Aoawo Naruto Resort Hello! This is Hozuki. This travelogue is about my trip to Tokushima and Kochi (3 days and 2 nights)! I’d like to introduce you to Aoawo Naruto Resort in Naruto City, Tokushima Prefecture, where we stayed for the first night! *For the second night, we stayed at Mercure Kochi Tosa Resort & Spa! AoAwo Naruto Resort is located in Naruto City, Tokushima Prefecture, about an hour and 45 minutes by car from Osaka. There are shuttle buses available from Tokushima Awaodori Airport and JR Naruto Station (reservations required, free of charge). There are also direct buses from Osaka Station, Itami Airport, Kobe, Kyoto, and other locations (reservations required, for a fee) . AoAwo Naruto Resort is a great value resort close to Osaka! It has a pool and a private beach, and you can even enjoy a festival experience and the Awa Odori dance! The open-air bath with an ocean view and a panoramic bath are amazing! And dinner is packed with delicious food from Tokushima and Shikoku! We enjoyed Naruto sea bream and Naruto wakame seaweed shabu-shabu, sashimi, sushi, tempura, and a tuna filleting show! And the Naruto sweet potato desserts were absolutely delicious! The breakfast was also substantial! The fish and seafood bowls were especially delicious! Prices start from around 14,000 yen per person, depending on the date and plan! (One night, two meals: as of July 2025). This time, I hope to share the charms of AoAwo Naruto Resort, Tokushima Prefecture, and Naruto City. Thank you for your continued support! First, we took the Hanshin Expressway and drove through the city of Kobe…to the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge, heading towards Tokushima! It’s an incredible bridge, just under 4 kilometers long! I’m always impressed when I pass it. There were a few clouds, but it looks like it’ll clear up! First, we took a short break at Awaji SA …I love it because it’s spacious and has so much to offer! Since we’re heading to Shikoku, we had some sparkling Pon Juice! It was refreshing and delicious! But what exactly was I trying to photograph? lol Okay, let’s get going! The ocean is beautiful, isn’t it? I got off at Naruto Kita IC, and as soon as I got off, I could see it! AoAwo Naruto Resort, with its lovely Southern European-style building! I parked my car and unloaded my luggage at the entrance. The parking lot was underground, about a two-minute walk from the hotel! Since I’m here, I’ll show you the beautiful exterior! The trees are tropical and Southern European-style! (I’ve never been there.) Thank you, AoAwo Naruto Resort! Now, I’m heading to check in! The stained glass at the entrance is so beautiful! Apparently there’s an Awa Odori dance performance in the evening! I’m looking forward to it! They also had samue and slippers for children near the front desk! This time, I was planning to stay in the “South Tower (Western-style room),” but they suggested changing to a Japanese-style room in the “Main Tower”! Apparently the Main Tower has more facilities and is more convenient! (The room is a little larger too.) My room is on the 6th floor of the Main Tower. There’s a door! Another door. The key was a card key! Japanese Deluxe . Wow! It’s so spacious! A lovely Japanese-style room! The veranda is also really spacious! And the view from our room… the horizon! What a beautiful view! There was a table on the terrace! (I didn’t go out because it was too hot, lol) Drinks and other items were set out on the veranda. 2 liters of water was included! That was appreciated. The coffee was kind of pricey! There was also a wide selection of teas. The blue cups and saucers were really nice! There were also two 500ml bottles of water in the refrigerator below! Back to the main room. It really felt like a Japanese-style room! The TV was quite large. The alcove was nice too. There was also an air purifier and a USB outlet! There was even another room! Amazing! We used this one as our bedroom! By the way, there was a TV here too. How convenient. Next, we checked the closet! There was a workman’s uniform there! Yay! Next, the bathroom! First, the bathroom! It was spacious and looked easy to use! The amenities were amazing! There were four towels…it seemed like a quadruple room. The cleanser and other items were from DHC! The hair dryer was from Panasonic. Next is the bathroom. It’s separate from the toilet. This