor like the shoeer ones again. Is the element without being shoeer’s 
    films. waiting to strike like snakes. But I’m there too, watching. Two years of nights 
    have turned me into a nocturnal animal. Man, the first Batman we actually get internal 
    monologue. It was just so Batman to me. Exactly. I was so happy when I first heard 
    it. Like I said, I think with one more movie,   he could take bail over for me, but it’s going to 
    be hard. But at times, I have said it’s patent, and I do feel like at times this is who I think of 
    as Batman. It’s a big city. I can’t be everywhere. This idea of weapon weaponizing shadows is genius 
    of how he can’t be everywhere but he can make   people feel like he’s everywhere cuz then he 
    is literally I am the knight like he becomes the knight but they don’t know where I am. There’s 
    like a whole bunch of these voyeristic shots like the opening shot is a voyeristic shot from Riddler 
    but now like the shadows are the voyers. Well, it also kind of parallels like Batman is a 
    little messed up like that that watchful eye. He had to have known that that 
    looks straight up like Joker makeup,   right? I feel like it’s at least a nod like to 
    Joker henchmen. Like like even the the smile, the scarring, you know, every single franchise 
    we’ve watched has done a really good job with   henchmen. We have a signal now. So we need 
    it. But when that hits the sky, how grungy it is. Yeah. It’s like the bar is actually 
    cutting through the signal. Yeah. to them. It’s Batman in a helicopter. Oh no, the drop 
    heads are such a cool element to include here. Honestly, dude, this is a great costume. 
    Actually, yeah. Is a tool. Fear is a tool. I love it. Batman’s like not there, but 
    he’s just the shadows are terrifying. Just that that is such a relatable fear 
    feeling of like something supernatural is   in the shadows. Is that it? Fearing the 
    dark is so common. I know what that’s like to be a child and be worried 
    about that. But it it immediately   makes the superstition of criminals an 
    element that works. But I am the shadows. I love that because of the voiceover, 
    we don’t need to see him yet. And the   we get to see him come out of the shadows our 
    first time. Like it sets him up so well. Help. Well, Matt Reeves does such a great job of 
    establishing this Gotham as truly feeling like ugly and scary to walk around alone at 
    night. Yeah. Not even Nolan’s movies   like have that. They feel that way like in 
    the narrows. This whole city feels kind of repulsive. And the penguin tying into that 
    with long form, I think it was so special. Look how pitch black. I love how it 
    looks like it’s absorbing light. It’s   a trickery of the eye. So much of the time 
    you think you see him. Yeah. And it’s like for a second it has to get there. There he 
    is. Like just the littlest movements before fully coming in frame. It must have 
    been so hard to light that perfectly. One guy is scared. The hell are you supposed 
    to be? This play is so different in the trailer. There’s no music in the trailer 
    when he says that. Yeah, the score. Oh, that video game combo to meet us as Batman. 
    I’m vengeance. And the sound effect in the trailer was different, too. And here this 
    plays like scary from the trailer was like,   “Whoa, who’s so badass?” You know, instead here, you’re like worried for everyone. 
    You’re like, “What is this guy?” God, I love the cape. He looks like This 
    looks so like a thing you could run into. God, I love him in this. I totally forgot how 
    much I loved him in this badass dude because he’s he seems like he wants the violence, right? 
    Whereas you look at the other Batman avoiding too Yeah. They’re protectors, right? He’s vengeance. 
    This guy’s like, “No, I want to harm some people.” Yeah. And I I’m so curious how he’s going to play 
    that in the second film because the Ark of Hope   from vengeance. Even this guy who’s who he saves 
    is terrified of him. And he should be. I mean, doesn’t save. He lets him go. This guy, his the 
    one who he saves is terrified of him. Please don’t   hurt me. I love how he has that line. [ __ ] saves 
    his life. But he also saw that same rage we did of like, that’s a terrifying dude. The eyeball acting 
    in this movie is second to none. I think Patson’s eyes in this are why I don’t want all white eyes 
    and a gritty Batman cuz there’s so much emotion and the way he like looks extreme right and left. 
    So you get the whites of his eyes is genius. It’s called the Batman and there’s so many shots 
    within his actual POV. Similar to how Batman Begins makes you feel like this is my what it be 
    like to be Batman. This puts you in a different   type of feeling of that but similar. It’s like a 
    cautionary tale. This one police action. He’s with me officer. Are you kidding me, sir? You going to 
    let him in here? Martinez, let him through. And it blends both so well as a man who is scary, 
    intimidating, badass, but you also see it from the cost perspective of this [ __ ] freak. Yeah, 
    this guy insane. This dude in a costume dressed as a bat and the commissioner’s like, “Come 
    on in.” I love how he towers over everyone,   too. They cast so well. Jeffrey Wright was one 
    of those race swap castings that no one bitched about. I think he’s exceptional. People were just 
    like, “Yeah, that makes sense.” And he’s so good.   Like he earned this role as a new era of Gordon 
    because he doesn’t play it like Gary Oldman, but he plays it more like the Batman year 
    one I kind of think about. He’s so sad. Yeah, the broken Gordon. He’s in a Yeah, he’s just 
    a monk’s corrupt. I think Gary Man looks   more like the traditional. He’s more He’s very 
    traditional in that one like animated series, but he’s a little bit more like the comic book. 
    I also feel the camaraderie between this Gordon   and Batman in a different way. There’s like a 
    shorthand to them. Like this is straight up a Fincher movie. Like this just feels like David 
    Fincher. Killer may have taken it as a trophy.   He was alive when it was cut off. Echimosis around 
    the wound. He found the right voice. His soft and slightly pitched different voice is so perfect. 
    Security detail downstairs said the family was out trick-or-treating. The mayor was up here alone. 
    God, every shot in this is like [ __ ] painting. That’s why I’m so hopeful this guy comes back 
    to DP because I I I know he’s got scheduling   conflicts. This is uh Greg Frasier. Same DP as 
    Dune, but he’s shooting four Beatles movies right now. Your secret friend who so clever. Let’s play 
    a game. Just me and you. Does a liar do when he’s dead? There’s a cipher, too. I love how Batman 
    is is an awkward presence. He doesn’t belong. Yeah. And it’s so obvious. It like hops between 
    cool and funny, but in all the right ways. And it stays disconcerting. Like they’re all mentally 
    ill for letting him. He’s a goddamn vigilante. He could be a suspect. What are you doing to me? We 
    used to be partners. I’m just trying to find the   connection. Pete, he lies still. He’s so broken. 
    What does a liar do when he’s dead? He lies still. Cuz he still lies. And he’s also still. And 
    also he continues to lie. It’s a double meaning. It’s a real good punmanship. This must be your 
    favorite night of the year, huh? Pal, happy [ __ ] Halloween. I forgot they had an F word in here. 
    Oh, it’s a good one, too. PG-13. I love the angle that he took with this of having the GCPD feels 
    so untrustworthy. Yeah, like you have no clue who to trust. Corruption just seeps throughout here. 
    And the paranoia of Gotham, like you were talking   about earlier, it just it’s all-encompassing. 
    The kid found him. And then you had that parallel opening shot of the kid with the dad dying and 
    the ninja. Yeah. And he’s still in the ninja   outfit. And then you get this nirvana. This is 
    so well used. Needle drop. And like how Batman unintentionally feels weirdly responsible for his 
    parents’ death. It’s crazy to me how in two movies they’ve established like theme songs that are 
    actual pop songs with this and Superman. Like I think of Batman now with Nirvana and I definitely 
    when I hear like punk rocker, which I don’t have   with many superheroes. Yeah. A wife lost a 
    husband’s It just feels like Robert Patson’s Batman. So sad. Mayor Mitchell was a fighter for 
    the city and I will not rest until this killer is found. It’s a great setup because it’s obviously 
    like given the lines he’s saying, you could just swap. It’s it’s like Mad Libs with Thomas Wayne, 
    you know, 100%. I wish I could say I’m making a difference, but I don’t. Even this POV shot, 
    like this lockoff shot. Oh, murder, robberies, assault. Gotham during the day. Years later, 
    they’re all up. Emptiness. This feels like such   a real city. This Madison Square Garden feels like 
    an impossible task he’s up against. But I have to try. I love how in the bike feels dirty and broken 
    like the bat signal. This feels like the closest   we’ll ever get to the Darren Areronowski Batman. 
    That was going to be like mechanic Bruce Wayne. Crazy how your eye can still catch the Wayne Tower 
    even that small. Greg Frasier, you genius. Like there’s nothing pretty or romantic about any of 
    the way this is all going. It it feels so lowlevel man-made. Whereas the other Batman movies are so 
    romantic. You have to conclude this guy must be [ __ ] rich. Whoever this Batman is, where you 
    probably don’t get the impression that this is a rich dude who’s doing any of this. That’s a really 
    good point. You’re able to buy into the I don’t   just think it’s Bruce Wayne more. These nights 
    all rolled together in a rush behind the mask. These micro shots, my god, they’re gorgeous.   Right out of the Scott Snider run, Greg 
    Capulo art. Absolutely incredible run, which goes to Court of Owls, which is 
    what I think is the sequel. [Applause] I love seeing the audio we’ve already heard. 
    Yeah, it’s justified voice over. This is the journal you’re hearing. Yeah. Exact tales 
    of the crime still have not been released,   but a citywide manhunt is already underway. 
    Certainly is not the first time Gotham has been robbed by the murder of a political 
    figure. And we picked up on the echoes   before you had to say anything. Thanks just 
    in case. News Dr. Thomas Wayne and his wife Martha were slain during Wayne’s own a drifter 
    outfit is so great. This kid has probably had to live hearing that repeat like be reminded 
    of their death in the public constantly and everything Wayne all over town every time 
    you see it. I assume you heard about this. Oh, I see all this blood from his head. Are 
    there contacts like that? Not public, but I’m sure governmentally I’m sure I can get my hands on

