Kurokawa Onsen Yukyo no Hibiki Yuusai Hello! This is Hozuki. This travelogue is about a 4-night, 5-day trip to Fukuoka and Kumamoto (plus Oita)! This time, I’ll be introducing “Kurokawa Onsen Yukyo no Hibiki Yuusai” in Kumamoto Prefecture, where I stayed for the fourth night (the previous night was at Kurokawa Onsen Senomoto Kogen Hotel). Senomoto Kogen Hotel is located in Aso District, Kumamoto Prefecture, just under a 2-hour drive from Fukuoka. There are also buses to Kurokawa Onsen from Fukuoka and Kumamoto, and it’s just a 5-minute walk from the Kurokawa Onsen bus stop! Yukyo no Hibiki Yuusai is a beautiful inn with a gorgeous view, and above all, Kurokawa Onsen! The water quality is top-notch, with seven baths all directly sourced! There’s even a free private bath, so you can fully enjoy Kurokawa Onsen! It ‘s also conveniently located to Takachiho and Kurokawa Onsen Town! And dinner is packed with delicious Kyushu delicacies! Amberjack sashimi, bluefin tuna sushi, and a spectacular robatayaki grill! The shrimp was absolutely delicious! And there was all-you-can-drink alcohol! It was the best buffet! There was even a bar lounge, so we had a great time! Breakfast was packed with vegetables and Kyushu specialties! Takana mentaiko rice and beef bowls filled us up right from the morning! The price was under 20,000 yen per person, right in the middle of Obon! (Approximately 18,000 yen) This time, I hope to share the charms of Kurokawa Onsen Yukyo no Hibiki Yuusai and Kumamoto Prefecture with you. Thank you for your continued support! First, we checked out of Senomoto Kogen Hotel, where we stayed the night before! The hot springs, food, and scenery were all wonderful! With such beautiful scenery, we headed to Takachiho! Driving through the grasslands of Kumamoto! How wonderful. The weather was also beautiful! We were almost at Takachiho! (Just over an hour from Kurokawa Onsen) Oh, there’s also Takachiho Shrine! I’ll visit it later! We parked the car and headed to Takachiho Gorge! Oh, there’s so much to see! (But it was 33 degrees that day…) And the river was swollen due to heavy rain! Unfortunately, we couldn’t go rafting. Oh, the impressive rock faces known as “columnar joints”… And when you think of Takachiho, this is the view! Finally, we saw the highlight, Manai Falls! Oh, it’s so beautiful… There are quite a few ups and downs! (It’s hot!) But the fantastic scenery continues! This is Kihachi’s Power Stone! It’s a stone thrown by the fierce god Kihachi, and it weighs a whopping 200 tons! What an amazing Kihachi. There’s also a waterfall near the walking path, which is cool and refreshing! And up ahead, you can see the Hermit’s Folding Screen Rock! It’s a whopping 70 meters high, a rock that looks like it was carved by a hermit! It’s incredibly impressive, so be sure to check it out! This is a place called “Yaritobi,” which is said to have originated from samurai jumping over the ground with their spears. Takachiho Gorge is a truly beautiful place with stunning natural scenery, and every angle is incredibly impressive! I’m so glad I came! Finally, I replenished my fluids with a Hyuga Natsu drink! It was delicious. For lunch, I went to Tomoemaru Shokudo near Takachiho Shrine! Apparently they serve Takachiho beef! I ordered the Chicken Nanban Donburi (regular). Speaking of Miyazaki, you definitely want to try the Chicken Nanban! The sweet and sour Nanban sauce and tartar sauce are amazing! The Takachiho Beef Seared Donburi is amazing! This is definitely delicious! The meat is super tender and the fat is delicious! The accompanying sauce is also delicious! Umami! I finished it in no time! Thank you for the meal! Next, we headed to Takachiho Shrine! It’s said to bring good luck in matchmaking and marital harmony. After purifying myself at the chozuya (water purification fountain), I decided to pray (it was cool and refreshing)! While praying, I spotted the Chichibu Cedar, one of Miyazaki Prefecture’s 100 Giant Trees! Wow, it’s huge! It’s amazing! Next, we headed to the shrine we wanted to visit! We went to Amanoiwato Shrine and Amanoyasugawara! The weather forecast said it would rain later! We had to hurry! The sacred object of Amanoiwato Shrine is the Amanoiwato, which also appears in mythology. The enshrined deity is Amaterasu Omikami! Well then, excuse me (bows) . Who would have thought we’d see a place that appears in mythology… We discovered the rooster that crowed to help Amaterasu Omikami escape from the cave! It’s called “Totenkou.” So cute. This is the entrance