Hello, today we’ll stay at COMO Maalifushi, Maldives’ ultra-luxury private island resort. We’ll introduce you to the room we stayed in. Pool and beach. Meals such as floating breakfast and Japanese dinner. COMO Shambhala overwater spa. Activities like private island picnic, dolphin cruise and more. Please enjoy the two-night stay! COMO Maalifushi is located in the Thaa Atoll, in the southern part of the Maldives. Today we find ourselves above the Maldives on a very special trip. I am excited because we’ll stay at one of the most luxurious hotels in the Maldives. At Malé Airport, the COMO Maalifushi team is already waiting to welcome us and guide us to the seaplane terminal. The Maldives is made up of around 1,190 islands and over 170 of them are home to beautiful resorts and private luxury escapes. Now, from the airport, we’ll head to the seaplane terminal to wait at the lounge until our departure to the luxury resort. Here we are. COMO Maalifushi doesn’t have its own lounge like some other resorts so we’ll be waiting at the Manta Air lounge instead. Many resorts in the Maldives can only be reached by seaplane, since they’re located on remote private islands spread across the atolls. Let’s take a look at the lounge. The staff will inform us once our seaplane is ready for boarding. We can enjoy complimentary drinks, coffee and light snacks. Coconut pandan cake!! Egg toast and tuna sandwich. Some fruits.
Cereals with milk. Selection of tea. Inside the cooler..
Juices, soda drinks. Yogurts! I’m quite sleepy, so I’ll treat myself to a complimentary coffee. Is it a better sound in the world?! Thank you coffee machine. Good. Flying by seaplane is one of the most unique experiences in the Maldives. The views from above are absolutely spectacular. It’s our second time here so we already know how fabulous this flight can be. By the way, seaplanes are very loud as you can see. Hear, sorry. Boarding time! Manta Air is one of the main seaplane operators in the Maldives. These flights usually take about an hour, depending on how far the resort is from Malé. Got some essentials like wet napkins and earplugs. Taking off. Best spot in the house. And now we’re flying above the Maldives. Look at this. This is incredible, isn’t it? COMO Maalifushi is located in the Thaa Atoll, one of the most remote and pristine parts of the Maldives. Seaplanes can feel a bit scary at first but you get used to it. Finally arrived at COMO Maalifushi. Almost. COMO Maalifushi is one of two COMO resorts in the Maldives. The other one is COMO Cocoa Island, located closer to Malé. Our pool is 6.6 meters by 2.5 meters, with a depth of 1.2 meters. Don’t ask me how I know all these details. Outdoor shower.
The three essentials. Because who doesn’t love a little audience of geckos white taking a bath? Even paradise needs good water pressure. The pool temperature is nice and warm. Anyways. If you’d like to stay here, drop us an email or leave a comment and we’d love to help you plan your paradise trip! Shortly after the room tour, we got ready for our sunset dolphin cruise. Before heading out onto the ocean, the crew will give us a short dolphin briefing and explain what to expect during the cruise. We’ll most probably see bottlenose dolphins. Most important is to take lots of photos. I am excited to see the dolphins. This is their stunning infinity pool surrounded by very high palm trees. We’ll take a bath here tomorrow. The sunset dolphin cruise at COMO Maalifushi costs $125 per adult and $62.50 per child for a shared sunset cruise. Here is the boat. Looks like a luxurious fishing boat. Let’s find a seat. Off we go on a wonderful marine adventure. There are also some tables on board. Best place to enjoy the view and spot the dolphins from far away. SEE?? Told you. There are lots of them. Spinner and bottlenose dolphins, the ones most often seen around COMO Maalifushi, can swim at speeds of about 20 to 25 km/h (12–15 mph) on average, They are so beautiful and friendly. We have a surprise. Can you hear them?? The experience is actually called the “Splash Net Cruise” because of the net at the back of the boat where we can sit. Basically a floating bed. I think I’ll just grab something to drink and watch the others do the activity. I’m still debating even though it’s completely safe. Would you do it? I did it.
