大物群れる「天然の釣り堀状態」の海にいろんなルアーを投げてみると‥

Okay, it’s bitten. Okay, it’s bitten. It’d be dangerous if it got stuck. I can see a school of pretty big fish. Good morning. This is Takuan, currently on a fishing trip in my car. Oh, I’m currently in Miyagi Prefecture in Tohoku. It’s already well into autumn, and the mornings have been cooler lately, dropping below 20°C. It’s about time for some surf fishing, especially for flounder. As the water temperature drops, they become more active, so I think it’s about time to start with some surf fishing today. Well, I’m going to get started, but the water here is quite shallow. I’m not sure if this is normal, but there seems to be some waves, so I’ll look for a slightly deeper spot, a hollowed-out area, where the fish will likely come in from offshore. This area looks good. It’s a place with fewer waves than the surrounding areas. This area seems like it. You see, it’s a place with fewer waves than the surrounding areas. Here, I think the water is a little dug up because of rip currents that send waves that have come in close back out to sea. Let’s start with this area. 5:54 AM Fishing begins . I thought I’d try a minnow first thing in the morning, but I’m not sure. The water is too shallow, so I don’t think it’ll cast far enough. Well, the fish might be coming in closer first thing in the morning, so I’ll try casting a minnow for now. Ah, it’s quite far out, but there are some that look like bird spots. Hmm. I need some distance here, so a minnow isn’t the answer. I’ll switch to a lure with more distance. Okay, I’ll go with a heavy sinking pencil that casts far. This lure was made for the Tohoku surf. Apparently, green lures are good for fishing in Miyagi Prefecture’s surf. There are popular local colors that are effective in each area, but why do different colors catch the same fish species in different regions? Maybe it’s just because so many people use it that they’re catching fish? I think red-and-gold is popular in Okinawa. Apparently, there are certain colors that are more popular in different regions. The water temperature seems to be around 25°C. It still feels like the end of summer. I guess it’s a little early. Once the water temperature drops to around 20°C, the flounder season will begin. The tide is just starting to rise from low tide, so the timing isn’t bad. Oh, what a beautiful rainbow. The rainbow is beautiful, but does this mean it’s going to rain? When I surf fish, I often check the waves to see if there are any small fish that I can use as bait, or if any trash has washed up , and use it as an indicator of the ocean conditions. But there are shells here. There are quite a lot of shells with contents inside. I think this one is too. See, there’s something inside this one too. So, what’s that about? It’s been rough lately, so maybe some shellfish are being washed up on the shore from offshore. I looked it up and it turns out they’re called “kotamagai.” I wonder what will happen if I leave them like this? Will they die? Oh, if I didn’t have any food, I’d try eating the shellfish, but I guess they’re subject to fishing rights and shouldn’t be taken, so I’ll let them go. I see a school of fish where the waves are rising. They’re pretty big. I wonder what they are. Maybe sea bass? I can see a school of fish. I was just reeling my heavy sinking pencil in the spot. Oh, I just got a bite. I just got a bite. That one looked suspicious. I wonder what it was. There’s a big river nearby, so I walked over there. I cast my lure a bit, but there weren’t any bites. But there were quite a few people around and they were all catching big fish. They were catching fish quite frequently, so I wondered what they were catching and turned out to be sea bass. Those people weren’t fishing with lures or bait, but more like hook fishing. They used an anchor-like hook to hook the fish. (Note that intentionally hooking fish is prohibited in some areas, so be careful.) They were catching quite a few, so it seems like the sea bass density around here is incredibly high. So I’m going to try targeting sea bass myself. So , I’ll switch to a minnow. I’ve tried throwing heavy sinking pencils and sinking lures, but there was no reaction, so I’ll slowly explore with a minnow. Hey, when the waves rise, I see fish in the middle—they’re probably needlefish. I see a school of fairly large, somewhat slender