is the toilet. It’s a washlet type and it was clean! Yes, it’s a very spacious and lovely room! Yay. The ocean view is especially beautiful! If only the Naruto Bridge could be seen, it would have been perfect! Lol After a short rest in the room, we set off to explore the hotel! There’s a laundry corner near the room. There’s also an ice maker, which is very convenient! First, let’s head towards the South Tower! The atmosphere is really nice. Oh, there’s a table tennis court. It’s spacious. There’s even a soccer game. You often see that in foreign countries! Lol Here, there’s a facility called “Awa no Kuni.” I’ll come back after 6pm. Next, we went to the main tower’s shop (marketplace)! Awaji Island is nearby, so there’s a wide selection of onion-based souvenirs. I also found some alcohol! Local beer and chuhai, etc. There’s a wide selection of soft drinks! Oh, I feel like I’ve seen something similar in Okinawa Lol I’m also curious about this nearby place… do they pick sweet potatoes?! By the way, it seems you can also rent colorful yukata! Opposite the shop is the open-air bath, Hanada. It seems there’s a Tsubaki no Yu (granite bath) and a Hinoki no Yu (rock bath)! Apparently, the men’s and women’s baths alternate at different times. I’ll come back later! Then, off to the private beach, pool, and fishing pond! The pool has a lifeguard. It’s so safe! And at the back of the pool is Aoao Beach Land! It’s the ocean! Oh, watch out for the Bonito Flea… you have to be careful! But I’m sure the raccoon dog over there will protect us! And the beach looks like this! In the back is the Naruto Bridge! It’s a pretty spacious private beach ! There’s even a fishing pond! Actually, I went to a nearby supermarket to buy some alcohol! Lol, Sudachi Princess! Sudachi is synonymous with Tokushima. This Nigori Sudachi Sake (¥1,078) really caught my eye! They also have a delicious-looking sour. I’ll buy some to take home. Speaking of Shikoku, it’s Millet Biscuits! There’s an incredible variety. Oh, I found some delicious-looking sweet potato buns (173 yen)! I grabbed them! The Sudachi citrus flavor was amazing! Lol . After returning to my room and taking a short rest… it was time to head to the long-awaited hot spring! Woosh! The observation bath is on the 8th floor of the main tower! Oh, I can see the beach and Naruto Bridge from before! On the way to the bath, there are the Eight Lucky Tanuki Gods. They say that if you hold your hand over them, your skin will become smooth! (My partner laughs) If you feel a sense of affinity with them… they say that if you hold your hand over them, you can get rid of belly fat! (This is a must lol). There are also tanuki gods who can throw fastballs, tanuki gods who can lift large rocks (?) , tanuki gods who can run fast, and tanuki gods who can do 100 hula hoops! (Pinpointed lol) After praying to the tanuki gods, it was time to head to the hot springs! The curtains are decorated with Awa Odori dances. Wonderful! Now, I’m off to enjoy the hot springs! The observation bath “Ruri” offers a panoramic view of the ocean! You can relax in the hot water while gazing at the horizon! The bath is filled with seasonal citrus fruits from Tokushima, which change with the seasons (Hassaku, Amanatsu, Sudachi, Yuzu, Yuko, etc.). You can enjoy the citrus-scented hot spring while gazing at the ocean. It was a wonderful hot spring where you could enjoy both the scenery and the scent! Next, we headed to the open-air bath on the first floor, “Hanada,” which we saw earlier! We’ll enjoy this one too! The open-air bath “Hanada”‘s Hinoki no Yu (rock bath) is a lovely bath with a charming rugged rock! It’s a wonderful bath where you can enjoy the sunrise and moon over the sea. The water is a sodium chloride spring, so it’s quite salty! As a result, it’s a very warming bath! The other bath, Tsubaki no Yu (granite), is also very beautiful, offering a magnificent view of the ocean! The tanuki statues placed there are also adorable, making it a truly wonderful hot spring! After returning to our room and taking a short rest… it’s time for the event! Let’s head to Awa Province! At this place we visited earlier, you can enjoy traditional crafts and festivals! Apparently you can paint Otani ware and make indigo-dyed coasters! There seems to be a wide variety of Awa indigo dyes available, and there was a fairly authentic workshop! This