to the Nishi-Hongu Shrine. It’s beautiful. Now, let’s pay our respects at the worship hall! While we were praying… it seems we could see the sacred object, the Amanoiwato! (Once every 30 minutes) A priest will guide us and we can see it! Photography was prohibited after this entrance, but it was very majestic! While we were praying… we then went to Amanoyasugawara, which was recommended by a colleague! Apparently Amanoyasugawara Shrine up ahead is very beautiful! It’s said that when Amaterasu Omikami hid herself in a cave, the eight million gods gathered at Amanoyasugawara, and that a divine council was held in this cave! The place is filled with stones piled high by people praying! The view from the shrine was amazing, with a solemn atmosphere that made you feel as if the gods were really there. The view from the torii gate and the piled stones were so beautiful, it was truly a place worth visiting ! Just as we finished praying, it started raining really hard! It was so heavy we almost felt unsafe! However, it seemed to be a passing shower, and as we approached Kurokawa Onsen, it turned into a light rain. Just over an hour from Amano Iwato Shrine… we could see our lodging for the night! Our lodging for the night, Yukyo Hibiki Yuusa ! Let’s head to check in! As soon as we entered, we were greeted by a lovely lobby! The view was great! The hearth here is lovely, too. But first, let’s head to our room! Our room this time was on the third floor. It was named after a flower! The key was the old-fashioned type. Let’s go inside! The main building’s Japanese-style room is 8 tatami mats (with a bed) . It’s a Japanese-style room, but it’s nice that it has a bed ! The view is so green! We got a beautiful view of Kurokawa Onsen ! Wow, it’s great that the relaxation area also has chairs! It’s also nice that they provide two bottles of water and tea snacks! The set with the kettle and teacups is here. The teacups look lovely, too. And the refrigerator below is stylish! A bed is always better (← I have a weak back). Towels, tabi socks, and yukata are here! Tabi socks are convenient! The TV is here. There was also a safe below. And a haori coat in the closet! It’s also air-conditioned! It was a blessing (it was hot) . Next, the bathroom. The sink is marble. Amenities include a razor, comb, toothbrush, etc. The hair dryer is Panasonic! Next, the toilet. It’s a washlet type. By the way, this room doesn’t have a bath! It’s compact, but very user-friendly! After a short rest in the room… we headed to the bath! There are two private baths, and they’re free! First, we went to the Cedar Bath! (Luckily, it was empty.) The sink was spacious and very nice! Wow, what a great atmosphere! It feels great! It’s a wonderful bath with the scent of cedar! All the baths are apparently fed directly from the hot spring! It’s the best! Next up is Yawaragi no Yuba, Yutaki no Yu, and Jusai no Yu! This inn has a total of seven baths! This is Jusai no Yu, a semi-open-air bath with a roof. You can relax and enjoy the free-flowing hot spring water while looking out at the beautiful trees and streams of Kurokawa Onsen. The water is a chloride sulfate spring and a sodium chloride spring, and is very gentle on the skin, making it very soothing! Next up is “Yutaki no Yu,” where hot water flows down the back wall like a waterfall. The light pouring in from above is beautiful, and bathing in the hot water while being watched over by Jizo statues is wonderful! There are quite a few different facilities! Next, let’s go to Mahoroba no Yu! Along the way, there is another private bath, Nagomi no Yu. Ah, it seems there is a place called Keiryu no Niwa! Let’s go check it out while we’re here! Wow, what a great resting spot! A river really suits a hot spring inn, doesn’t it? Back inside the building. This is the slightly more expensive room area! And next to it is Mahoroba no Yu. It seems there are Bamboo Grove Bath, Sohinoki no Yu, and Keiryu no Yu in the back! At this time, the men were in Bamboo Grove Bath! The women’s baths are Sohinoki no Yu and Keiryu no Yu! Now, let’s enjoy! Bamboo Grove Bath, as its name suggests, is surrounded by a bamboo forest, and is the most popular bath at Yukyo Hibiki Yusai! The illuminated bamboo forest at night creates a beautiful atmosphere, soothing both body and mind! This bath is quite spacious, allowing for plenty of time to relax. I recommend taking a leisurely bath while looking out at the bamboo forest! The “Keiryu no Yu” bath offers a view of the waterfall at the source of the Chikugo