It was really nice actually. Now it’s time for the late-afternoon bento box. Love this view. Let’s see.. Some fried tuna meatballs. Then some vegetable sushi. Fresh cut fruits. Some kind of chocolate glazed vanilla cake. Back at the hotel to watch the sun setting down. Wait it is already set. I got a little too distracted by the food. It was a truly special experience, unlike any other dolphin cruise we’ve taken before. Now, time for the Japanese dinner at the restaurant. Well, we’ve just realized that we didn’t eat much today, except for the morning coffee and the bento box… Hello. Tai is the resort’s signature overwater Japanese restaurant, overlooking the ocean. In the middle of the restaurant we can see some sleepy sharks later. We can either dine inside or outside on the terrace. Both spots are great but it is a little windy today so we’ll stay inside. The design is warm and minimalist, centered around an open sushi counter where chefs prepare each dish right in front of you. Tai’ is Japanese for ‘red snapper’ and symbolises celebration. The restaurant offers sunset drinks from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. It is only open for dinner starting from 7:00pm until 10:00pm. Simple table setup. Tai menu. The menu includes Japanese favorites like edamame, tuna tataki, tempura prawns. Classic sashimi platter (salmon, tuna, snapper), salmon and avocado maki roll. spicy tuna roll. Main dishes include Australian wagyu sirloin.
Desserts like yuzu mousse. There is also a set menu priced at $165 / adult, excluding drinks. Cocktails menu. The drinks menu features signature cocktails like the Sake Cooler, The Rising Sun and Maalifushi Martini, along with infused creations such as Vanilla Whisper and Island Mirage. Grappa, signature coffee. Edamame on the house. For the starters, we ordered a platter of oyster tempura. Crisp mixed salad. They really look like fried oysters. Selection of sashimi with reef fish, salmon and tuna. Spicy tuna roll. Bon appétit! Add some Japanese dressing. Haven’t tried fried oysters before. I am really curious. Tastes…
Interesting. But I prefer the raw oysters. Tuna sashimi. Apparently the sharks came home for their beauty sleep. It’s a big one. Time for the fish. Main course will be Toothfish saikyoyaki and Australian wagyu. The moment of truth. The fish has a nice crust color and hajkami ginger shoot and apricot. No way. This is incredible. Round of applause for this fish. On top of the meat we have honey mustard sauce and some crispy garlic. Baby potatoes cooked in dash stock, miso butter and chives. The fish was the best dish of our dinner. For dessert, the team surprised us with a birthday cake brought to our table. It was such a kind gesture. Many thanks to the staff for this lovely food experience. The ocean breeze feels great and the moonlight reflects beautifully on the water. Very calming. The overwater villas deck is beautifully illuminated during the night. And so are the villas. Back to our water suite. Well, well, well. Turndown service has been done …and there’s a surprise on the bed. Getting older feels better with such beautiful gestures from beautiful people around. I’m thirsty after that cake. Good night! It’s the first morning in paradise. Wait did someone just knock? Oh, right! Our preordered floating breakfast. This beautiful morning comes with so much sunlight. The staff is setting up our floating breakfast by the pool. Such a beautiful way to start the day. The floating breakfast is available at an additional cost of about $150. It’s starting to look so pretty. Finally time to get into the pool. Spotted a colorful fish. I also ordered two fresh coconuts and americano coffee with milk. The advantage of ordering a floating breakfast is that you can eat a bit later than the regular breakfast at the restaurant. Downside is you’ll have to chase the tray around and eat from the water. Now, let’s have a look.