is the festival corner. The tanuki are cute. Here you can enjoy shooting games and cookie-cutting! There’s also a ball drop game for kids, where you can exchange the wooden plaques you get for prizes! There were lots of popular items, including sweets and toys! It’s almost time for the long-awaited dinner! Let’s head to the venue! Dinner is at Irodori, a restaurant serving Awa local cuisine! It’s a buffet filled with Tokushima’s seafood and mountain produce! By the way, reservations for the restaurant are required through their website before your stay, and it was so popular that it was difficult to get the time you wanted even a month in advance! Seats are reserved. We were shown to our table! We took our trays and plates, and started with salad! A green salad from Awa City, with coleslaw, onion, pea sprouts, Naruto wakame seaweed, cherry tomatoes, cucumber, and carrot. Broccoli, potato salad, and lotus root salad were also available! Dressings included French, green shiso, Caesar, and sesame. I think I’ll go with the ever-popular green shiso dressing! Sushi! There was steamed conger eel sushi (perhaps the wrong label?), and this one was topped with tuna. Then there was sea bream, a Tokushima specialty, and some seriously delicious-looking tuna! Next was lightly seared squid! We also had yellowtail! (There was shrimp, too.) I think I’ll have the steamed conger eel sushi too! Here we had boiled pumpkin and… red sea bream shabu-shabu! You have to shabu-shabu this! Apparently it’s best when it changes color a little! The Naruto wakame seaweed is also absolutely delicious! Shabu-shabu! Oh, what a lovely color and aroma! We’ll have it with grated maple leaves, green onions, and ponzu sauce! Here is Naruto sea bream bone stew, with summer vegetables and Naruto sweet potato gratin! Next is Chinese stir-fried deep-fried tofu, and miso stir-fried pork and eggplant. This is braised pork cubes with daikon radish. Let’s eat! Here are bamboo chikuwa and steamed vegetables. Thai chawanmushi! Let’s eat! (Ouch!) The kids’ corner. Kids’ curry and french fries, etc. This is pork tongue with salt and green onions. Looks delicious. This is local fish nanban. It’s good! While looking at the tuna shigureni… I think I’ll have some gizzards with shaved ice! I ended up having tuna shigureni too! Lol Galantine with sudachi pepper flavor and roast beef! I think I’ll get some galantine too! There’s also tempura! Maybe next time! My partner looked like this. It’s well-balanced! They even have tempura! Hozuki’s Choice – A lineup of delicious Tokushima delicacies – First up is a salad with Awa vegetables! Looks delicious! And then there’s sea bream shabu-shabu! Definitely delicious! There’s a wide selection of sushi! Tuna sushi and conger eel sushi, as well as sea bream, tuna, squid, and yellowtail! There’s also simmered tuna and braised daikon radish! Sea bream chawanmushi! It’s sure to have a great broth… The galantine is also luxurious! And it looks delicious! The appetizer set of pork tongue, gizzard, and nanbanzuke is also great! Lol I think I’ll eat it like this! Veggie first! The salad is super fresh and delicious! Shabu-shabu before it gets cold! The umami of sea bream! I can’t get enough! And then there’s the famous Naruto wakame seaweed! This is also packed with the flavor of the sea! The galantine has tender meat and a spicy kick from yuzu pepper! Ah, the gizzard and grated daikon radish go so well together… The pork tongue is also delicious and makes you want to drink! The local fish is also delicious! It’s fried perfectly and has a refreshing acidity! Sushi! Tuna sushi with sesame added! The conger eel is fluffy and delicious! I like this too! Next up is the local specialty, sea bream! It’s chewy and delicious! The tuna is also delicious! And apparently there’s also a fish cutting show after this! I took a break with some Thai chawanmushi. The broth seeps in… so good. The aroma of the seared squid… so good… I love yellowtail, it’s always delicious! The simmered tuna is also tender and delicious. Delicious. The braised pork belly is also tasty. The radish is packed with flavor! I finished the first serving! Seafood is delicious! Of course I’ll go for seconds! It was so good that I’ll have another serving of shabu-shabu! This time I’ll have it with spicy miso broth! I have a feeling it will be just as delicious this time! Of