fish. Needlefish? If there are needlefish, the water temperature must still be high. But strangely, the needlefish aren’t biting. I have the impression that needlefish will eat anything they find on a lure. I wonder what that is. I know the fish are there, so I’ve been trying out a variety of lures, but it seems like it’s going to be difficult to get them to bite. I went back to the car for a bit to get a lure that would be easy to attract even inactive sea bass. Okay, let’s give it a try. It’s not exactly suitable for the surf, but it’s a light worm. If they don’t bite this, it’ll be difficult to get them to bite. These types of worms don’t have much appeal, so I don’t use them much in these open-ocean surf areas, but if the fish density is high, I think it might work. Hmm. I think I’ll try it in the river. I don’t think I’ll catch much if I throw this here. Hey, take a look at this. I just found this while walking on the beach. What kind of crab is this? Isn’t it that? Isn’t this the claw of a sawtooth mud crab? Amazing. It would be dangerous if I got caught in this. I’d probably crush my finger. By the way, they even exist in the waters around here. I thought it was a crab that lives in warm waters, but the fact that it’s here means the water temperature is rising. Or maybe it’s been here for a long time. It stinks!! Ugh!!! When I touched the crab, it smelled really bad. This is awful. Okay. I think I’ll try fishing in the river a bit. I’m sure there are sea bass there. There are definitely sea bass there. The problem is whether I can get them to bite. It feels like it’s hitting something bumpy up there, so I guess there must be quite a few obstacles. I let it hit the bottom… and slowly reeled it in, occasionally giving it a bait… Oh, it’s biting, it’s biting. Okay. Something must have bitten it! Yes. What is it? I was reeling it slowly near the bottom and it came. Oh, a sea bass. A sea bass. Yes. Oh, it’s got it. Damn, it’s got it. Oh man, I got it to bite. I lost it. I see. There are loads of them after all. Sea bass. There are some there, but they probably aren’t biting. But I found a way to get them to bite. I can get them to bite by slowly reeling it in along the bottom. I cleaned the gills like this, so they definitely ate it. But it didn’t get caught, so maybe it’s a school of sea bass hitting it hard? It’s possible. If there are that many sea bass out there. Oh, what’s that? It’s hitting me hard, but it’s not sinking. Is it a fish? Oh, maybe a school of fish has come in? These are really hard hits. Maybe a school of sea bass? Maybe mullet or something? I’ll try using a lighter jig head for the worm, so it floats more. That should make it easier to get them to bite. The vibrations are more like bait, or like a living thing. Ah, it might be a fish. It’s a fish. It’s hitting the fish’s body now. It was bumpy. It felt alive. I let it hit the bottom and just reeled it in slowly , and it was eaten. Okay, it was eaten. What, it’s pulling like that? Did it bite? It was a very strong pull for a sea bass… It was like the pull of a large bluefish. But it wasn’t the weight of a mere bait. Ugh. Well, my GoPro battery had just died. It was a sea bass. It was really big. But, it was a thread after all. Look, the line’s caught on its tail. There must be so many sea bass out there that they can get caught on a single hook with a worm. I see. So this is what you pull. Sorry. Can I get it? Oh, there it is, there it is. I see. There are a lot of sea bass here. I have no idea what they’re eating or if they’re even coming into the river to chase bait, so I haven’t caught anything. All I know is that there are a lot of sea bass here. Okay. I’ll try out different lures and somehow get them to bite. There are fish here, aren’t there? But there’s a slight current, so if I just float along in the current, maybe I can get them to bite. There are fish there, but they’re not interested. What can I do to get them to bite? It’s light and sinks slowly, so it takes time, then I let it hit the bottom, bouncing it up and down, and then it hits the bottom again. I keep repeating that process, and then… Hey, it’s biting. It hit while it was sinking! Did it bite this time? Oh, it missed. What was that just now? Maybe it just slipped by again. I was trying to catch flathead or flounder near the bottom, aiming for sea bass at the same time. I continued casting