    all I’m afraid of. Alfred, you’re not my father. I’m well aware. It’s so interesting watching 
    after the Dark Knight troll because I was just   about to say they did such a good job making this 
    so clearly different than the Nolan ones. It’s so opposite. Like it’s so apparent that this Alfred 
    has been struggling for so long to try to have some connection, but there’s like no connection 
    with them. They made him seem poor. It’s not as   cool. Like they did such a good job just playing 
    the levels. And yeah, speaking to his like MI6 background, that hint of the scar. Like it’s I 
    was going to say not not cool, but like it’s cool   in such a different way. This is such a broken 
    emo um sad cool versus the romanticism of Nolan traps. Yeah, I was thinking that too. Get 
    some Tom Hardy traps cuz that’s all you   really need. They only ever show him from 
    like shoulder blades up for size. I mean, there’s some shirtless shots here, but he’s 
    definitely the leanest. He’s like a Neil Adams   Batman. There’s something sort of meta about this 
    getting food. If Robert Bennett is like playing a vampire like role again an Gothic castle. Yeah. 
    He lies still is only a partial key. He only gives us H E L I S N T. So I’m looking for any double 
    symbols to start. Oh, this is great. This is the only way they connect. Detective work. Intellect. 
    It’s like John. Interesting. Got to solve that SEO problem. John and Greg Bond. We’ll finally talk

    was his diary developing the character. Oh,   that’s cool. And they turned it into a comic. 
    It’s amazing. Oh, I’ll gladly read that, dude. It’s so special. But that’s the Penguin,

    in this suit. Yeah, the neck cowl is so great. God, he looks great. It is loose. He’s such a 
    brawler, too. Everything’s like a video game fight. Like, combo, combo, combo. And the 
    stillness of Greg Frasier’s DP work. Hey, put the bat down or I’ll blow 
    your head up. Put the bat down. That’s who. Take it easy, sweetheart. God, Colin 
    Frell’s perfect. Boy, you’re everything they say. Ain’t you I guess we both are the start of 
    a Golden Globe winning performance. Truly, this Ledgers Joker, I don’t see Colin Frell like 
    he’s gone. And that his limited screen time in this launched that show like that from that like 
    they hadn’t planned it. Who is she? I really don’t know, Chief. I might have been coming out the 
    same time, but I wasn’t rolling with him. She’s from the studio. It’s okay, baby. Mr. Vengeance 
    here. Yeah, you don’t bite. Mr. Vengeance. She is easily my biggest crush since like high school. 
    Zoe Kravitzes. And then as Catwoman, good god, just does a drug deal in front of 
    the Batman and looks at him doing it. He’s paying attention to her looks. Like 
    the best eyeball of any Batman. Like the   eye acting Patson does not get enough credit. 
    I want to know who she is. What she has to do with this murder. Who’s Maida? The mayor’s. Oh 
    [ __ ] It is. Look at that. You better watch it. You know my reputation. Yeah. Like how 
    it goes by Oz. Do you? Great and powerful. Do you know my reputation? Do you? Whoever 
    she is or not Jake or Jazz Mitchell’s wife, maybe she knows. I love how much more weight all 
    of his lines have after the Penguin Show. Like, do you know your reputation like at this 
    point in the history of Penguin? Yeah,   that’s a really solid point. I think people talk 
    about Tobey Magcguire, Andrew Garfield, and Tom Holland like as you know, one’s the best Peter 
    Parker, one’s the best Spider-Man, Tom is both.   I think Christian Bale as of now is my favorite 
    overall. But I think Patson when he’s Batman is is hard to top. Like the voice, the eyeballs, the 
    physicality, like if we’re doing that separation,   I think Batman wise, it might be Patinson, but 
    Bruce Wayne and Batman, it might be Bale. Yeah, I meet you there because he does seem like ripped 
    out of the comics to me in a lot of ways. This specific one. Yeah, I’m just so invested in this 
    Batman on the news. Okay. No, I don’t know how they shot this cuz the depth of field is always 
    so interesting. It like her focus versus like   the fuzzy foreground and background is every shot 
    so it all looks like a masterpiece. Like the pull focuser on this should get an Oscar. Pull focus. 
    One of them underrated jobs. Yeah. Like that’s insane to me. You had to hold a 2-in focus in a 
    moving car while she does delivery of acting and then pull the bike had to be perfectly there the 
    entire time. What an impossible shot. And then all these voyer shots don’t work unless the pull focus 
    is perfect through rain. Yeah. With lighting and then a micro shot on his eyeball. And this is good 
    visual language of showcasing how there’s a hint of how Batman and Riddler might not be totally 
    opposite. I think there’s a case to be made for this being the most visually stunning comic book 
    film. I can’t think of a better looking one. Like I said earlier, every shot’s a painting. I’m just 
    so overwhelmed every time I watch this movie. Also ripped out of the comics. Like that haircut 
    and everything. They did such a good job. Cat. Catwoman. I get it. I also like that this Voyer 
    POV feels more leerous. like it’s got a different energy to it than the We’ve had three sets 
    of POV shots, but this one feels different. The music is a is a big mood shift for it 
    as well. And what a great way to get like a suitup montage without it being cheesy. Like an 
    in logical way. Well, she’s got that mysterious   fem fatal quality. And I totally buy that 
    jumpsuit. Like that feels plausible. It’s good thing you watched her change. Wouldn’t have 
    known otherwise. really got to respect this film   for its commitment to the genre 100%. It embraces 
    it its film noir inspirations, its slow build, its deliberate pacing, a three-hour movie and 
    and it it utilizes that. This is why I don’t want to rush Batman into the DCU at the cost 
    of these because this is such a different tone, such a different universe, and I want to have 
    10 of these. I don’t care if it takes 40 years. [Music] And I don’t care what the internet 
    says. If crypto popped into this world,   I would be very upset. Like it just doesn’t 
    work for me to have this and that live subtly. Pretty good at that. What a cool demonstration. Like there 
    pros. Every time you’ve seen Batman fight,   he’s he’s mainly his fists and when 
    Catwoman starts fighting, it’s mainly legs. and how well he moves defensively and offensively. 
    Who did the cape work? Like the cape choreography   is also so good. Give me that. It’s been doing a 
    pretty good job of building up that sensuality, too, without making it feel corny. Yeah, 
    I agree. Their chemistry is immediate. [Music] But like these unspoken moments, just 
    this physical touch and letting the music be part of the dialogue. Yeah. Showing that like 
    the physical attraction is building and their   breathing synchronized. Yeah. They started like 
    breathing in unison and their masks mirror each other. Like everything exposed on her mask is 
    hidden in his. So their face becomes one and   like the parallel of like the lines on their

    Oh, that’s interesting. I like that. I mean,   she puts together her own costumes as well. She’s 
    an embodiment of an animal, except it’s not born out of fear. It’s born out of love. Yeah. But 
    she’s like the broke version of Batman, you know? She’s just trying to sell save those close to her. 
    He’s trying to beat up everyone to save the city.   He waited for him. The gym. He’d always like 
    to work out late at night when no one else was around. It’s probably not good for your health.

    Like when I read the comics of Batman, usually I imagine a guy who’s admittedly more more akin 
    to like a Kevin Conroy voice. Sure. But for like a liveaction interpretation, I like this over the 
    growl. Yeah. And the like the wellspoken vocally projecting type of Batman. Hey, where you going? 
    Hospitality. That’s one of the guys I got into it with the other night. Drop the bat. Smart 
    to make you pay attention to that detail for   what comes later. Yeah. Only he’s an offduty cop. 
    There was a installation at San Diego Comic- Con that was going into the iceberg lounge. They 
    built all this and the all these symbols and   everything and you had to do detective work and 
    it was an actual club and when we were in it, it caught on fire so we got evacuated. But I 
    thought it was part of the experience. So I   thought the real San Diego cops were actors. So I 
    was like, “What? What’s next?” And they were like, “Get out.” It was so well built. I 
    thought it was part of a bit. Jesus, I hate drop heads. Looks when I first saw you, 
    it looked like you were dealing with Penguin. You   don’t know what you’re talking about. Can we not

    going to come apart. Those contact lenses have great directional mic. Does anybody want a drink?

    knowing what happens later and like they set up a character. I love this interaction meeting.

