It started raining, and the temperature dropped to mid-December levels. ⛄️ It feels like winter came suddenly, skipping over autumn… On days this cold, it’s better to stay inside. KOME and I ran through the gaps in the rain and went to the flower shop. 🐕 This week’s flowers are cosmos. 🍂🌸 I planned to buy about ten, but they gave me a lot extra. 🤭 Thanks to the cosmos blooming, I can enjoy the short autumn feeling like autumn every year. ◎ Before it gets colder, I decided to make the room cozy, so I got some things from IKEA and MUJI. 🧸🧶 Right at the entrance of IKEA, these meerkats were lined up in bulk, and I couldn’t resist bringing twee home. 😮‍💨💌 Somehow, its face reminds me of KOME and my partner, so I couldn’t ignore it. 😢 I updated some cushion covers and bought a blanket for use in the car. ◎ Also, I’m slowly collecting glass storage containers. As someone who loves meal prepping, I can never have too many. 💫 I finally found a simple gratin dish, and while I was at it, I bought some delicious-looking soup. 👀🥣 For my partner who fell in love with a succulent arrangement at a family trip’s inn, I gave the first one as a gift. 🤭🌵 My baking supplies, which didn’t fit on the shelf and were stored in a flimsy paper bag… I was finally able to replace them with a sturdy jute bag. 🕊️ Next are some things I found at MUJI. This fall and winter, I want to use mustard yellow as an accent color. 💭 Since I was thinking that, I chose cushion covers and slippers in mustard colors, which I normally wouldn’t pick. 🏅 They feel warm and are really cute. Before rearranging the room, time for a snack. I’m going to make steamed buns using sweet potatoes and apples. 🍠🍎 I was craving steamed buns like Aichi’s “Oni Manju” or Kumamoto’s “Ikinari Dango”… 💭 After boiling the sweet potatoes until soft, I add apples, honey, rum raisins, and lemon juice, then simmer it all. 🐝 I mix rice flour, beet sugar, and soy milk to make the dough. Once well mixed, I add the cooled sweet potatoes and apples. Pour the mixture into the steamer basket, press out the air, and decorate with sweet potatoes or apples if desired. Steam for 20 to 30 minutes, and it’s done! 💫 I’ll taste the mushroom soup right away, too. 💭 It’s a strange combo, soup and steamed buns, but as long as it’s warm and tasty, it’s all good. ✌🏻 The chewy steamed buns are complete!! The ideal sticky texture… I’ll eat it while it’s hot. 🤤 The endless journey of sweet and salty… The perfect sweetness and the flavor of rum raisins are irresistible, and before I knew it, it was all gone. 🤫💬 Before it gets dark, time to finish rearranging the room. 🔥 First, I’ll start with changing my clothes for the season. I never expected the season to change so suddenly, so I still have a lot of summer clothes I was planning to wear one last time… 😢 It’s a farewell for now until next summer. Seeing the usual winter clothes, I started looking forward to the next Christmas and New Year’s. 🎄🤭 Changing to warm bedding. 🧶🍂🕯️ There’s only comfort in the usual blankets and the new pillow covers from MUJI. 💫 I’m sure tomorrow morning will be a struggle to get out of bed. 😮‍💨 Just changing the covers made the room feel warm and cozy. ◎ Watching movies or reading books buried in cushions on a warm heated carpet—that’s winter happiness. 😘 Stay here a little longer until it gets colder! For now, that’s it for rearranging. As the cold grows stronger each time, I plan to gradually warm up the room a little bit at a time. 🐕 Dinner time. 🌛 Tonight’s menu is taro croquettes. ◎ While steaming the taro, I make pumpkin and maitake mushroom rice. 🎃 Just add sake, mirin, soy sauce, and dashi, then cook together with plenty of pumpkin and maitake. 🎖️ Here is miso soup with nameko mushrooms, myoga, and spinach. ◎ For the croquette filling, I seasoned taro, ground pork, and onion with garam masala and salt and pepper. On fried food days, broccoli tempura can’t be forgotten. 🤫 Once the taro cools, peel off the skin, then mash and mix it with the other ingredients. Divide into small portions, coat with rice flour, egg, and rice panko in that order, then shape as desired. ◎ Today, I made too many again. 🤫 Mix ketchup, medium-thick sauce, and miso for the croquette sauce! Fry until golden brown like a fox. 🦊 The sound of frying is so fun. 🥁💭🪇 Stack the croquettes high and decorate with autumn leaves to finish! Also, my partner’s favorite broccoli. 🥦 The rice is done cooking. ◎ Warm, fluffy, and cozy. 🦁: “Let’s eat!” 🐨: “Let’s eat!” No bright colors, but full of warmth! 🐨: “Mmm! Delicious!” The soft taro goes so well with the spices. 😳 🦁: “Delicious!” 🦁: “Rich and creamy with curry flavor!” I wanted to enjoy it while it was warm, so I quietly kept eating. 🥣 🦁: “Looks like it got stuck on my teeth.” 🦁: “Are you okay?” Thank you for the meal! The feet after the bath have switched to winter mode. 🧦 The pjs full of fuzz balls need to be replaced too… 💭 A happy surprise arrived from a friend—some special sweets. 😢 A simple and luxurious Mont Blanc made only with this year’s new chestnut cream and fresh cream. 🌰 To go with the Mont Blanc, an oat milk matcha latte. It was a quiet evening healed by the delicious Mont Blanc. 🌛 It’s about time to plan some chestnut work this year too. 🤭 A stick-type palo santo. 🌳 All the winter preparations are done, now just waiting for winter. But there’s still a little part of me that wants to stay in autumn… 😮‍💨 I wish time would flow a bit more slowly.