River! It’s a semi-open-air bath that can be used even on rainy days, so it was perfect for us! And then there’s the “Souhi no Yu” cypress bath. As the name suggests, there are two cypress baths lined up next to each other! It’s also known as the “Meditation Bath” because of its cypress scent and atmosphere, and it was a very relaxing bath! After my bath, I headed to the lobby. It looked so refreshing! I thought I’d have a drink, but then I spotted some delicious looking snacks! Grab one! lol I think I’ll have a Coca-Cola Zero after my bath! It looked like they could even make shaved ice! Oh, I found the Anywhere Door! Beyond the Anywhere Door… was Kumamon! So cute! It’s so nice to have snacks and juices like these. Since it was before dinner, I ate modestly! By the way, if you look from here, it’s a huge spoiler lol. By the way, there is also an observatory on the roof! Unfortunately, it was raining, so I took this photo the next day! They have binoculars and it looks like the night sky would be beautiful! I went outside for a bit and there was a space where you could relax while looking at the sky, and an astronomical dome! Amazing! Wow, I wonder what this thing is… It’s a really nice space! It looks like it would be fun to look at the night sky from here! There is another similar space next door. The sky is certainly beautiful! (I wish it was clear at night) It was a really nice space! I would like to go there next time! This is also my second day, but I would like to introduce Kurokawa Onsen town. Kurokawa Onsen town is about 5 minutes from the inn! There are sweet shops, patisseries, liquor stores, and more! I love the atmosphere! It’s wonderful! There seems to be a foot bath as well (it was closed at the time). Ah, the atmosphere is just too wonderful… It was a very charming sight, and I would like to stay at other inns! It was a very relaxing space… I want to eat something! Lol, it’s the Dora Dora Burger! Looks delicious! The cafe au lait flavor was recommended by the restaurant! Delicious! We returned to the inn… and it was time for the long-awaited dinner! Woo hoo! We had dinner at the restaurant on the third floor, “Yuzentei”! Jizo statues are standing on both sides! It looks wonderful. Oh. We spotted Kumamon. He’s riding a skateboard! After checking in, we headed to the venue! It’s huge. We grabbed trays and plates and headed out! First up was sushi! Boiled shrimp and raw shrimp. I think I’ll have some raw shrimp! And we’ll have some eel too! And egg and bluefin tuna! Bluefin tuna!? I have to have that! Of course we’ll have the salmon next to it! There was also squid next to it! The skewer corner! Amazing! I think I’ll have some tomato cheese first! Then we had king oyster mushrooms, and some big shrimp! Edamame , Nagoya-style fried chicken, fried horse mackerel, and potatoes. The fried food corner! Lotus root, yam, quail, fried shrimp. I think I’ll have some fried shrimp! The salad section! First, I had carrots, followed by pea sprouts, and maybe some cherry tomatoes! Then I had purple cabbage! I thought I’d have some salad egg dressing! But they didn’t have any… I had some sesame-like dressing! Is this a vegetable? Homemade pickles, bok choy namul, ganmo (fish cake) and green beans. I’ll have the bok choy namul! I think I’ll have some enoki mushrooms with sesame dressing too! The cold dishes section! First, my favorite salmon! I love salmon carpaccio! Let’s eat! Next is roast beef! It looks delicious! I’ll have it with grated daikon radish and ponzu sauce. It ‘s actually whole amberjack sashimi! I have to have that! And seared bonito! I’ll have this too! I’ll have this with ponzu sauce. They have not only alcoholic drinks but also non-alcoholic drinks! They have all-you-can-drink drinks too! I think I’ll have some beer! Oh. I also found Kumamon. So cute. Hozuki’s Choice – First up, a seafood feast! – The salad is fresh and looks delicious! And bonito! I love seared bonito! Enoki mushrooms with sesame dressing, bok choy namul, and baked tomato and cheese! Salmon, bluefin tuna, eel, and raw shrimp sushi! Salmon carpaccio and amberjack sashimi, shrimp and meat! And of course, beer goes well with good food! I think I’ll eat it like this! First off… a toast . Ah, beer is delicious! It was so hot today, so it’s even better! First up, a salad with veggies. Fresh and crunchy! The enoki mushrooms with sesame dressing are delicious. Maybe spinach? The bok choy namul, the bok choy and sesame oil are delicious! The salmon carpaccio is amazing! It’s got just the