course, there was the delicious Naruto wakame seaweed! It was really long lol. I think sesame sauce would be good for the spicy kick ! I’ll have it simply with green onions ! Next, pork with tomato sauce! So stylish! I’ll also have the rose-colored roast beef! This one is with steak sauce … There’s a wide variety of tempura! First, I’ll have the Naruto wakame seaweed, and maybe some Naruto sweet potato! Then I’ll have some vegetable tempura and lotus root tempura! Shrimp tempura is a must! While looking at the eggplant, I’ll have some chikuwa tempura! I’ll have some onions too ! I ‘ll have some mushrooms too ! Don’t forget to get some tempura sauce ! I’ll have it with grated daikon radish. Now for the sashimi! First, seared bonito grilled over straw! Next is grilled frosted sea bream. Wow. This is Naruto sea bream. Amazing! Whole yellowtail sashimi too! This is amazing… This is Naruto sea bream with sesame soy sauce. Looks delicious. And then the tuna cutting show began! Wow! This knife is unlike anything I’ve ever seen! It’s incredibly sharp. Such beautiful red meat! It looks delicious! They keep coming back to show us! (Out of focus) Apparently we’ll be able to enjoy it later! Finally, we were given a drink made with the local specialty, Sudachi citrus! Hozuki’s Choice – Summer Tempura & Sashimi Festival: Served with meat and shabu-shabu – Tempura! Onions, Naruto wakame seaweed, and Naruto kintoki sweet potato! Plenty of food, including king oyster mushrooms, chikuwa fish cakes, kakiage, and shrimp tempura! The roast beef also looks delicious! A nice rose color… spicy Thai shabu-shabu! (There were too many spring onions) And a sudachi drink! A Tokushima specialty! A huge amount of sashimi! This also looks delicious… I’d like to continue with the second round! First, the wakame seaweed. Even in tempura, it smells of the sea! Delicious! The local specialty, Naruto kintoki sweet potato. Soft and sweet. So happy. Onions! Sweet and delicious! Is it from Awaji? Is chikuwa a local specialty? I love fried chikuwa! Bonito is delicious too! A rehearsal for tomorrow! (Tomorrow is Kochi) Grilled sea bream, so fragrant. And the flesh and skin are so tasty… and the meat! Wow! Soft and delicious! Umami! The sea bream shabu-shabu with spicy sesame sauce was so good I was in heaven… The sushi was good, but sea bream sashimi was also delicious! I reset with some sudachi. The acidity was pleasant. Tempura again! King oyster mushrooms are delicious! Wakame seaweed in the tempura tempura too! Naruto wakame seaweed is delicious. Stir-fried pork and tomatoes for a little change of flavor. The tomatoes work great! Sashimi again. I always want to eat yellowtail! Naruto sea bream with sesame soy sauce, a flavor that goes really well with rice! Lotus root tempura, I love the crunchy texture! And finally shrimp tempura. The classic is delicious after all. And with that, I finished the second time around! I’ll still be going for more! This is the udon section! There are a variety of dashi broths. I think I’ll have that a little later! I can eat the tuna from earlier! Yay! Since I was there, I tried a variety of cuts! Next, I had the Naruto specialty, sea bream rice! My partner told me that the Naruto Kintoki salad is super delicious! I think I’ll pair the sea bream rice with pickled plums. It’s Naruto wakame seaweed dressed in vinegar and miso! I have to try that! Udon♪Udon♪Udon from Shikoku♪ I’ll have it with the sudachi citrus fruit, a specialty of Tokushima, and since it’s hot, with cold noodle soup! Hozuki’s choice – I’m very satisfied with the specialty and freshly filleted tuna – ah! My sea bream rice (it’s become a stylistic beauty now) is made with Naruto Kintoki salad, Naruto wakame seaweed, pickled plums, and shiny, cold udon noodles with sudachi citrus. Freshly filleted tuna! It looks so delicious. Oh, welcome back! Haha. The sea bream rice smells amazing! It looks delicious. I think I’ll have it like this! Naruto wakame seaweed dressed in vinegared miso. The vinegared miso and the wakame go so well together! The tuna is so fresh! I can’t get enough! The tuna is rich and delicious! There are various cuts to enjoy! Delicious! The sea bream rice is also amazing, with the rice soaked in the excellent broth! It goes perfectly with the pickled plums! My partner recommended the Naruto Kintoki salad. It’s really delicious! The