    job making you uncomfortable and then it gets   worse when you find out. Yeah, so creepy. And 
    if you read Long Halloween, it’s like so many layers to this. I was just headed back upstairs. 
    Don’t be a stranger. It’s really interesting how differently Mark Strong and he play it, but both 
    really work. I think John is way creepier. It’s definitely more disconcerting, but I feel Mark 
    Strong’s way more mafia boss. Tell me you had   a relationship. I don’t have a relationship with 
    him. Okay, that’s not what it look like. Get it? Wait, what are you doing? I’m sorry. Women 
    are so rational. Breaking up online’s hard, Batman. Who else you there? Yeah, I got to go. 
    Oh, you need a ride? That’s me right there. One choice away from something she’d regret. He does 
    bring a lot to this character. Really does. Not a ton of screen time. It’s so lived in. Learn 
    nothing about his history, but you can tell he   brought a history like this. I used to really 
    not like him as an actor. Oh, really? Used to so good. He’s got like that Kevin Klein thing 
    where I’m like everything he says is interesting. What a great way to Yes. showing the headrest over there, making 
    it messy, but showing that he has access   to them and not making it movie magic how 
    he has access like all of that in one beat. It’s just so unsettlingly grim. I think they 
    get away with the the PG-13 by having the out of focus and that makes it scarier. Like it’s 
    not that graphic and violence, but it just it’s the uncomfortable feeling that it feels grizzly 
    when it’s not. What we can’t see here is telling such a story. I just feel like this is such a 
    tangible world. And I like that Metropolis feels so fantastical and big. And this Gotham feels 
    huge, though. The Gotham feels massive. This is the best use of the volume I’ve ever seen. This is 
    the volume. That shot is the volume, dude. Is it   really? That right there is the volume. Oh [ __ ] 
    The best volume I’ve ever seen. I didn’t know they filmed any of this on the volume. Opposite of how 
    Disney uses it. Like look at that. Damn. All the   sunrise stuff, all the sunset, all volume. Oh my 
    god. I had no idea. This is them on a set. I think Disney’s used it very well in the beginning and 
    then Star Wars, they started overusing it because   this is how you use it. When you started using 
    it to just save money, it’s it shows. This is to add depth. Yeah. That’s to not build a set. They 
    made a secret deal with this guy. Who knows how many people it touches. politicians, police, 
    the courts, of owls. Jesus, this is about a king. Damn, that’s a volume. That’s the volume. 
    It is beautiful. The set ends right at the end of the wood. I mean, I started to see it. Isn’t 
    that crazy? Sorry for the movie magic reveal,   but I think it’s important to know how good that 
    is. That is That’s pretty crazy. That looks really good. I never put I never even guessed that. 
    Our first shot of Bruce Wayne, not Drifter. My phone background is literally the volume 
    cuz I’m so fascinated by that. Is Bruce Wayne making an actual appearance? It’s a public 
    memorial for Mary Mitchell. Serial killers   like to follow reaction to their crimes. 
    Rather might not be able to resist. Oh, that reminds me. Work on this latest 
    cipher. The one from the rat maze. The   only time he turns around if it’s about the 
    work. I never put that together till that’s a really good note. That’s when he gives 
    him attention. Yeah. Oh, I respect you,   Alfred. You want to talk to me about being Bruce 
    Wayne soon enough? Leave me alone. with wings for a pigeon. Does that do that mean anything to 
    you? It’s a really good detail. Where are your   cufflings? I couldn’t find them. You can’t go out

    you? You away? Such a prank. What a glind. Such a different relationship in this than any 
    other Batman movie. It’s It’s a realistic way   of pushing someone away. I want to see Wayne, 
    Bruce Wayne develop as we see him and Alfred’s relationship develop like maybe the what 
    happens to Alfred as a catalyst and then   obviously the need for Bruce Wayne to come out 
    of the second film and again I don’t know if it’s Court of Obls but that would be a great 
    opportunity to have Bruce Wayne need to be   Bruce Wayne a public presence but Hushwood 
    too I mean Thomas uh like the Thomas Wayne uh reporter stuff that’s established in this could 
    be interesting. It makes sense to me that Bruce   Wayne doesn’t have an act together yet. That’s 
    a big part of the character is he’s just so not interested at all in being he doesn’t know how to 
    weaponize Bruce Wayne yet. That’s I think be cool   as a second movie. It’s about Bruce Wayne. Like 
    the character in a lot of the other movies you watch you watch Bruce Wayne underneath the Batman 
    mask and this is the first time you’re watching Batman in the Bruce Wayne mask 110%. And that’s 
    such a different unique dynamic because the end of the first Batman Begins is saying like this 
    isn’t your real face. This actually acts that. I love that they shot fake scenes of uh 
    her, but actually Zoe Kravitz for paparazzi, so people thought she was in this scene. Like 
    a lot of the leaked images, Matt Reeves had Zoe   Kravitz go to the set and then they set it up 
    right here. Brought out the one guy in the city more reclusive than me. Thought you’d never leave 
    a shoreline. Aren’t you afraid someone will take a   shot at you? Why? Cuz your father ain’t around. 
    Oz, you know Bruce Wayne. Wow. Is that right? [Laughter] He’s so good. So funny. And everlasting 
    I don’t really give a [ __ ] His father saved my life. I got shot in the chest. I couldn’t go to 
    the hospital. So we showed up on his doorstep,   operated right on the dining room table. 
    It’s the best I’ve ever seen this backstory delivered. Even in comics, I think this is 
    better. Like to establish the relationship   between him and Thomas Wayne is so good. Here 
    the family ask that those wishing to honor the mayor’s memory consider a donation to me dear 
    to his the Gotham when he every time we see the public there’s just this dirtiness that’s 
    so great and help my daughter when she needed   it was just another rich scum sucker they set 
    up the future Riddlers so well yeah there’s zero sympathy from the lower class here and then 
    in the Batman what they do with Ren’s character   is so good Bella Royale I’m running for mayor I 
    wouldn’t be bothering you here but your people keep telling telling me you’re unavailable. Will 
    you walk with me? Eva Maria’s back. Your family has a history of philanthropy, but as far as I can 
    tell, you’re not doing anything. If I’m elected,   I want to change that. This Gothic church is so 
    well found. I’d be curious to know what like the origin of a Maria is or what the song on its 
    own means. I I’m sure there’s it’s like the plots. You know what I mean? Like be something 
    like explicitly because when he sings it later,   it’s a big moment, but I don’t know. I don’t 
    know. My Jesus. Gil Coulson is missing. hasn’t been heard from since I love this. Christ, 
    not again. Hey, Mr. Wayne. I love this. That cop is so good. This is such a great dynamic 
    shot. The cop who like totally hates Batman, but he’s excited to see Bruce Wayne and 
    he sees the one familiar face here that he can maybe get along with, but has 
    no interest in like talking with him. I do think it’s a fun way to establish 
    a Robin dynamic like his compassion for   kids. He found Waldo. This stunt 
    is crazy if you think about it. This movie does such a good job keeping 
    things calm and then launching things at   you. I love how Paul do in a mask, but the 
    way they lit him can’t quite makes it look like he’s in his outfit. It’s a really good 
    point. I never noticed that any watch. Get   out. Having a really hard time deciding which 
    movie I like more. This or Dark Knight. Yeah, I I I was actually like kind of worried that this 
    would go down for some reason because I was like, man, those movies are great. But this is really 
    [ __ ] good. This is almost like a euphoric experience. But the Bruce Wayne choice I didn’t 
    ever really appreciate truly until now. the the hollowess, the lack of character intentionally. 
    Yeah, it’s it’s the first time I ever really felt like I to me logically knew it, but I feel 
    like I now emotionally resonate with it. Yeah, I think watching all the Batman’s really highlight 
    certain things. Strangely, it compliments and   elevates. I think I’m excited for Ben Affleck’s 
    take now comparing and feeling it out with these now more. I think he’s a great Bruce Wayne. 
    Do you talk to fish? It’s going to be great. This movie is so good at the we talked about the 
    voyeristic angles in the POVs, but there’s so   much use of technology to give you the POV into 
    the mind of people like you’re in the mind of Bruce Wayne looking out at Selena Kyle. You’re in 
    the mind of the Riddler looking through this POV and then the shadows come back. 
    He always knows where to make his   theatrical entrance from. I’ll 
    walk out from there later. Looks like a combination lock. You just cut it 
    off. Not if you want to keep your head. Like how you can hear the leather. It’s an interesting point. There’s so much more 
    like you can hear the duct tape, you can hear   the pages, you can hear all that. Well, Nolan’s 
    movies are, you know, it’s Nolan movie. They’re like [ __ ] lot bombastic. a lot of hyper editing, 
    you know, cutting around and and this is like the exact opposite. It is so patient. Who are you? 
    Nobody. I’m just an instrument here to unmask the truth about this cesspool we call a city. 
    Let’s do it together. Okay. He’s so [ __ ] cool, man. Madison is so good at this. He is Batman. 
    He’s he’s I definitely prefer his Batman over Bales. Thought I [ __ ] love Bale’s bad truth. 
    It is pretty hard. I really don’t know which   one’s my favorite. It’s It’s so recency bias 
    whenever you’re just experience it. But Dark Knight was such an experience. Can we get somebody 
    out here? This is going to kill me. Shut up. You   don’t deserve to be dead after what you did. You 
    hear me? Okay. Oh, the neestestuous child choice to make him so impulsively violent. I’m giving 
    you a chance. No one ever gave me a chance. Even the DP work of Batman’s face in the frame 
    watching is good. I love how there was something   that seemed familiar to the DA at that moment 
    that he decided to turn the camera around. Paul Dano’s whole backstory is great cuz it talks 
    about accounting for the mob and stuff and how   he discovers it. It’s a legit comic arc, but it 
    ties directly into this story. Riddle number one, it can be cruel, poetic, or blind, but when 
    it’s denied, it’s through violence you may find. The answer is Justin. This also shows his 
    great detective work. That’s the other thing, too. His detective work is really highlighted 
    here. He doesn’t rebuild a bullet and find a   fingerprint. Does it feel like technological 
    as technological reliant? It feels like his mind is always worrying. He’s asking how much it 
    costs for you to turn your back. 58 seconds. How much? Nothing. How much? 10 grand. It’s just 
    not to prosecute certain cases. More cases.   You didn’t ask me that. Come on. I don’t 
    want to rat on ratting. Okay. Okay. Hey, Mr. Carlton. Just one more to go before your time. 
    Was a weasel. I think Sarsgard’s so good. Tell us which vermin you are paid to protect. Red, the 
    informant you all protect from the Salvatore [ __ ] case. How do you know about that? What’s