Basket of pastries. Fruits platter. Double. Mango yogurt. Coconut yogurt. Eggs royal. Sunny eggs with tomatoes, mushroom and kale. Btw, the breakfast looks like this because I took too many photos before. Cheers to a wonderful day. Eggs are nicely cooked. What else we have.. ..coconut croissant. Everything in the Maldives seems to have coconut in it. Let’s eat this until is still warm. It was such an enjoyable breakfast. Tomorrow, we’ll try the breakfast buffet at the restaurant. See you in a moment. Next, let’s explore the island together. Wish me luck. I’ll be riding the bike with one hand while filming this. Good thing these bicycles don’t have brakes
nothing can stop me now. Turns out the brakes are at the pedals so you stop by pedaling backward. The scenery is beautiful and the temperature is just right, around 29 degrees Celsius. We love walking more than riding the bicycles because this way you get the whole island experience. Probably the easiest parking I’ve ever done. Our first stop will be COMO Shambhala Retreat. It is an overwater spa! There are many signs to guide us around. The way towards the overwater spa is beautiful. Spa is in front, while the gym is on the right. COMO Shambhala Retreat is the resort’s wellness philosophy. It’s their peaceful sanctuary offering massages, facials, body therapies, and daily yoga sessions with ocean views. We’ll experience their signature 75-minute COMO Shambhala couple massage. Warm ginger tea before the massage. Hot, hot, hot. COMO Shambhala menu. It includes several massage therapies, from the signature COMO Shambhala Massage to Deep Tissue, Indonesian and Thai massages. Body therapies start at $315 for 2 hours session. There’s a kids menu as well. Before starting our treatment, we need to fill out a form with details about the type of massage and any health conditions. It’s still low tide, so the lagoon is quite shallow. Baby shark doo doo doo… The overwater spa is made in shape of a heart if we look from this spot. Way to the room is equally stunning. COMO has a very unique approach to wellness and well-being that you don’t see very often in other hotels. Room is spacious and bright and it is already prepared for the treatment. The massage beds face a beautiful ocean view. Foot spa here. We can choose our preferred oil for this occasion. There’s a nice breeze from the above fan. Beautiful dock where we can relax after our treatment. Time to change into our bathrobes. A small jewelry box and disposable panties. See you very soon! It was such a nice and relaxing experience. Now my muscles feel lighter and the mind is completely calm. On top of that, the weather is really nice these days so we can fully enjoy. COMO Shambhala also features private rooms with a jacuzzi, as well as steam and sauna facilities. The setting is beautiful. Yoga pavilion and gym on the left. The room can be booked for an hour and it will be exclusively for the two of us. Jacuzzi is surprisingly big, more like a small pool with warm water. There is a bench inside where we can seat. Spa facilities are placed on the sink counter. Don’t use the scale while you are on vacation please. Changing room and lockers. Sauna and steam room rules. Sauna is set at 72 degrees Celsius and feels intimate. Classic hot stones and sweating space. Steam room is 40 degrees Celsius. Using the facilities privately comes with an extra charge. There is a class in session right now so I can’t show you the studio at the moment. Yoga classes are complimentary, offering classes like Hatha yoga, Vinyasa yoga, Restorative Yin and even Kids yoga. On the other side, gym. Gym at COMO Maalifushi is bright, spacious and surrounded by greenery. It’s fully equipped with modern Life Fitness machines, free weights and cardio equipment. Everything from treadmills and bikes to resistance and stretching areas. Free weights available. Fresh towels, water and fruits are also available. Beautiful spa retreat! Next, we’ll continue our island tour. Starting from the very beginning with the arrival jetty and pavilion. This is where we first arrived when we reached the island. It’s a simple pavilion. We can see the entire island from one end to the other. It’s a really nice place to relax here at night and see the fish swimming around. Now there aren’t any. Maybe taking a nap. Move to the island. Here’s the COMO Maalifushi logo. Palm leaf above the name symbolizes nature and serenity. Moving forward there’s the open-air reception area. It’s available 24 hours. At the center, there’s a round sand feature with an open rooftop above it. There are several buggies and bikes parking areas available here. Island’s library and working space. Natural textures like wood and rattan create a homely feeling. A perfect spot to read, relax or catch up on some work during your stay. There are some games as well. Along one wall, there’s a beautiful library filled with books of all genres, available in several languages including English, Japanese, Russian, French. Coffee, tea. Some power cookies with chocolate and ginger. To the main pool. The island resort features just two restaurants and one bar. Here is the main spot of the island. This is called Thila Bar. What we can see in front is the grand pool. Pool has a natural, lagoon-inspired shape that matches with the island’s surroundings. This is the main pool deck area overlooking the whole area. Atmosphere feels both tropical and luxurious indeed. In terms of the main beach area… there are more sun loungers but the distance from them to the shoreline is quite large. Pool is open daily from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm. Right next to the pool is Madi Restaurant, open