udon is refreshing! It’s chewy and the sudachi citrus is just the best! Ah, it was a delicious buffet. But I think I’ll finish off with dessert! Dessert! As expected from Tokushima, Imo Kenpi! These Naruto Kintoki narukoro balls look delicious too! This is Kintoki sweet potato soft serve ice cream! Looks delicious! I’ll have it with sweet potato chips! They also had roll cakes, peach jelly, and shiratama dumplings! Hozuki’s Choice ~ Dessert is the Naruto Kintoki Sweet Potato Festival ~ Naruto Kintoki soft serve and sweet potato chips! Imokenpi and Naruto Kintoki narukoro balls! Ah! I think I’ll finish like this! The sweet potato chips are also rich and delicious! And these narukoro balls! So yummy! Deep-fried balls filled with plenty of Naruto Kintoki sweet potatoes inside! The best! And the Naruto Kintoki soft serve with a strong sweet potato flavor. So happy. Paired with the chips, I was able to enjoy potato sweets to the fullest! It was a really delicious buffet! Thank you for the meal! Oh, it’s time for the Awa Odori dance performance! The Awa Odori show begins! It’s so authentic! The women are graceful and the men are dynamic! Amazing! The experience lasted about 20 minutes, and at the end, everyone joined in the dance! It was so much fun! And then we ended with drinks in the room! A fun day! Nigori Sudachi sake! Tokushima sake ! Golden drops! Tokushima sweet potato buns! Let’s enjoy Tokushima like this! First, they pour in the sudachi sake… and then we mix it with soda! So… a toast , so refreshing! The sourness and sweetness are just right and delicious! Then we have the Naruto Kintoki sweet potato buns, golden drops. The look of a guaranteed victory. This has to be delicious. (Actually, it’s for porridge) Here are small sweet potatoes simmered in yuzu miso and simmered ganmo (fish cakes). Sweet and spicy simmered eggplant! I think I’ll have some. Next to them, there’s also Chikuzenni! This is the pickles section. I think I’ll have some pickled plums. My partner’s order looks like this. It’s got lots of vegetables… What kind of bowl is that?! It looks delicious! Hozuki’s Choice – A healthy fish-based breakfast – Salad! I’m also looking forward to the eggplant, fish cutlet, bamboo chikuwa, Naruto kintoki salad, grilled yellowtail collar, and rolled omelet with wakame seaweed! And then there’s the sardines and horse mackerel, these are definitely delicious fish! The Naruto wakame chawanmushi and rice look delicious too! Two sour drinks and water! I might have some eggs offered to Ise Shrine! Wow, that looks delicious. I’m looking forward to it! It’s great that they have a shell holder and hand towels! I’ll also have the delicious udon from yesterday! (Gourmet) I’ll add some sudachi citrus, and this time I’ll have udon with raw soy sauce! I’ll keep it simple with a little green onion. Finally, I had some whirlpool soup! Hozuki’s Choice – Absolutely delicious seafood bowls and other breakfasts – First up is the seafood bowl! I’m looking forward to the eggs offered to Ise Shrine! Small potatoes, bamboo shoots, horse mackerel, pickled vegetables, and all my favorite things! Then pork belly and daikon radish, boiled komatsuna, fish cutlet with Worcestershire, Naruto sweet potato Yoro-yaki, and burdock! And the delicious udon from yesterday with raw soy sauce! The topping-packed whirlpool soup looks delicious! I’ll have it like this! This seafood bowl is just too good! It looks great too! This is small potato stewed in yuzu miso. Warm and comforting. Daikon radish dressed in Tosa vinegar without Tosa vinegar. That’s grated daikon radish…lol I love Tosa-ni bamboo shoots! Crunchy. Horse mackerel is soft even to the bone! Calcium! Finally, mix in the eggs offered at Ise Shrine! The seafood and eggs are just too good…a winner! Whirlpool soup with wakame seaweed, Naruto Kintoki sweet potato, lotus root, sea bream, and more! Delicious! Naruto Kintoki Yoro-yaki with yam, very piping hot! I also love burdock root. Crunchy. Pork belly and daikon radish! The daikon radish that has absorbed the flavor of the pork is the best… Komatsuna ohitashi. I really like this kind of thing. The fish cutlet changes when you add sauce! It’s like a snack! And the namasu makes it warm and comforting. I love it. Next up was udon! It was soy sauce udon, so it was heartier than yesterday’s! I love it! I decided to add an egg to this one too!