    builds this whole world. So much bigger than you could ever imagine. It’s the whole 
    system. The clock ticking down. [Music] That stunt is also amazing. How poetic in 
    that moment to plead for God while in the church. That stunt, man, that just got 
    launched by an explosive. Commendable. So good. Shows how human Batman is. He’s taken 
    out by that and then right away the GCPD [ __ ] put a gun on him. The POV is just on the end 
    of the Yeah. Why didn’t he take off the mask? What’s he going to lose? Who cares? I love the 
    chipping on it when you get close. Coulson’s   blood is on his hands. Maybe it’s on yours. What’d 
    you say? He would rather die than talk. What was he afraid of? You. It’s crazy how he looks 
    so much like a [ __ ] man with the mask on, but then when he doesn’t, he looks like a boy. 
    it. His jaw is so strong, but his eyes are like,   “Yeah, it’s really a point. You could be an 
    accessory to murder. Who are you playing, James?” Literally grab the ears. I love how he feels like 
    he could fight all these cops. You’re going to   put yourself on the line for this gun, Jim. Just 
    give me a minute. I’ll get him to cooperate. Okay, give him the room. I love the shots through the 
    cage. There’s like a separate lighting guy for   his eyes. It’s so good every frame. The white 
    in them. They must have used so much visine in this movie. They’re always so white. I mean, 
    yeah, Batman’s asleep deprived. He’s got to   be like constantly taking eye drops. But to me, 
    that captures the white of the animated series, but with the emotion of like a live action film. 
    We got to get you out of here. I love this scene so much. Hate on you. Will you punch me in the 
    face? [Laughter] Through that door, hallway to the stairs that go to the roof. What the hell 
    is going on here? This is the first Batman that feels like a vigilante. He’s so unhinged. Kinsey 
    narcotics. He’s one of the guys I got into it with at the iceberg lounge. Zane Kinsey Moonlights 
    with the penguin. I love the way he’s expressing. He has to do it like he’s interrogating. 
    All this is so noir. Moonlights as a cop. God, that’s cool. What an incredible shot. Oh, like the action is so rewarding cuz it doesn’t 
    feel this not this is not like an action movie,   but when it’s there, it’s so good. And then 
    the gargoyle shot like right here. Like we’re used to seeing him in control. I love this. 
    I wonder if this shot has aged any better. I   still don’t love this next shot, but I love that 
    shot. [Applause] That’s a good shot, though. Yeah, not a fan of the shot. Still not 
    still not a fan of that shot. This looks   really weird. This just looks so strange 
    and everything else has been so cool. Yeah. And uh yeah, this is the this is a moment 
    too where they’ve done a really good job at establishing how human he is. Yeah. I feel like 
    he wouldn’t be able to just like start walking   right now. What about the Riddler? He’s going to 
    kill again. It’s all connected. Like it or not, it’s his game now. I want to find Riddler. We 
    got to find that route. It’s an interesting   mystery they’ve done because the mystery itself 
    you have to like really pay attention to or else you might lose sight of the plot, right? I’m like, 
    wait a minute. What are they got to bring down, right? And then he reveals where he is. But before 
    you know it, they’re they’re not even really   uncovering the mystery. They’re just Well, they’re 
    following a false lead. They they messed up and they follow that. They are just in Riddler’s 
    hands. And then Riddler’s so disappointed,   which I love. I love that this building is uh 
    part of the renewal project. They establish like renewal being corrupt throughout. And like even 
    this building, which is a hub, it says renewal on   it. That’s a drug lab. This is a pie. Looks like 
    they got Moron’s operation up and running again. Why they never shut it down at all. Biggest 
    drug bust in GCPD history was a fraud. Damn,   you’re so right about the eyes. They do seem like 
    they intentionally lit the white in them. It’s so impressive. Color correction, lighting, emotion. 
    It is everything you want out of the animated,   but with the emotion of live action. It is. 
    It is. His eyeball acting is sensational cuz these shots are so dark, but his eyes pop. 
    Yeah, cuz it makes it feel like Batman. Hey, you all right? It’s also so impressive 
    this movie has Catwoman, Penguin, Tweedled D, Tweedle Dumb, and Riddler, and doesn’t feel 
    oversted. It’s got like as many villains as   Batman and Robin. Well, they’re also it also 
    feels like they’re playing the long game with them. Yeah. It doesn’t feel like, oh, we need to 
    tell like their whole complete story here in this   one movie, right? That’s how Falcone and Moron’s 
    backstory works. And Falcone can be in Penguin. Jesus. She had actual concern for him there. This is 
    a really good chaotic firefight. Yeah. the when   it turns into a mob movie, it’s just as good as 
    when it’s noir. Hey, I love the body language he uses with the gun. Just like the flipping 
    Yeah, the bravado of him is incredible. [Applause] Oh, this scene so badass. Yeah, Bad Res always had a 
    reward. Really? I got chills. I got chills. Man, that first shot of Penguin we 
    got in the trailer and no one even   registered as Colin Frell. I remember 
    people thought I was lying. People were like mad in our comments and I was 
    like, “Yeah, Colin Frell’s penguin.” [Music] Sick mob scene into a car chase. 
    Matt Reeves does it all. Renewal. There’s that that yellow lighting and 
    with the Batman score coming in. God, that’s beautiful. It’s cool. You didn’t like 
    see him travel at all in this car throughout the   whole movie. We just saw it under wraps in 
    the cave. We went from bike to car for once. Come on. Come on. I love Colin Frell’s performance 
    here. He’s enjoying kind of the thrill ride of it, you know? I love the camera choice of like 
    being on Penguin being chased. Like the   language of this whole chase is so interesting. I 
    I appreciate his excitement at it. Yeah. I mean, you see how he became the scene stealer of 
    the movie. Like all of this is so dynamic. Oh, such a great shot. Go through 
    the cracked window to see him. What a beast. Wow. To do this all on wet ground is so much 
    riskier. These stunt drivers are amazing. Also, the emotional connection to that car we get 
    because of the Penguin Show. Like that’s the car.   Yeah. Yeah. Give a call. Like the purple Maserati 
    becomes a character in the next thing. This is crazy like how most of this chase is from Penguins 
    POV. We’re with the chase, not the chaser. Some of these cars have to be digital, right? 
    Like I don’t know how they did this. Some some of   them have to be. It looks damn good, man. I love 
    that this chase involves traffic. Yes, I know, right? Like this is an actual thing in Gotham. 
    One of the things that bothers me movies is like what happened to all the traffic and like there’s 
    a roadblock of trucks cuz that’s the highway. I   remember Matrix Reloaded was so cool cuz they 
    built that highway and it actually felt real. What a gamble. This is the first time you ever really see 
    Batman having a struggle in the Batmobile. Yeah, problem. The level of destruction in 
    this car chase. I got you. Take that, you freaking psycho. I got you. Love 
    how they kept that all in his POV. like a bat out of hell. I love the choice to have so much 
    of the shots on the cars. Yeah,   like locked off cameras on the cars. So, I 
    said before that’s the same car. Clearly, it’s not the same car, but he buys the 
    same purple Maserati for the penguin. And I love that this shot was an accident. 
    Like so like this kind of magic coming out   of filming something and then having 
    him look like a bat as he walks up. Damn. The the sound of the boots are a character 
    upon themselves. Every introduction the sound   design of the boots. It almost has a western 
    like cowboy coming into town. Yeah. Coming to collect. Even his eyes there. You don’t just 
    work for Kaiwan. You work for them too. That why you killed a girl. I didn’t kill no girl. 
    We know she worked for you at the 44 Below,   but you got too close, right? Found out from 
    Mitchell that you were the rat, so you killed her. Batman’s called Dark Detective. And I I don’t 
    really feel like any of the other ones feel like detective movies. I love the Nolan movies, but 
    they don’t feel they’re adventure movies. Yeah,   this is a detective noir. Shoeachers 
    are action movies. Timbert movies are are whimsical. Dark and whimsical. This is 
    a noir. You rat. Ela. Yeah. Rat with wings, a stool pigeon. That’s not you. The symbols in 
    the maze. I love all this good cut bad cop is all them putting together something that isn’t true. 
    It’s like the worst Spanish I ever heard. It’s   la law. What is this riddler stupid or something? 
    Look at you two world’s greatest detectives. Yes. Am I the only one here knows the difference 
    between Alan L. No espanol. Do me a favor,   [ __ ] Shut up. And I love that that ties into 
    Bruce Wayne’s arrogance, but also Batman not being among the people. Like the same with the carpet 
    thing. Like he’s not he wouldn’t have spoken it. Holy [ __ ] He’s even trying to speak the language. The hell does that mean? His ear, isn’t he? 
    And you can feel here how he’s trying to like be friends. Like you feel the the trying 
    to get Batman to be like with him. [Music] I don’t remember a lot of the specifics, honestly. 
    Tough as a weed, but in a mansion, in a slum. I’ll never know where I come from. Do you know what 
    I am? Any idea? There’s an orphan. That would be the only one I’ll be able to put together. That’s 
    the one. It’s too obvious. He’s talking about the   old orphanage. One that burned down. It was part 
    of the Wayne estate. They donated it. Actually, they built a tower. Let’s go. Also a fun blade 
    to pay at the Wayne myth. The penguin waddle is so good. They shot all that with the laptop so 
    close up that it seemed like they moved locations and then the reveal of the funny rig. Yeah. Alfred 
    still pines for the Wayne legacy to be something that is in the limelight and he’s not connect. 
    He doesn’t feel that connection. Like usually   Batman takes place in Wayne Manor. We see Wayne 
    Manor as broken. That’s why I think the second movie is going to be so rebuilding of Bruce Wayne. 
    rebuilding Wayne Manor, rebuilding of the legacy,   him becoming Bruce Wayne. Like, I really 
    feel like that’s the next step. Yeah, because the more we explore Gotham in here, the 
    more the Wayne legacy just seems degregated. [Applause] Thank you. It’s funny cuz Dark Knight 
    Rises ends with him setting up the Wayne Manor for the as the orphanage and this movie takes place 
    after the fall of the orphanage. And that’s why   I’m here today to announce not only my candidacy 
    mayor, but also the creation of the Gotham Renewal Fund. The Wayne Foundation pledges a $1 billion. 
    What a haunting shot. God, just a bat shadow with the looming legacy of Thomas White. Like 
    these children, sins of the planting seeds. I love how this movie addresses the biggest 
    question people have is like why doesn’t Batman   put his money towards fixing Gotham instead 
    of and this movie just makes that an entire Bplot. Jesus’s next victim is Bruce Wayne. And 
    the first time we see Batman disappear, [Music] just the struggle in his voice. No, just the 
    struggle of the face. No actual audio of that. This use of time. I need to speak to Alfred. 
    Dwayne, listen to me. Something terrible is going to happen. I’m afraid it already 
    has. Sir, then the reveal. Oh, what a shot. MI6. Yep. The package was intended for you. 
    There’s a C4 explosive sent in the mailor. We found this, too. Fireproof envelope. 
    This whole time he acts like he doesn’t care about Alfred, but you see in that 
    moment how much he cared about Alfred. I love how well they set up that 
    you think that Riddler knows he’s   Batman and then that whole dynamic of 
    interrogation like the opposite of the Joker and Batman interrogation in Dark 
    Knight cuz it’s like a mislead. [Music] Do you think he’ll buff up more for the 
    next one? I don’t know. I I feel like   they’re playing the detective Neil Adams 
    thing. I don’t know. I think they’ll make the DCU Batman jacked and keep him like this. 