for breakfast and dinner. Thila Bar that we’ll visit a little later. I’m going to grab a towel and take a refreshing swim in the pool. Mint lemon water. It’s a beautiful spot to relax, though it can get a bit busy during the afternoon hours. Pool temperature is almost identical to the one of the ocean. The decor around the pool features palm trees planted on small islands within the water. Hurray. We are into the water. Truly a superb experience! Pool measures around 30 meters in length, with a depth of about 1.2 meters throughout most areas. Let’s find something to do here.. Ok, just relax. And enjoy this scenery. Shortly after we finish exploring some of the facilities, we’ll head out for a private picnic on a nearby deserted island. So stay tuned! Here you have it. The Maldives water. The lagoon in this part of the island is beautiful and calm. We can easily swim or paddle all around the island without any problems. Crystal-clear water surrounds us. I can spend a whole day here. There are some showers by the infinity pool. Let’s take a shower. This is the resort’s kids club. It offers a variety of activities, from arts and crafts to outdoor games, all supervised by staff. Kids can play here without disturbing the parents for a while. Small football playground for kids. Water sports center. We find kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, windsurfing, jet skis, parasailing, tubing, kneeboard and wakeboarding. Prices depend on the activity and duration, but most start at around $100 for a short session. Catamaran cruise. Beach volleyball. Found the ball. You’ll rarely come across other guests here and that’s the beauty of it. The whole idea is to feel completely surrounded by nature, with peace and privacy all around you. Look at how many coconuts there are. Time for the private island picnic everyone! We’ll be taken there by boat, where a secluded beach setup awaits for us. People paddle boarding. There is our little paradise. We arrived in approximately 3 minutes. We’ll be spending the next three hours here. Lavadhoo is a small deserted island near COMO Maalifushi. It’s part of the resort’s exclusive experiences and used only for guests. The island is completely uninhabited (well, mostly). We were welcomed with cold towels, music, fresh coconuts and smiles. First, the team gave us a short tour of the island and explained everything we could do during our time here. There’s also a sandbank but it can only be seen during low tide. Smells like paradise. Did you know that these islands are made entirely from dead corals? It’s an interesting fact I learned just yesterday. Coral debris naturally builds up over time to form the white-sand islands we see today. So the island is not entirely uninhabited. There are also 6 wild rabbits living here. Hi pal! Two sunbeds are already prepared. We can choose to swim, snorkel, sunbathe or take a nap. The palm trees create a beautiful scenery. We can play with the rabbits. If the rabbits don’t want to play, we can at least offer them some carrots. HAHAHAH. Oh, strong bite. They are sooo cute! Should I grab one more carrot? It’s lunch time. Let’s see what’s on the menu. A private island picnic like this usually costs around $300–$600 per couple, depending on the setup, menu and duration. Honestly, it’s one of those signature Maldivian experiences that’s totally worth it for the privacy and atmosphere. I’m really struggling not to dig into all these delicious dishes. Fresh veggie rolls with sweet chili sauce. Beetroot and feta cheese salad. Avocado tunasushi rolls. Everything is fresh and not too complicated. Look at those body moves. Sandwich with tuna and mayonnaise and banana chips. I love hearing the sound of the waves while eating. Dessert is chocolate fudge cake with whipped cream and berries. Who has the tallest ears? Lol. Those ear moves are killing me. We asked for two glasses of Prosecco. Did you see the rabbit?? Cing cing! 🥂 We can relax on the hammock. It’s time to leave, my friends. (NO NO NO NO TAKE ME WITH YOU) Our boat has arrived to take us back to the resort. I definitely recommend trying this kind of experience if you ever get the chance. Honestly don’t know when the three hours passed. The overwater villas look beautiful. Now we’re getting ready for a snorkeling session to explore the reef. Got my underwater camera ready. I’m not exactly sure where the best snorkeling spot is around here. Probably should’ve asked for some advice first. We’ll see about it once we’re in the water. Let’s see some fish. There are so many fish here. We are lucky today! The reefs around COMO Maalifushi are healthy and colorful, with plenty of coral formations. Our snorkeling didn’t last too long because the water visibility wasn’t that great today. It’s a family of crabs. Hmm. I’m really excited about tonight. It’s going to be a themed buffet night at Madi Restaurant, with live cooking stations and music. We’ll wait for our buggy here. It is a great sunset today. Get off the buggy. Thila Bar, the open-air bar at COMO Maalifushi was named after the Maldives’ rock formations that rise from the seafloor. Between Thila Bar and Madi Restaurant, they’ve set up the buffet for tonight. We’re heading to Madi Restaurant. It’s softly lit, with a cozy atmosphere. The terrace right by the blue pool has many tables set up for dinner under the night sky. Great dinner location. The infinity pool looks so different now. Take a quick walk inside the restaurant. We’ll have breakfast here tomorrow morning. “Madi” means manta ray in the local Dhivehi language and features menus inspired by the region’s tropical produce and seafood. Night buffets are usually held once a week.
