“Kyoto Kitayama” Our first stop is Chill’s Kyoto in Kitayama. Located near Kamigamo Shrine, this spot offers menus featuring organic ingredients. The bold double-height ceiling creates an incredibly open feel, and sunlight gently streams into this sophisticated space. Japanese-style lanterns perfectly complement the atmosphere, creating a strangely calming effect. The second-floor seating offers windows that make paintings seem to float, along with views of the Kamo River. This time, we ordered a plate menu featuring Kyoto vegetables and organic produce. 【Store Information】

Closed: Mondays (or the following day if Monday is a holiday) “Kyoto Kitagawa Hanbee Matcha Latte” The matcha latte from Kyoto Uji’s “Kitagawa Hanbee Shoten” boasts an elegant, rich tea aroma. “Charcoal Latte” This cafe latte infused with pesticide-free bamboo charcoal offers detox benefits, making it a healthy and delightful drink. “Pasture-Raised Beef Roast Beef Plate” A luxurious plate featuring generous organic vegetables and slow-cooked roast beef. The lightly fried seasonal vegetables are sweet, and the “Inca’s Awakening” potatoes have a wonderfully fluffy texture. The meat, cooked slowly to perfection, is tender, and the red wine sauce enhances its rich flavor. It pairs perfectly with richly flavored butter rice, satisfying both stomach and soul. “Croissant with Prosciutto and Mascarpone” A breakfast-perfect plate featuring a croissant from Kyoto’s popular shop “Briant”. The organic vegetable salad is fresh and crisp, and the Awaji Island onion dressing is delicious. The croissant is topped with mascarpone and prosciutto, drizzled with honey. The croissant has a crispy, delicate texture that crackles when you bite into it, with a perfect balance of sweetness and saltiness. The rich butter flavor comes through beautifully, making it the perfect breakfast choice for bread lovers. Every menu item is available all day, so you can drop by whenever you like. It’s a slightly special place where you can step away from your busy daily life and savor a moment of quiet respite. With autumn foliage in fall and cherry blossoms in spring, you can enjoy the changing scenery from the window—I’d love to visit again. Now, on to the next shop. “613”
“Kyoto, Higashiyama” The second shop is 613, located in Higashiyama. It’s a place where you can enjoy breakfast, lunch, sweets, and drinks, opening in September 2025. The interior features bright, clean white decor that leaves a strong impression. It creates an extraordinary atmosphere, like dining in the kitchen of an overseas apartment. Delicious aromas and sounds drift from the open kitchen, adding a live cooking experience. This time, we ordered popular lunch menu items. 【Store Information】

Regular Holidays: Irregular holidays (Check official Instagram) “Grape Juice” Vibrant grape juice offers a sweet and sour taste with a refreshing aftertaste. “Iced Coffee” Coffee enjoyed in a lovely space signals the start of a happy time. Hokkaido pumpkin soup soothes with the rich, natural sweetness of pumpkin. “Hot Dog Plate” A hot dog topped with caponata, a stewed vegetable medley. Freshly fried potatoes offer a fluffy texture, while the cabbage and hijiki salad provides a refreshing finish. The caponata balances vegetable sweetness and tomato acidity perfectly, pairing exceptionally well with cheese. The sausage is juicy, and the dill mustard adds the perfect accent. “Focaccia Plate” A plate featuring handmade focaccia, scrambled eggs with bacon, and potatoes. The focaccia has a moist texture and tastes even better when eaten with olive oil. The scrambled eggs and bacon are fantastic on their own or piled onto the focaccia. It’s a great way to get your veggies too, perfect for a late breakfast or light lunch. The staff were friendly and great conversationalists, making for a delightful lunch experience. Only table seating is available for reservations, and the changing menu depending on the time of day is another appealing feature. Their baked goods and French toast are also popular, so I’d like to visit again. Now, on to the next shop. “ESPRESSO ATELIER KYOTO”
“Kyoto, Shijo Omiya” The third shop is ESPRESSO ATELIER in Shijo Omiya. A specialty coffee and espresso-focused cafe, opening October 2025. Enjoy special coffees crafted with the care of an artisan in their atelier. The interior, renovated from a traditional Kyoto townhouse, offers a soothing space where you can feel the warmth of wood. The interior design is full of attention to detail, harmonizing coffee trees with antique furniture from overseas. This time, we ordered the shop’s popular sweets and coffee set. 【Store Information】　　
Name: ESPRESSO ATELIER KYOTO

Hours: 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM　
Closed: Irregular holidays “LA CONCHA” The latte with the cute heart has a gentle sweetness and a fluffy, smooth foam texture. “PLAN DE LA VEGA” When I can’t decide on a coffee, my rule is to ask the staff for their recommendation. The balance of sweet aroma and lime-like refreshing acidity is perfect—just my taste. “Atelier Pudding Plate” A pudding made with the dedication of using two luxurious Sakura eggs from Shiga Prefecture. The rich, egg-forward pudding has a firm texture and pairs perfectly with the rich vanilla ice cream. With a subtle hint of espresso flavor, this is a pudding especially for adults to enjoy. “Atelier Tiramisu Plate” A popular tiramisu crafted by ESPRESSO ATELIER, known for their dedication to espresso. The mascarpone is creamy, and the aroma of soaked espresso is rich and vibrant. The name “Edible Espresso” fits perfectly, and it’s highly recommended for coffee lovers. The staff kindly explained the coffee to us, and their attentive service was soothing. Their morning menu featuring seasonal fruits and vegetables also seems popular and piques my interest. I definitely want to visit again to experience their special, top-notch espresso. Now, on to the next shop. “M Stand Coffee Sanjo Kamogawa Branch”
“Kyoto, Sanjo” I’ve arrived at M Stand Coffee, newly opened in Sanjo. I like the first shop in Keage too, but I really like the vibe here as well. The view of the Kamo River from the rooftop terrace is beautiful. I’m having trouble deciding which menu item to choose… I really love this stylish space. We happened to have the place to ourselves, feeling like we had the whole space just for us. My wife was delighted that the sofa seats she wanted were available. I ordered my favorite drink I’d had before, and my wife got the Osmanthus Latte. “Osmanthus Cafe Latte” A latte with a subtle sweetness and a soothing aroma. “Matcha Cream Coconut Water Americano” A drink I wholeheartedly recommend to coffee and matcha lovers. It’s even more perfect when enjoyed while gazing at the view of the Kamo River as the sun sets. It was a lovely cafe time where I could chat leisurely with my wife.