    So, there is a difference of feeling. I think   this one feels so real and like he moves 
    so well and then the other one can be like uh big boy. Not Alan Richardson huge, but 
    like I mean, yeah, they they emphasize he can fight fast and and speed of a punch and 
    kick creates a lot of pounds. Yeah, he’s an efficient fighter. I think we’ll have more of a a 
    jacked Batman to stand side to side with Superman. Like he’s got that body type where you you could 
    see a six-pack in like really good lighting. Yeah, he’s like 12% body fat. He’s like relatable 
    athletic level. He’s got triceps there. He worked his delts. He’s like me when I’m not 
    bloated, but still better shape when I’m not shape. So that’s a volume. That’s a volume, dude. 
    Damn. The confidence to use it like that, too. And it was one of the first movies to do it straight 
    on. Look at that shot. It’s my phone background.   Wasn’t sure I’d see you again. Yeah, look at it. 
    Getting a little hot for me. So, it’s hard to have the helicopter in the background, too. Now I’m 
    just looking at the background, dude, because   it’s stunning. Not even paying attention to the 
    characters. It’s lit perfectly. The sunrise, it’s so good. I also like symbolically how the 
    sun is rising on Batman. We don’t see him in   the daytime a lot, but this is him realizing like 
    vengeance might not be the answer. And that is the third act. I notice there’s like a like a bit of 
    a snarl, like a disgust delivery. Like this like Well, he’s condescending. Walking Phoenix kind of 
    does like cond Yeah, this like upper corner lip thing. I want to know why a guy like Falcone would 
    owe you anything. because he’s my father. But he’s   hitting on you. It’s very creepy about you. Does 
    he know? No, it’s way worse. Pretty sure he wants to sleep with you. It’s uh really real gross. 
    I love how this ties into Sophia Falconee and   everything in Penguin 2. Then one night, my mother 
    told me who he was. When I was seven, my mother was murdered, strangled, never found out who. Then 
    you find out that’s a thing he does. It’s kind of   a kind of his whole thing. Anyway, social services 
    came to take me away and he didn’t say a thing. Everyone read Long Halloween and When in 
    Rome. I haven’t read When in Rome. Yeah,   the pseudo sequel. It’s a Catwoman story. Sam and 
    Jeff Lo. Never read that one. Real good. Maybe we’re not so different after all. Who are you over 
    there? Someone who could take care of your bills. Are you just This is straight out of Tom 
    King and Clayman’s Batcat series. Like   the lighting and all this, especially when 
    it goes to the wide, but it’s on a beach, not a building. Now Thomas and Bruce 
    Wayne. I mean, as far as I’m concerned,   that psycho’s right to go after these 
    creeps. I think you’d be on his side. Just when I was about to take off my mask. 
    If I can find that bag, Kenzie, will you help me? Just don’t make any moves without me. 
    Understand? Still more dangerous than he know. What a shot. And then she makes the first move. 
    I told you, baby, I can take care of myself. cinema. I need a tighter suit to hold down my 
    erection. My Wayne is bruising out of this bad suit and I approve this message. One of my 
    favorite jokes of the movie is after his kid makes out with Catwoman. I’m Thomas Wayne and 
    I approve this message. From a very young age,   we never see the makeup instilled in both of 
    us that giving back is not just an obligation, it’s a passion. That is our family’s legacy. I 
    love how they date this too. like 2001 archive footage and they set this now 20 years ago. 
    One reporter set out to Edward Elliot is hush. Shocking family secrets. The child her mother 
    brutally murdered her father then committed suicide and how the God I don’t remember any of 
    this actually. They didn’t want anyone to know. Thomas Swain tried to force this crusading 
    reporter into a hush money agreement to save   his mayoral campaign. Hush. What a tease. Yeah, I 
    just totally forgot that. I mean, Elliot and that is a big thing. I think you know Riddler’s editing 
    skills are very overlooked. He really just created a true crime documentary here. You should tell 
    Prepper to follow the lead of the Riddler here.   And it adds an interesting layer to the way how he 
    plays Bruce Wayne with the indication that Martha had like mental health conditions and he plays and 
    he probably does. Yeah. Like hereditary. I also love that you know who I am Batman did earlier. 
    And now Bruce Wayne and there’s the same like I   love that use of Batman Bruce Wayne. This also 
    shows where Bruce Wayne can get access to things the way how Batman can’t. I’ve never read any 
    of the comics where the Arkhams are people. I don’t think of that as being a common thing to be 
    honest. There is backstory with Arkham family but it it’s pretty convoluted. A lot of movies would 
    have ended like a half hour ago from now or like   20 minutes ago. Yeah. A lot of this is like a lot 
    of third act. I feel like it’s all third act from that uh rooftop scene. Yeah. Like after the car 
    chase scene, like I feel like the sun is rising on the third act of the film. Everybody’s got their 
    dirty laundry. That’s just how it is. But he don’t   want none of it coming out. Not right before the 
    election. Your father tried to pay the guy off, but he wasn’t going for it. I love Turo’s delivery 
    cuz he he uses this softness to evoke some type of sensitivity or tenderness, but he keeps the 
    malice. It’s just manipulating enough. Yeah, it’s interesting to see like playing with the 
    Wayne legacy how people didn’t revolt against   the idea of like the Wayne’s being problematic, 
    but when you do the Joker came out already, you do it in Superman, everybody’s like 
    Jorel couldn’t possibly. But you think   of people as loving Batman so much and like 
    they’re playing around with lore here. Well, if they made Jorel a billionaire, we’d be able 
    to accept him. That’s true. We can hate him then.   Yeah. Different story. South Moroni got my father 
    killed. Do I know it for a fact? I’m just saying it sure looked that way to me. This is what you 
    wanted, huh? It’s been a long time coming, huh? I mean, ain’t a kid no more. It’s crazy how 
    good Robert Patson is as an actor and because of Twilight, people don’t like he’s so talented 
    and the Rover and Mickey 17 everything has proved that. But I feel like the the Twilight looms 
    so heavy because when he was cast, I thought   he was gonna be perfect, but everybody was like, 
    “Oh, the vampire.” But like he’s so enigmatic. I think people who really follow film know though. 
    That’s fair. Like if you’re just pop culture,   you might not. But he’s an actor. Yeah. Especially 
    if you’re doing stuff like Good Boy. Good times. Good times. Good boy. He’s a good dog. He’s a good 
    dog. What a good dog in that movie. Should get an Oscar. For me, it was the Rover when he like did 
    circles around Guy Pierce who was incredible. Like Guy Pierce is such a good actor in the Rover. He 
    was sensational. You lied to me. What a dick. My whole life. Now you’re awake. Alfred smiles at 
    him warmly. You lied to me. I spoke to Carmine Falcone. He told me what he did for my father. 
    I love how manif is and how Alfred had reason to not tell him, but how easily he tells him the 
    truth. Like what actually happened and how Yeah, he made a mistake. Mistake. Get a man killed. Why? 
    It’s the most human we ever see Thomas and Martha Wayne in any of it. They don’t stay this perfect 
    archetype. And that that is also kind of similar   to what they do in Superman. And yeah, he didn’t 
    have anyone killed, but like he was involved after he saved Maron Falcone’s life. He cared about her 
    and you and in a moment of weakness, he turned to Falonee. That’s so human. I love that we never 
    meet Thomas Wayne, but that is such a human thing   to do. It doesn’t make him a bad person, but he 
    made a mistake. Well, the movie also comments on like narrative manipulation. I mean, it’s a 
    POV movie, but it’s not unreliable narrator,   but it does mislead you as an audience. He 
    told Falconee he was going to the police, that he’d confess everything, and that night your 
    father and your mother were killed. I love giving a possible reason for that happening, but not 
    spelling it out like it had to be that. Like,   it still could be the Monarch Theater a thug, but 
    it also could have been someone hired. And that that’s such a fun way to play with lore. He could 
    still be Batman because he thought it was a common   thug. Yeah. But I feel like for whatever Matt 
    Reeves is building up, it’s stronger if there’s a bigger purpose to why they were killed. And that’s 
    why I think Court of Os is next. Yeah. Yeah.   Exactly. Because it’s all about legacy in history 
    of Gotham. And you could call the next one like Bruce Wayne the Batman. You know, like the subtext 
    could be that it’s a Bruce Wayne rising story.   It’s commentary is not evergreen. Yeah. In two 
    years. When we’re wrong. When we’re just wrong. It’s a Joker movie. like we’re just wrong. No, 
    Matt reasons that it’s New Village. Actually, this will be a fun commentary to watch after 
    we’ve seen The Batman 2. I never thought I’d feel fear like that again. I thought I’d 
    mastered all that. He hated the feeling of fear. I’m not afraid to die, but I realize 
    now there’s something I haven’t got past. This fear of ever going through any of that again. 
    That’s what you’re really running away from,   man. Losing somebody I care about. It’s true. He 
    played it afraid when he was on his way to Alfred. I maintain this movie is well worth waiting 5 
    years for a sequel. It also boldly does nothing to establish why bats. Holy [ __ ] At one point 
    do they explain do the thing with bats. They Yeah, there’s no reason to explain why he does the bats. 
    Like five or six movies have Yeah. No pearls, no bats. It’s like we go over the history of like 
    what happened with his parents in this. It’s a part that permeates throughout the experience. 
    I’ve never noticed a lack of bats. But no one has   explained why is he dressed like a bat. She’s not 
    a Batman. Yeah, you’re totally right. [Applause] What are you doing? I’m sorry, Mr. All of this 
    is such a crime noir subplot, too. They really let you have multiple narratives going for 
    one big case. Well, it makes the argument that Riddler’s right. Oh, completely. Yeah. That’s 
    why I love that they start off on Riddler’s POV, lit on his literal POV, because they are slowly 
    conforming. Not conforming, but diving into the way he sees the world and everyone’s beginning 
    to see the world he sees the world. Yeah. [Music] Yeah. Oh, and then to go from the one scene 
    where he was just saying like the fear of losing someone you love, then he looks right 
    into her eyes as she’s expering the audio of losing someone she loves. The direction. Yeah. 
    Falone works for you guys. The mayor, the DA, the scratches on his face subtly mirroring the 
    the scratches on Falcone’s face that are from earlier. Everybody does. For renewal, renewal is 
    everything. The renewal fund. Yeah. Just keeps getting worse for Bruce. Yeah. Oh, my family. 
    The mayor, Fol, Moroni, everyone got in on it. Was perfect for making bribes, laundering money. 
    A billion dollars a year. Sustained his father’s legacy. Funding every criminal enterprise with 
    charity is so messed up. You think this goddamn election matters? [ __ ] Holmes, mayor. He’s 
    been the man for the last 20 years. Come on,   Vengeance. I love Vengeance as a pet name. 
    Don’t throw your life away. I got nine of them. It’s okay, man. You’re out of volume. None of this 
    is a wall of light right there. I got to do this my way. We do what they’re said. Bring the rat 
    into the light. I love how it saves its comicky moments, but when it does them, man, it’s so cool. 
    I’ll be honest, I never quite really registered   how great her performance is in this. It’s one of 
    those things that people had always raved about, but I never fully latched on to it. And 
    it’s this time around where I’m getting   it. It’s like she’s just been waiting for an 
    excuse to kill her dad this whole time. Oh, and bubbling up again. Yeah. Like, okay, now 
    now I have it. I can say this is why. I can blame you cuz she’s known in some way. Yeah. 
    But she’s wanted to kill him for a long time. Yes. One of my favorite details is that he 