right amount of fat! The amberjack sashimi is beyond firm and bouncy! Fresh! The only meat. Soft and delicious! The bonito is fresh too! It’s delicious. Salmon! I love salmon as much as Kuma, so it’s irresistible! The umami of the bluefin tuna! You have to try this ! The fried shrimp is so good. The umami is in the batter. The shrimp festival is on! I also had some robatayaki shrimp! The insides were huge and plump! So good! The combination of robatayaki and beer is just irresistible! I started off with eel (a luxury). It was fragrant and delicious! Then I had shrimp again. Raw shrimp is great too! It’s sweet! And the tomato cheese! This is so good! The melted cheese! The robatayaki king oyster mushrooms were also delicious! So I finished the first serving! Of course I’m going for seconds ! I think I’ll start with chawanmushi! It’s freshly fried! I’ll have some fried quail eggs! I’ll have some fried lotus root too! I’ll have some fried yam to complete my meal! Oh, there’s the rice and curry section! (I’ll come back later) It’s great that they have two levels of spiciness for the curry! I’ll also have some braised pork, which goes well with beer! Oh, the double-cooked pork has been replaced and is gone… I’ll have some bite-sized pan-fried dumplings instead! I’ll have that delicious salmon again! The amberjack was so tasty, I’ll have it again! The pickles were also really good! I’ll have the Nagoya-style fried chicken that I was curious about earlier! I think I’ll have the robatayaki yakitori too! The shrimp was so good, I’ll have it again. I’ll have the tomato cheese again too! Oh, they have a lot of shochu! That’s great! I had the sweet potato shochu “To my heart’s content”! I’ve become addicted to shochu and soda on this trip! Hozuki’s choice – snack time is in full swing – delicious tomato cheese, pickles, and gyoza! Then braised pork, quail, lotus root, fried yam, and chicken wings! Carpaccio, yakitori, robatayaki shrimp! And the delicious amberjack again! The chawanmushi is also good! It looks delicious! I’ll pair it with the shochu like this and enjoy it! Cheers to my partner with shochu! Wow, it really smells like sweet potato! I like this too! Fried yam! There’s no way fried yam wouldn’t be delicious! Fried lotus root. Crunchy and delicious! The chawanmushi is delicious with the dashi broth! Potato shochu goes well with Japanese food! So good! Gyoza and alcohol go so well together… I love gyoza! Yakitori is also doubled in flavor when grilled on a robatayaki grill! And pickles refresh your palate. This is delicious! Braised pork is also delicious! This also… goes well with shochu! (I just love alcohol.) Quail eggs are so good, aren’t they? I love them. Beer is always the best with fries! These are also delicious! Nagoya-style chicken wings. Crispy and delicious! Peppery! I love the shrimp in this robatayaki. Fragrant and plump! The amberjack is irresistible. Fresh! So I finished my second serving! I think I’ll finish this one next time! (I ate a lot at lunch.) Oh, they’ve replenished the double-cooked pork! Let’s eat! I finally had rice and spicy beef curry! I repeated the roast beef. Clam miso soup! Looks delicious! I also repeated the delicious enoki mushrooms with sesame dressing. We also had pineapple for dessert! (There was no melon.) We ordered the robatayaki shrimp again! We also had the corn my partner recommended! We also had burdock tempura! I really love the homemade pickles! We definitely had to finish off with ramen! Tonkotsu ramen! A simple one with green onions and bamboo shoots. They also had chocolate gateau and matcha chocolate! We got daifuku from the Japanese sweets section! Finally, we had a rice shochu called “KAORU”! *My partner ‘s choice was also a lol. We finished off with some delicious food and carbohydrates – starting with Kumamoto ramen! Wow! My partner recommended clam miso soup, and the spicy beef curry was also good! Then we had pickles, enoki mushrooms with sesame dressing, roast beef, pineapple, daifuku, corn, dengaku, and other robatayaki dishes! They also had double-cooked pork, and we got shrimp all three times!