And tonight is seafood barbecue. Dishes like flaked tuna.
Mixed seafood salad. Ref fish ceviche. Banana chips. Mary rose sauce and papadams. So many poached eyes staring at me. Smoked salmon.
Sashimi selection. We can pair them with some pickled ginger, wasabi and soy sauce. Continuing the buffet tour with some cold cuts like prosciutto, pickles and marinated olives. Bresaola and salami. Grilled vegetables with pesto sauce. Classic Caesar salad. Wild rice. Bocconcini. Glazed carrots and roasted beetroot. Cauliflower tabbouleh salad and roasted pumpkin. Hmmm ..breads and butter. Focaccia and pita bread. Chicken buffalo wings.
Meat chops. Prawns and grilled tuna.
Sides. Some interesting sauces that we can pair with the meats. We can also enjoy freshly cooked lobster. Cheese and fruits platter. Tropical fruits platter. Mango cheesecake. Chocolate cake and milk chocolate mousse. Apart from the buffet, we can also order from the a la carte menu. COMO Shambhala menu. Wellness juices $17. Soups, Shambhala caesar, poke bowl. Main plates start at $32 for the Queen pea. Better with the lamp. Dinner menu includes Dibba bay oysters, $30.
    Beef carpaccio. Starters, Italian pasta.
Fish plates. The whole lobster is $120 and the T-bone steak is $195. Great healthy desserts. Let’s choose something from the buffet tables. By the way, the price for the themed buffet starts at around $150 per adult, excluding drinks. Nice starter plate. I love buffets because you can pick exactly what you like from a wide variety of dishes. I would like to taste everything if possible. This bread is still warm. The live music just started. It is a beautiful atmosphere and the music is very relaxing. Round of applause, please. Delicious food. I also ordered some dishes from the a la carte menu. This is the Shambhala caesar. Fresh bread with selection of spreads. YES We love a nice soft bread. Small fish on top of my salad. For the main course I choose to try the yellowfin tuna. It comes with bean, celery, green peas salad and almond sauce. Sides of grilled vegetables.
My daily green dose of photosynthesis. And the best part
You can eat as much as you like from the buffet. All the dishes are full of flavor and perfectly seasoned. The atmosphere is beautiful. The tuna is soft and has a delicate flavor. Dessert.
Mango cheesecake is on top of the list. OH Double OH Coconut sorbet and mango sorbet from the a la carte menu. It comes with a crispy thing on top. This is wow, everyone. Thank you for the food. Did I forgot to show you the bar? Probably I did. Sorry about that. Thila serves cuisine from Madi restaurant, as well as beverages around a warmly lit angular bar. The decor is unique, featuring a shallow pool that separates the two main dining areas. There are games such as Scrabble. It is a nice space to enjoy a cocktail in the afternoon or after dinner. Right next to Thila Bar, there’s a small studio with games and billiard. Different table games. The billiard seems to be new. It’s about time to explore the hotel during the night hours. The arrival pavilion and jetty are beautifully illuminated at night, with soft lights reflecting on the water below. The only illuminated parts of the island at night are the restaurants and the reception. So there is not to much to see. Back to out room now. The resort features beautiful golden lights along the overwater villas pier. Since this is a barefoot luxury resort, you can walk around the entire island comfortably all day long. Ready for the sleep. It’s been a long day. Looks like something has been placed on our bed. It’s a letter inside. The resort provides a daily activity schedule every evening, listing the highlights for the next day. Great indoor slippers. The in-room snacks have been replenished. Private pool is not illuminated after sunset. Our bathroom has been tidied up and refreshed. Don’t forget to brush your teeth. Hello. It’s already morning. And seems to be a happy morning. It’s currently 6:43 am. Even the fish sleep now. We can see a good part of the rocks from our deck. Let’s prepare for breakfast. It is so much quietness in the morning. We walked all the way to the restaurant to fully enjoy our last hours one the island. There aren’t too many people around since it’s still early, around 7 am. Bar is very quiet. Pool is quiet. Madi opens for breakfast at 7.00 am to 10.30 am. Big sign right here. The wooden ceiling and soft pastel tones give the restaurant a coastal atmosphere. Out on the terrace. We can see it better now. Pool looks even bigger from this spot. Breakfast at COMO Maalifushi is a semi-buffet with additional a la carte dishes made to order. What do we have here? Blueberry muffins. Almond croissants. Plain croissant and pain au chocolat. With coconut. (this one’s very good) Apple & walnut muffin.