like that for a while and then, oh, it’s biting. Oh, it’s biting, it’s biting, it’s biting, it’s biting, it’s biting. It must have bitten while it was sinking. It’s probably biting now since it’s cleaning its gills . Hmm, maybe it’s in a pretty shallow place right now. It hasn’t even hit the bottom yet. It bit pretty soon after hitting the water. It probably bit that one. Oh, a good size. Oh, it’s biting, it’s biting. It’s caught in its mouth. Yes, it’s biting. Not that it bit, but it took it while it was sinking. Yes, it did. It’s a pretty good size. It must have bitten while I was casting the worm and letting it sink. I couldn’t tell if it had bitten at all, but it was hooked when I reeled it in. But it bit. It tends to be tenacious. Yes. About the size. It’s a nice, plump sea bass. Got it. I feel like I’d like to eat it, but I want to fish a little more. I feel like I’m finally getting the hang of it, so I’ll let it go. Okay, bye-bye. Okay . I see. It looks like it started reeling in pretty soon after it hit the water and started biting, so it’s probably pretty close to the surface. It seems like it’s in the upper layers. If it’s swimming that shallow, I might be able to catch it with a minnow. Maybe I should try a different lure. Maybe a fast-reeling minnow. Oh, maybe it just bit. Maybe it just bit. They probably figured it out during the day, so I tried reeling it in fast, like a reflex reaction , and it looks like I got a bite. Speaking of which, I haven’t been able to announce it at all, but Blaze Eye has released a pickled radish color for their Lightning Evolutes minnow. They’ll be selling them one by one. I think some of them will probably already be on sale by the time this video is posted, but I’ll put the details in the video description, so if you’re interested, check it out. Okay, time for a color change. Let’s try out some different colors. The worm was also pink. It felt like a managed fishing area, a fishing pond. There are a lot of fish here, but they’re hard to catch. I figured I could get them to bite on this small worm, so I went to get one and caught one, so I guess I’d call it a success. As evening approached, the black crabs suddenly disappeared. Just a moment ago, fish were pounding the lure and line , but that’s gone now. So, rather than a constant school of them, they’re probably just moving in and out of the river. Fishing is over . It’s exhausting after a full day. I had planned to visit various spots today, but I ended up just fishing in one spot. And, if I let a fish get away, I might not be able to catch another one, so I guess dinner tonight will be half-price ready-made meals from the supermarket. I’ve been to so many supermarkets on my travels that I feel more at ease when I go to a supermarket these days (lol) . Okay, so tonight’s dinner is a half-price bento box I bought at the supermarket. Two for about 400 yen. It’s been five years since I started YouTube, and I’m thankful to have so many supporters , so I make enough money to eat out every day, but I’m trying to keep my standard of living as low as possible , so I usually go out and buy these half-price side dishes in the evening. Tonight’s dinner is shrimp tempura bowl and a Miyagi Prefecture specialty called harakomeshi, which is rice cooked in salmon broth and topped with salmon roe. It’s a luxurious dish. Let’s eat. Cooking and eating the fish we caught is nice, but eating these local bento boxes is also a fun part of this car camping trip. Yeah. Filling your stomach is delicious. I buy some bloodworms from a vending machine tended by a frog-like pheasant . I’m at the river mouth again today. Today I’m doing some easy fishing with light tackle. I’ve been craving those gobies, so I’m going to try goby fishing. I bought some bloodworms. I’ll tear them up and put them on the hook. Okay. Let’s try it like this. The setting is also the river mouth, but the fishing is completely different. Well, I guess I’ll try letting it sink to the bottom and slowly dragging it, stopping every once in a while. If there are gobies around, it shouldn’t be that hard to catch them. I think I’ll be able to catch them pretty easily. Oh, my goby. I’m not getting any bites. I wonder if they’re not there. If there were lots of them, they’d be quite visible in these shallows, but I can’t see any. Autumn is the season for goby fishing, but there are no