    doesn’t even look for the guy to land. He like   turns around before he’s even hit the ground. He 
    knows. I know that you’re a very important man. I was hoping that maybe you could help me find 
    her because she’s she’s been gone so long. I’m   beginning to They frame this so well to make it so 
    uncomfortable. Her position and his and and this whole sequence, her playing that she doesn’t have 
    power is so smart. Hey, didn’t I tell you? Sorry,   Mr. Falcone. I really think you’re going to want 
    to see this. I’m sorry, beautiful. I’ll be right back. So creepy. Tell me the deal with you. Oh, 
    he told you about that deal. He said, “Yeah, man. Rther’s just another vigilante.” Yeah. And looks 
    up to Batman. I love how he’s able to disappear for like such long chunks of the movie and all of 
    his minations do the work for him. Hey, Dad. What? I’m Maria Kyle’s kid. You remember her? Yeah. 
    Just put down the gun, huh? This is for my mother. Did she miss on purpose? I think 
    he cut the power right as so the   lights went out. I feel like she shot 
    before the fire the lights went out. I don’t know. I can think about things like that. Oh, I love this shot. I I forget about 
    all the action scenes in this movie for some reason. It’s so interesting what 
    you remember and what you don’t. Well,   is I forget. Oh yeah, this action moment’s 
    about to happen. But the use of the machine gun for lighting is so cool. Look at 
    that. Oh yeah, I remember we saw us in the trailer the first time. Oh, I love it 
    so much. Boom. Boom. Just Gio score and that One of the few moments I remember 
    from War for the Planet of the Apes   is when they had Caesar uh fighting 
    guards in a tunnel like that. Oh, he did have that shot in there. 
    I remember seeing that going,   “This guy’s going to make a good Batman movie.” 
    I didn’t watch that exact thought. I remember thinking the AE trilogy is like one of the great 
    trilogies, but I don’t remember them very well. [Music] God damn. You don’t think 
    this hurts me? My own flesing blood. And the first time you hear a cat scratch, 
    you made me do this just like your mother. He has to pay. It’s cool. He took 
    time to change. He just took his   jacket off. He’s not Batman. You paid enough. I think he literally turned the power off and 
    was like, “Okay, it’s night time. I’m Batman.”   I love that line. You paid enough. I love them. 
    Like, they do such a good job establishing them. The starcross lovers really works. This 
    trifecta, too. They’re Riddler, Batman,   Catwoman are all orphans. Yeah, it’s their it’s 
    their Gordon Dent Batman in the in this trilogy, I think. And they’re all Hope we get a 
    trilogy. All vengeance. Yeah. I’m going   to start crying and all of a sudden some big 
    secrets coming out. Let me tell you something. It’s all going with me. What are you with 
    Zoro over here? That’s fun cuz he’s based off Zoro and that’s a movie he watched in the 
    theater a lot of the can canon continuity. I guess we don’t all work for you. 
    Bring the rat into the light. Look at that volume. All those cows are 
    fake. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will 
    be used against you in a court of law.   You have the right to an attorney. Harvey. 
    Actually, that’s an interesting point. They did kill the DA in this movie. Opening up 
    the door for Harvey Dent in the next one.   Goddamn rat. What’ you say? Enjoy your night at 
    Black Gate Comine. Probably be your last. To me, you always just a [ __ ] in an empty suit. I’ll 
    straight paint your ass. The What are you doing? Shoot. The boldness to pull out his gun in front 
    of all those. Yeah. I love how audacious Oz is. [Music] What a conflicting feeling. You’ll find 
    where I’m at. You should keep him up there. And now it gets even more David Finchery. [Music] Even the hotel sign was lit green. I love that shot when he watches Falonee die. 
    There’s so many ways to like interpret it. Yeah. The acting and all the expressions. 
    It’s like 10 expressions on his face. Is   it a catharsis and watching him die? 
    Did he think he would get a relief? Is it somewhat a reminder of his parents? 
    Like, you know, everything is Yeah. Is he   judging himself for wanting Tim to die? 
    Does he feel? Yeah. Such a good shot. This definitely feels like an actor’s 
    Batman. Like there’s so much great   acting that is being done. I feel like 
    his and Bales are some of the best acting. I really feel like when Bale started 
    putting on the suit in the latter two,   he started losing some of the depth. Yeah, 
    it is interesting watching this after scenes. The interrogation scene with Joker is still 
    [ __ ] brilliant, but it did seem like this. This Batman begins. I think he [ __ ] kills 
    it in the back. Bruce Wayne’s so good in all   of them. Yeah, it is. We got a witness here. 
    So she saw someone come down the fire escape right after the shot. She said he went into the 
    corner. Now you know the guy sitting by himself   at the counter right now. That shot that’s like 
    there’s a painting. I forget what it’s called, but like that’s Yeah, I’ve seen that. 
    But it’s from the other direction. Yeah,   it’s the it’s the flip. Please hands up. This is 
    a rare case where they they had this scene in the trailer and it didn’t ruin it. It didn’t ruin it 
    cuz I I I’m so I was so engrossed in the movie that I forgot this is supposed to happen. 
    And you forget you’ve seen Dano’s face for   six months of marketing. Yeah. apparently. And I 
    don’t know if this is correct, but those are the same glasses that Edward Ningmo wears in Batman 
    Forever. And that was a nod to Jim Car’s Riddler. Stay still. Man, he’s so unhinged. He 
    does such a good job here. [Music] Oh, what a beautiful shot. Which one 
    is you? You tell me. Let’s go pick some neck. He did a really good job with that. Yeah, he’s 
    probably barista before he was an accountant   in the criminal mastermind. Was that in the 
    comic? Yeah, it’s really it’s a good comic. I keep forgetting it’s not in the movie. He’s got 
    thousands. He scrolled all over rambling ciphers codes. Got something back on one of the ideas. 
    Be a good comic. There’s a lot of backstory here. You really okay with this? What about chain of 
    evidence? You should see this. He’s got gloves. This ignores cops. He’s wearing gloves. I forgot 
    they did. Friday, July 16th. My life has been a cruel riddle I could not solve. Suffocating my 
    mind. No escape. Legit, all of this has backstory. Every line of this is is from the comic. That’s 
    so cool. If you want people to understand, really understand, you can’t just give them the answers, 
    you have to confront them. Orphans wronged by society. I don’t think that rat likes you, man. 
    This one’s not a rat. [Music] What is it? [Music] Did they train that bat? Is it CGI? How’d they do 
    this shot? My confession. What’s he confessing to? He already told us he killed Mitchell. He’s 
    just a big Usher fan. Final post was last night. Some video got a lot of views, but it’s 
    password protected. To me, this is one of the   most terrifying things because the whole movie is 
    so grounded and real, and then they make him this kind of villain, which is so like modern-day 
    school shooter and and outsider that doesn’t trust the system and fears it. Yeah. Nowadays, 
    Joe Riddler would be a popular podcaster. Oh, he’d be killing it. Pun intended. I think I 
    last you. Maybe this is all coming to an end. I love how he would infer that. This is so good. 
    The Batman. It’s the first time he said Batman, right? And he said the Batman. Yeah, cuz yeah, 
    they’ve called him vengeance a lot, but I don’t   think he said Batman yet. Riddler’s asking for you 
    at Arkham. The resolve here. You’re a good cop. H interesting way to say goodbye. I told you I’d see 
    you in hell. What do you want from me? What? Oh, if only you knew how long I’ve been waiting for 
    this day, for this moment. Every line of dialogue suits both of their thoughts of what this scene 
    is. Such a good play in the interrogation scene.   They’ll remember me now. They’ll remember both 
    of us. That is a good commentary on real life, man. Not a crime that’s invoked now. 
    All to get some attention. Bruce Wayne. Bruce Wayne. I was like, how are they doing this in the 
    first movie? Well, a week later he was dead and everybody just forgot about us. All they could 
    talk about was poor Bruce Wayne. He’s so focused on being Batman. He’s ignored his Wayne lineage 
    this entire time. But this actually is so much   more about Bruce Wayne than the movie lets on. 
    Looking down on everyone with all that money. Don’t you tell me. Do you know what being an 
    orphan is? There’s 30 kids to a room. It’s almost like he’s being told he can’t even feel sad 
    for his loss. Yeah. And every winter, one of the babies die because it’s so cold. Let’s talk about 
    the billionaire with the lying dead daddy. Because at least the money makes it go down easy, doesn’t 
    it? His origin is so well written. Power of envy. You and I both know I’m looking at the real 
    you right now. My mask allowed me to be myself completely. A mask can be so misleading. I’m not 
    physical. My strength is up here. I mean, I so delusional. It’s interesting watching this after 
    the Arkham episode of Penguin cuz that jumpsuit has so much more power to it now, like knowing 
    what’s behind those doors. And a little focused   violence. You inspired me. Out of your goddamn 
    mind. Mhm. This is all in your head. You’re sick. And then going to the beginning part of the movie 
    where he was like, “Am I making a difference? It’s   been 2 years and everything’s worse.” And then 
    this is how he’s making a difference. Yeah. No, this is not how this was supposed to go. Such 
    good delivery. We were going to be safe here. We could watch the whole thing together. 
    Watch what? My lover. Like he’s possibly responsible for the birth of this man. And 
    now the realization he’s not as far ahead   of him as he thought he was. And then we 
    get into a full-on like emmerick epic up at the end. What have you done? What’s black 
    and blue and dead all over? Mhm. What have you done? [Music] Like there’s like nothing 
    flattering about his Riddler. Nothing. And the boyishness of his face allows this performance 
    to be so menacing and terrifying. And o [Music] feel like his Arkham is so like 
    ripe for like a third movie to be   an Arkham movie. Hey, what are you doing in here? doesn’t even give first response. I love the like 
    slow acceptance of like [ __ ] this Batman just do stuff. He’s just being Batman. Boy, this 
    guy’s a real nut job. Killing with a freaking carpet tool. Oh, my uncle’s a It’s a a Tucker. 
    I’ve actually installed carpet with my grandpa, so I knew that Batman. It’s the one thing I 
    would have gotten. You billionaires. Not of the   people. I mean, doesn’t speak Spanish. doesn’t 
    install carpets. I didn’t grow up with money, but I would have no idea what that 
    is. I can’t even change a tire. Oh,   I wouldn’t install carpet. 
    Well, I know what it is. And it’s a green carpet. I love how 
    there was all those cops and not one   of them could tell them what it was. 
    And they even said things it might be. [Music] A Maria. Is she like the patron saint 
    of floods or something? I’m wondering. I could look it up on my phone. I keep 
    thinking about it. I’m sure it’s deep. Hey guys, thanks for all the comments and uh   a special thanks to everyone 
    for the tips on detonators. This will be my last post for a little 
    while. And uh reading all that is so scary cuz that’s internet at times. Tomorrow’s 
    election day [Laughter] and Bell Royale will win. He doesn’t mask his voice for them though. 
    Yeah. Yeah. It’s just him and that’s his face. I’ve parked seven vans all along 
    in a city seaw wall. They will go. Batman never solves anything like to get ahead. 
    Riddler’s been ahead of him the whole movie. He   like practically loses this entire film and he 
    loses Gotham in so many ways. When the vans blow, the flooding will happen so fast 
    evacuation will not be an option. What a beautiful shot. Yeah. Through the streets 
    and terror. Like it’s such a patient movie. And then then this is like apocalyptic. Gotham 
    Square Garden celebrations will turn to panic as the venue becomes the city’s shelter of 
    last resort. And then the kill box that they turn the garden into is so terrifying. For all of 