Cinnamon roll. Poached pineapple danishes. Banana cake. Multigrain bread with butter. Mix berry jam, marmalade and homemade peanut butter. Honeycomb. Two kinds of watermelon. Papaya. Tropical fruit salad. Other fruits.
I don’t know the name fruit. Rock melon and pineapple. Marinated feta cheese and hummus. Kale. Salad ingredients. Dried fruit compote.
Poached rhubarb. Three kinds of milks. COMO Shambhala muesli. Flakes, raisins, nuts and seeds. Different yogurts with fruits. Plain yogurt and with chia seeds. Coconut and passion fruit muesli. Fresh juices like watermelon, orange, green clean. Infused water of the day. I can almost hear.. Peace. A la carte breakfast menu. Chef’s special menu dishes like garlic rice, chicken congee. We can order avocado toast, fresh pineapple juice and plenty of other made-to-order options. More options include “Very berry smoothie bowl”, “Ricotta hotcakes”. Nasi goreng, Madi breakfast. Breakfast is included in the stay, except for a few premium juices and special items listed on the last page. Let’s make a salad! Some feta.
Cherry tomatoes. Cucumber. Some dried fruits compote for something sweet. Topped with some seeds. I want to try their hummus. I bet this is the most delicious yogurt from their selection. Platter of fruits. Some pastries. Ok, ready to eat. Iced coffee with some sugar syrup. We’re now waiting for our dishes from the menu. This is the quinoa bowl. Our breakfast is ready. The bowl is with grilled tofu, avocado, marinated mushrooms, seaweed, broccoli, kimchi and ponzu dressing. Two free range eggs with bacon, potatoes and mushrooms. Golden waffles come with fresh berries, banana, vanilla bean mascarpone and maple syrup. I don’t really like orange juice so I asked for a pineapple juice. Well well well This combination is so well done. Everything tastes amazing. Also, if you come earlier in the morning, the waiting time for food is just a few minutes!! Nice crust for this croissant. Love a good sweet papaya such as this one. Look at this color. I saved the best for last. Golden waffles deserve a golden star. Alright, let’s head back to the room and get ready for check-out. Since our departure was scheduled for 9:45 am, we were picked up from the villa at 8:30 am. Goodbye dear villas. I will miss waking up to this view. We still have time to buy some souvenirs from the boutique. It’s called Shop by COMO. It offers a curated selection of luxury resort wear, swimwear and handmade accessories. Sunscreen and tanning products. Small souvenirs like keychains, magnets, and postcards featuring Malé city. Jewelry items. They are beautiful and expensive. Earrings, necklaces. Preparations and shopping for returning back home done. We’ve been so lucky with the weather, sunny skies every single day. The lagoon looks just as beautiful as when we first arrived. COMO Maalifushi left a wonderful impression on me. It’s peaceful, private and perfectly connected to nature. At the pavilion, we wait for our seaplane to arrive. Goodbye everyone! You are so lucky to live in paradise!! Now, time for some impressions of the stay. The villas were elegant yet simple, the food consistently delicious and the staff genuinely kind. I really loved the balance between comfort and nature. The barefoot luxury concept makes every walk on the island feel natural and free. Snorkeling, the deserted island picnic and the spa were definite highlights of our stay. From everything I’ve seen and experienced, it’s clear why COMO Maalifushi receives such glowing reviews. I’m really grateful for this experience. It’s one I’ll never forget. The flight is considered to be one of the most scenic in the world. What a great stay.