obstacles here, so maybe I should go somewhere with a few more. Hmm, I thought I’d be able to catch gobies easily, but surprisingly, I’m not catching any. This is a kind of canal that flows into the river, and places like this might be better. I’m not sure if I can catch anything here, though. Ah, it’s not that deep. This place is just as shallow as the river. Wow, this is nice. It feels like a secret fishing spot, I like it. I found a good spot at the back of the canal. The water is shallow, though. I’m not sure if it’s more than a meter. I occasionally move the bait around after it hits the bottom to lure it in. This looks good. There are rocks up ahead. Ah, here it comes. Something’s here. Something’s here. Something’s here. Yes. Just as I intended. Yes. I caught a Japanese goby, just as I intended. All right. I’d like to catch about five more like this. I guess this place is good, with all the grass growing there and the rocks like this, and places to hide, and plenty of food. Places like this are good. I’m definitely getting bites. Oh, I caught one, I caught one, I caught one, I caught one. Yes, gobies galore! I guess they come into narrow channels like this, where there’s less predation, because there are probably predators in larger rivers. Gobies are sensitive to movement, so it’s good to move them around like this every now and then, to let them know that there’s bait. Okay, it’s biting! Yay! I was fishing for gobies nicely when… oh, I caught something different. A tiny black porgy. Look. See? A cute black porgy that looks like a lure. Okay. Bye-bye, black porgy. Okay, let’s have some fun with the rod-setting style. Oh, here it comes, here it comes, here it comes, here it comes. Wow. I was just taking a picture of the rod with my smartphone, and it took the rod away with a bang, and I caught a really nice goby. This is big. It’ll eat just a little bit of bait. This is more than enough. Okay, it’s hooked! Yay! I used up all my 400 yen worth of bloodworms and caught this much. Well, I let the really tiny ones go, though. Well, catching this many is pretty impressive, isn’t it? And I even caught a big goby like this. Okay, so let’s start filleting the goby. Goby is usually eaten as tempura or fried chicken, but today I’m going to try making a local dish from Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture. Miyagi Prefecture has a local dish called Sendai Zoni, which is made by grilling, drying, and crisping goby, then making a broth with it and using that to make zoni. Regardless of whether I’m actually going to make zoni this time, this grilled and dried goby looked really delicious, so I’m going to try making it. However, when I looked online, I found that there are many different ways to make grilled goby, and it’s quite difficult to make properly, so this time I’m going to try making it in a way that’s easy to do. Remove the internal organs and gills and wash it thoroughly. Wash it thoroughly with water first. So, the salt water is about 4% salt , and I leave it in that. After 30 minutes, I take it out. By the way, I opened the larger ones because I thought they might rot if I left them like that. Then I used kitchen paper to thoroughly dry them, even inside the belly. Then I grilled them over low heat. I grilled them over low heat so the fins wouldn’t move. It’s supposed to be better to put them in the refrigerator at this stage without covering them with plastic wrap to remove more moisture, but I don’t have a refrigerator in my house or car, so I’ll just grill them as they are. I grilled them slowly over low heat. See, isn’t it good? The moisture has been removed just enough. Apparently, you can dry them for a few days until they’re crispy. Okay, let’s dry them here. I’ll dry them in the sun during the day, and at night, they’ll probably get damp from the night dew, so I’d better bring them indoors. It helps to edit the video while it’s still fresh in my mind. Night view of Sendai on my way to my next destination . Well, I’m still on my journey. The sun came out a little while I was stopped at a service area, so I hung it out to dry like this. It’s a pretty strange sight, I think. I’m a little worried about what others might think. While I’m traveling, I open the car windows and let the air in. That should dry it out. A few days passed , and this is what I see after a week of grilled goby. I sometimes dried