笑 Let’s finish off with a light meal of rice shochu! I think I’ll finish like this! First up is burdock tempura. It’s seared and fragrant! The double-cooked pork is also meaty and delicious! Ah, the clam miso soup is soothing…just right… The clams themselves are also delicious! Large clams! And Kumamoto ramen! It’s pork bone based and delicious! The tofu with miso dengaku is also very tasty! It goes well with alcohol! My partner recommended the corn! It’s fragrant and sweet! The slightly spicy curry is also delicious! A good way to finish off! Let’s go for dessert! I love pineapple. Refreshing! The daifuku is also good! Delicious daifuku! Phew. We had a lot this time too! It was a delicious buffet! Thank you for the meal! After a short rest in our room… we’ll head to the bar lounge and enjoy the 1/f fluctuation! Wow, it has a luxurious and wonderful feel! They have mixed nuts and popcorn! That’s great! Oh, they have wine too! Yay! That said, Kyushu is all about shochu! I’ll have some Ginshiro! I’ll mix it with some soda! So… let’s toast! This is rice shochu with a clear taste! It’s easy to drink! I’ll have just one glass, as I’ll continue enjoying it later! Then I’ll enjoy the bath again, and then it’s time to drink in my room! I’ll have a Muscat-flavored Aso Craft Sour, followed by a Hyuga Natsu Sour! And some blueberries I bought at the roadside station! Lol. This is how I want to enjoy myself! First… a toast with some Muscat ! It’s a sweet sour, and it’s delicious ! The Hyuga Natsu Sour has a nice tartness! I like this too! And blueberries! So fresh and delicious! It was a fun day! Finally, I’ll take care of my stomach and intestines with some Yakult ! I drank and ate a lot today! That’s all for today. Good night! Good morning! It’s sunny today! The clear stream feels great! And I’ll enjoy my morning bath ! Oh, the private bath I couldn’t use yesterday ! I’ll use Nagomi no Yu! Nagomi no Yu is open! The stonework is wonderful! The Cedar Bath was also nice, but I really like this one too! The washing area is spacious, and it’s amazing that it’s free! I enjoyed the best hot water right from the morning! After a short rest in my room… it was time for the long-awaited breakfast! Woosh! The venue was the same as last night, the restaurant Yuzentei! Seats were unreserved! I grabbed a tray and a plate and headed out! It was amazing! Seafood stewed with onions! This was rolled omelet. Looks delicious. Next was sauteed (fried?) salmon. Yay! Steamed clams with ginger! This is great! They had butter -fried shimeji mushrooms and lettuce, and then there was the bread corner! They had croissants, pancakes, bread, jam, and more! Salad! I had purple cabbage, and I think I’ll have some carrots too! I also had pea sprouts! (The others are still being replenished) It was robatayaki! First, I had satsumaage, and then mackerel! Takana rice, a Kumamoto specialty. Delicious. And topped with mentaiko, a Hakata specialty! Next to it was spicy lotus root! Obanzai with bok choy and fried fish cakes. Looks delicious. Harihari cold radish with sesame dressing also looks delicious! There are some really large natto and zaru tofu! It’s sauteed broccoli and bacon. Let’s eat. Next to it was scrambled eggs! This is squid natto! I think I’ll have some! Obanzai again. I’ll have simmered eggplant! It’s pickled wakame stems. Looks delicious! There’s Jersey milk too! I think I’ll have that too! My partner had something like this. A small amount, but well balanced! It looks great! Hozuki’s Choice – A super luxurious breakfast! Packed with vegetables! – First, we had a fresh salad, then topped our takana rice with mentaiko! Then there’s the delicious-looking squid natto, bok choy, steamed clams with ginger, and seafood stew with onions! Kumamoto specialty mustard lotus root! Spicy and crunchy, it’s delicious! Oh, the tomato stew is also good. I love it. The sausage is so plump! Good! The bacon is also delicious with a hint of pepper. The pickles here have just the right amount of sourness and are absolutely delicious! The miso soup was packed with vegetables and the dashi stock was really strong! It was filled with fried foods and other ingredients, so it was very satisfying! Even though it was midsummer, the apples were delicious! They were so juicy ! Pineapple is my favorite. I want to eat it all the time! lol We finished off with a coffee! We ate everything at Yukyo no Hibiki Yuusai! It was a delicious buffet! Thank you for the meal! Now it’s time to depart! Kurokawa Onsen Yukyo no Hibiki Yuusai was a wonderful inn! The price was 18,031 yen per person including discounts! (Coupon used, points taken into account) We stayed right in the middle of Obon, and with all-you-can-drink, access to the lounge, and hot springs (free private bath), it was a reasonable price! The inn was great value for money, with both the food and the hot springs being very satisfying! Finally, we returned to Fukuoka and enjoyed Hakata ramen! 1.