    you, Colleen, weaponizing followers. Yep. It is crazy how horrifying the internet has made people 
    that this and Superman in a comedic way have to   address the weaponization of people anonymously 
    on the internet. You know, [ __ ] like this would seem far-fetched at one point in a movie. 
    Yeah. Like 10 years ago and now it or 15 maybe.   But now it’s I remember when this first came out, 
    some people were contending towards this finale, thinking it was unrealistic. It’s like they 
    thought it might have been a little too much.   I feel like this and Mysterio and Spider-Man are 
    the two most like topical villains. We’ve spent our lives in this wretched place suffering, 
    wondering why us. Now they will spend their last moments wondering why. It is so eerie. Yeah, 
    it really is so [ __ ] eerie. That’s smart. Yeah. Like Dark Knight is Chicago. This is more New 
    York. New York is an island. They establish that this like Gotham is an island. So, it makes the 
    flooding more real and palpable. And I’ve always   thought of Gotham as like a water-based 
    city cuz all the bridges, no man’s land. Is Chicago an island? I don’t know anything 
    about Chicago. I think it’s water adjacent,   but New York’s definitely the island. View New 
    York like an island. Yeah, we just revealed our ignorance. I’m like, Chicago is in Illinois. If 
    we don’t close the doors, we’re going to have huge problems. The water’s already starting to breathe. 
    I thought this was a shelter of last resort. Yeah,   for a hurricane. But not if the whole seaw wall 
    comes down. I am not going to let those people die out there. That poor kid has seen so much here. 
    We need to get you out, Miss Real. I’m not going anywhere. We’re under attack, man. Exactly. 
    That’s the problem with this city. Everyone’s   afraid to stand up and do the right thing, but 
    I’m not. Excuse me. Nah, you know, there’s a Batman doing a lot. He’s He’s trying. He’s doing 
    his best. Please, I just need your attention. Yeah, it’s [ __ ] like this 
    that it feels like graphic   violence cuz it’s so real. Yeah, 
    this is one of my biggest fears. So awesome. I forgot about this. That’s 
    so cool. Wow. What an amazing shot, too. Oh, here’s the gun. defensively. I love how this Batman fights so much. Batman killing shooters. 
    Peacemaker fighting Nazis. [Music] I definitely buy his level of strength 
    in this one, which I also like. This   is a really hard video game level. It’s 
    the end of game one. It’s got to be hard. The ticking clock of the flooding is such 
    smart tension. I do really like Jeffrey um Jeffrey Ryord. Jeffrey Gordon. Yeah. Like he’s 
    so act I love how he gets involved to help with   the fight. like when when he’s being shot at 
    by Penguin, he he drives his car up to start shooting after them. He sees bad man’s in danger. 
    He wants to get up there to help fight [Applause] Shadows. Oh, that Geiocino score, man. Literally 
    using the weapons against them and this rage. Oh, that would hurt so bad. Hey, [Music] we’ve 
    seen him survive a lot of crazy [ __ ] in his shotgun in the chest. I mean, he he crashed into 
    that bridge when he was free falling. That’s true. Got up, walked away cuz the suit’s 
    bulletproof, so he can handle it. [Music] Woo! She is very strong, man. It’s crazy how like much 
    I can forget. I totally don’t recall Catwoman was saving three years ago. It’s so wild. Did you only 
    see this once in theaters? No, I saw it twice. No, I saw it like three times. Yeah, I was going to 
    say I thought we talked about it a lot. It’s okay. It’s okay. It’s done now. You know when I see 
    like actors do like interviews and they’re like, “I don’t remember filming this. I remember that.” 
    Like at that point in my life like so many movies,   I’m like, “What? I don’t remember this 
    at all.” A lot of data, a lot of content. Every frame of this movie. Yeah. I love 
    the complication they strike with her. She never really becomes like a full-blown 
    hero, but the way they’ve done the way they’ve   established their relationship, how they’ve 
    grown that as just Batman and Catwoman, it’s like literally just Batman and Catwoman. 
    It’s not Bruce and Selena. Yeah. Nothing about   them as people. And then to his earlier point 
    of not wanting to see someone he loves die, not I don’t know if he’s in love 
    with her, but out of protecting And this going too far is so effective for   the third last beat of this third 
    act. Take it easy. Take it easy. I love it. It’s weird. It’s like Christian 
    Bale became mocked for the but when he does it, there’s a genuine like feral animal 
    that like comes out of him that you   save it for this in a few moments. 
    Yeah. It’s not growling all the time, right? But when he does it, it’s like, yeah, 
    like, holy [ __ ] get away. Get away. And like,   what happens when he goes too far? And and I 
    don’t think the vengeance to hope line would have worked without this little sequence. 
    And even Gordon seeing what happens when he goes too far. Good thing Gordon got there. Just 
    enough to tell Batman to stop. I’m vengeance. Yeah. Oh man, I never put together that. 
    It’s almost like a book end of what he was saying in his monologue at the beginning 
    is what he’s inspiring and even Riddler   and then Yeah. And that’s why the second 
    one has to be such a different movie and I’m so curious what it does. Well, this is the 
    benefit of doing like commentaries is because we’re talking things out loud, I can process 
    and catch things that I didn’t catch before.   It’s like we can’t do this in a reaction at 
    all. I can’t do it in the feed writer. Like it’s it’s selfishly beneficial for me to Oh, 
    totally. And I’m excited to watch like smart   movies so we can like piece together new stuff and 
    details. That’s a horrifying moment right there. And the immediacy of his leap. 
    Not even a second thought. That’s the first time we see 
    him actively going out of his   way to save the sacrificial shot with those eyes. And like red evokes and I know it’s like the 
    police color lights, but red evokes violence.   Blue evokes like protection and warmth and 
    like the bleeding of it all coming together cuz there’s been so much red in the scenes. 
    You’re right. And then like the blue elements   in because the cop Yeah. And I think the light 
    the movie ends kind of blue cuz the the frozen water and stuff that I thought was alluding 
    towards uh Mr. Freeze, but it ends pretty blue. And it recontextualizes the red right now cuz 
    it’s a beacon of hope for the first time. Yeah, that is so neat. He like took 
    power. He took the red with him. [Music] What a Batman shot. 
    What a beautiful moment. [Music] I love it. He’s leading them out. 
    What a shot. My god, this movie and now the people follow him. Greg Frasier, 
    such a genius. Look at that volume. Not a single building insane. The city is underwater. A poor 
    dog. Martial law is in effect, but the criminal element never sleeps. Looting and lawlessness will 
    be rampant in the parts of the city no one can get to. The opening shot of Penguin. Yeah. Things will 
    get worse before they get better. And some will seize the chance to grab everything they can. We 
    must rebuild people’s faith in our institutions.   Look at the focus. Yeah, right. I was just 
    thinking that like everyone’s out of focus, but they you see them two as the primary focus. 
    Oh man. Vengeance won’t change the past. Mine or anyone else’s. I have to become more. Damn. This 
    is a real [ __ ] film. It really is. I think this is my favorite Batman movie. Oh [ __ ] I think 
    this dethroned the Dark Knight today. The city’s angry. Scarred like me. Our scars can destroy 
    us. Even after the physical wounds have healed, but if we survive them, they can transform 
    us. They can give us the power. Boy, what is it they say? One day you’re on top, the 
    next you’re a clown. Yeah, it’s very not subtle dialogue. It’s just so like they they did like, 
    you know, the the Joker, the Scott Snider Joker,   the the Mr. Joe kind of thing, but like it’s 
    tonally so different than the rest of the movie. You did so well. I think this was meant 
    to be a postredit cuz it even feels like one. I It’s odd to not have some credits to give us 
    some distance to it. Gotham loves a comeback story. [Music] I wonder if they were worried about 
    the runtime with a postredit. Who are you? Well, that’s the question. I think if it’s a postredit 
    it it it cements it as Joker will be the villain in the next one. Ah, that’s a good point in the 
    Marvel sense for sure. But Joker has to come back.   You can’t just put him in here. I mean, have you 
    seen the interrogation scene? Like that’s Yeah, I’d like him as a third villain cuz they establish 
    that he’s like got a history with Batman over the   two years. Now, this does feel like a little bit 
    like a YouTube video. Yeah. Feels like a fanfill. And it’s so like tonally different. Yeah, but 
    the interrogation scene to me doesn’t. You’re leaving. Jesus, but this has a last scene I love 
    a lot. Where will you go? I don’t know. Upstate, Blood Haven, maybe. Yeah, Nightwing Blockbuster. 
    But the city can’t change. It won’t. I have to try. It’s going to kill you eventually. At the 
    end of the day, as much as there’s similarities,   it’s enough differences and ideologies 
    that separates them. Yeah. Knock off some CEO hedge fund types. It’ll be fun. 
    The bat and the cat. It’s got a nice ring. It’s like almost daylight. Can’t they get do 
    anything on their own? Let them have this. You should go. Selena, take care of 
    yourself. Oh, feel the heartbreak, man. Yeah, her hope and then that it’s 
    the one chance. It’s like the one chance   this Bruce had at love. He’s just so goddamn 
    lonely. And that’s the thing is like it’s not a discredit to the Dark Knight trilogy at all. 
    It’s like that bad that he he’s not that lonely. He’s got like surrounded by mentors 
    surrounded by helpers and he’s got a support system for a little time. But I really 
    feel like how [ __ ] lonely this man is. Yeah, those Glasgow shots. First shots I think we 
    saw. Yeah. Were like just the ending scene, which is also crazy cuz that didn’t ruin it cuz we 
    were so engrossed. We didn’t think of it either. I love Glascow for the Gothic 
    element of Gotham. It really works. Go our separate ways. Now, [Music] respect 
    the choice to keep it in the wide there. You see them look at each other, but it’s 
    more telling that moment of hesitation of   him not turning right away. And we end on a 
    POV shot. We end with his look in the mirror to start the film with Riddler’s POV and 
    end with his like that being our last POV. That’s a book end for you, man. 
    It’s a good book. Love a book end. Brilliant. What a picture. I mean, look, there’s 
    there’s things the Dark Knight has that this one doesn’t. And there’s things this one has, right? 
    It’s like, you know, they’re, you know, when you start dissecting the Dark Knight, I start saying, 
    “What’s a better one?” I start dissecting this   one, I start saying, “This one’s a better one.” 
    You know, but man, are they both exceptional. They’re both really great. And that’s the power 
    of Batman. He can be different movies and both be   perfect. Let’s just before we head out, who’s 
    Ava Maria? What does the song Ava Maria mean? The lyrics arc Latin phrase meaning hail 
    Mary which is a greeting to the Virgin Mary. Ah I knew it was something. It’s 
    the mother of Christ. Um I mean okay but what does the song mean? Yeah. Yeah. 
    What is that? How does that directly? Thou can’t hear through the wild. Prayer. 
    Mother hears a maiden prayer. Mother hear a supplement child. Oh, I guess this is probably 
    playing into the orphan theme of it all. Oh, that makes sense. Okay. So, singing it as the the 
    mother of orphans because he’s an orphan. Like, they’re all orphans. Yeah. And he’s about to make 
    an orphan of that kid. Jesus’s father was God, but he was still like just raised by his mom 
    in a way. I don’t I mean wasn’t like a full-on orphan. Someone smarter than us in the comments 
    relate Ava Maria to the story other than orphan, but maybe that’s it. For a father, you’re a 
    something about parents. Yeah. Catholic guilt. Yeah. Let’s end it on this halfcooked note. We did 
    a lot of good work. Worth subscribing to because we don’t want to take five more minutes to read 
    through these lyrics. Not in a threehour movie. Sorry. What a reaction. Thank you guys so much