it inside the car, and sometimes outside, but now it’s completely dehydrated and crispy. It didn’t take a week to get to this point, about three days, and it was already crispy. And the smell isn’t fishy or fishy, but rather, it has a very fragrant aroma. It’s a little different from dried sardines, but it has a fragrant seafood smell. Then I use this grilled goby to make a broth. I put the grilled and dried goby and kelp in , pour in water, and leave it overnight, or maybe a day. Let’s leave it for a day. Now, let’s take the grilled goby broth I made yesterday. I kept it chilled in the cooler just in case. Wow, it’s turned into a beautifully colored soup. Then I’ll heat it up some more to extract the broth. Reduce the heat and let it simmer slowly. Remove the kelp before it boils. Okay, simmer over low heat for 10 minutes, then remove from the heat. Then, cut the vegetables. Peel the daikon radish and cut it into strips. Next, the Japanese parsley. Chop this finely. I used a little too much daikon, so I’ll eat it as is. Okay. Okay. This daikon isn’t spicy at all. So, I’ll quickly boil the daikon radish. I’ll also add the Japanese parsley root. I’ll also use burdock and carrots, but I found some pre-boiled, processed versions, so I’ll use those. At the same time, I’ll use a portable power source and an electric rice cooker to rehydrate the konnyaku in hot water. The daikon radish is ready when it’s soft and translucent. Then, strain the stock from the grilled goby into the soup. Add sake, salt, and soy sauce , checking the taste as you go. Then add the daikon radish, carrot, burdock, freeze-dried tofu, and any parsley root you may have added. Now, grill the rice cakes, then put them in bowls and arrange them. Add the grilled rice cakes, then the kamaboko, and top with chopped parsley. Then, this is a little different: add salmon roe on top. I bought salmon roe sushi at the supermarket to top with this salmon roe. Then, top with the rehydrated grilled goby. And now, Sendai Zoni made with grilled goby stock is complete. Okay, let’s eat it while it’s still warm. Well, it’s called Sendai Zoni, but since it’s made in the Kuruma Shokudo style, I’m not sure how closely it replicates the official method. Let’s eat. Ah. Yeah. This is a good broth. The refined flavor of the goby really comes through. And there’s a faint aroma of the grilled goby. Now, let’s move on to the ingredients. This ozoni with salmon roe is gorgeous. I’ll eat it with vegetables. Yes. Oh, these root vegetables are great. Burdock. Burdock and radish. The aroma of this burdock is also really nice. The broth is very light, so the saltiness of this iku that comes with it is quite nice. Eating this mochi and then drinking the broth is the best. Yes. I think this might be the first time I’ve ever eaten mochi at a mobile restaurant. Next, let’s try this grilled goby. Is it tasty? This. Well, you can eat the goby after extracting the broth, but it’s not that delicious. However, if you let it soak in the broth, it’s quite tasty. However, the bones are a bit of a concern. Ozoni was a feast. Yes, I bought these. This is a local sake from Miyagi Prefecture called “Urakasumi.” It was delicious just as it was, but I feel like it’s a bit of a waste, so I put it on the fire . This is grilled goby without any broth. I kept one fish. I lightly seared it and added the seared goby. I’m going to enjoy this grilled goby sake like a fin sake. Wow, it’s got a nice subtle color. Let’s have a glass with the remaining salmon roe sushi from this Sendai zoni. Okay, let’s have some grilled goby sake. Ah. Yes. It doesn’t have the same impact as the flathead fin sake I made last time, but it has a subtle aroma and is delicious. I think I may have put in a bit too much sake. If I had used less, I might have been able to taste a bit more of the goby’s flavor. Sushi with just enough salmon roe left . I think this is better drunk as is. This sake might be more delicious just as it is, rather than adding goby or making it into a fillet sake. I added salt to the remaining broth and boiled the noodles, using only salt as a seasoning. I finished off with grilled goby broth ramen , which has a light flavor. It was a feast , and perhaps just salt would be better than adding too many things to the lightly flavored grilled goby broth . I ate some delicious food today, and my happy journey continues.