    1. The third act really kills the movie for me. The last hour felt slower than the first two, this guy is the smartest detective and doesn’t know basic Spanish. Riddler feels like he knows Bruce is Batman but just gets lucky he sent the bomb to Bruce who happens to be Batman? So much just starts to not make any sense which sucks bc up until they interrogate penguin and tie him up, this movie is dope

    2. Greg was right with the orphan connection to Ave Maria. Mary, in Christian theology, is often seen as the "New Eve" and Eve/second Eve is the "mother of all." The movie is full of Biblical and religious symbolism albeit changed to suit the story being told. When Batman goes into the water and is reborn as hope rather than vengeance it's a kind of baptism. When Gotham is subject to a catastrophic flood, however in this case it leads to an increase in corruption. There are multiple other symbols like this, but you get the point. All of this is to say that Ave Maria is fitting as something that would stick in Riddler's head as an orphan searching for connection.

    3. I think it would be a good idea for Batman to have his presence limitations challenged in the sequel.
      "It's a big city; I can't be everywhere." As he becomes a symbol of hope, his fear factor is compromised. Mirror that with his life as Batman vs as Bruce – how his life demands involvement from both sides, not just what he's comfortable with.
      We already saw how much was able to transpire outside of Batman's reach in The Penguin.

    4. 1:46:00 Most of the locations in this film were actually shot in Liverpool: the 'Times Square' shot, the funeral service, the GCPD tower and the ending/cemetary location is a mix of both Liverpool and Glasgow. The only other shot that shows Glasgow was on the roof when Selina and Batman are talking at the end. So the "Gothic element of Gotham" is mostly Liverpool.
      Re comparison to the Nolan films: the problem with Christian Bale's take is that he is ONLY playing Bruce Wayne. The Dark Knight Trilogy was a Bruce Wayne trilogy. Even in the mask. Pattinson only plays Batman and that is how it should be. There is no need for any kind of "civilian persona" because it makes zero sense in the modern day for a billionaire to have a day-time persona, as you rarely see them (unless they are hogging the limelight on social media). I have never understood people's obsession with wanting to see more of Bruce. As a child, did you ever once look at the animated series and think, "do you know what I'd like to see more of? Bruce Wayne at cocktail parties instead of hunting down the criminals"?! No, me neither. People want it because that's how they've been conditioned to believe that is how it is done. If Pattinson never developed any kind of "Bruce Wayne" persona it would not take away from the story at all

You might as well just go chat instead. Damn it! All those thoughts and comments about the movie should be saved until the end. You shouldn’t chat so much in the middle—it’s annoying, ruins the experience, and breaks the rhythm.

    6. This was actually the first Batman movie I had ever watched when it came out, just because Robert Pattinson was playing the lead. & then this movie BLEW my mind!!! One of my favorite films ever. THE BATMAN 2 IN 2027!!!

    8. Ave Maria was used as an ironic mirror in regards to the riddler. The song was about Jesus being the chosen one and riddler felt he was the chosen one to save Gotham but in order to do so there had to be sacrifices

    9. This is a much better portrayal of Batman but the Dark Knight is a far superior film. I love moments of Batman but overall the movie drags and can get boring. Also the ending is bad and drug on way too long

    11. Some perfect locations they shot this, one is the funeral location which is shot in the city of Liverpool in the UK. It’s a great historic spot to do a lot of scenes 😊

As a lifelong Batman fan, growing up on the Burton movies and BTAS along with thousands of comics through the years, I have to say this is my favorite interpretation of the character on the big screen. I know the movie gets hate but I genuinely feel this is a near perfect Batman film. He's young and brash in this, but you still see his intelligence which, like with Spiderman, is often left by the wayside in film. You get his detective side which is a core character trait that is often overshadowed or glossed over, and you also get his physical prowess, one of the few things every film wants to latch to. One thing though, that I haven't really seen since BB, is you get that bit of fear of Batman. Again, just my opinion which will obviously not align with everyone else but I think this was a fantastic comic movie and I cannot wait for the sequel!!!
