Aka Island ! Hello! It’s Mori! Travel is an investment in yourself, so this time I’m bringing you a trip to Aka Island in the Kerama Islands, a must -visit destination for adults! It’s casual, yet pristine, with world-class beaches, making it a hidden gem for adults! Enjoy a leisurely look at this on a large screen! Here you go! Located about 40 kilometers west of Okinawa’s main island, Aka Island, part of the Kerama Islands, is a charming remote island with crystal-clear waters and a quiet village. As of 2023, its population is estimated at around 250. It’s a rare place that hasn’t been overly touristy, retaining its rustic, “Okinawan” feel. Aka Island has a long history, having flourished as a trading post for the ancient Ryukyus and playing an important role as a fishing base in the early modern period. During the war, it was also used for military purposes, but now it promotes the charms of the region while maintaining a balance between nature conservation and tourism. Wild Kerama deer (a natural monument) live on the island, and you can often see them on the island . Snorkeling is one of Aka Island’s greatest attractions, and you can enjoy the Nishibama area. The beach is a spectacular spot with a beautiful gradation of white sand and blue, and the crystal clear water is home to colorful fish and coral reefs. There’s a high chance of encountering sea turtles, and there are plenty of spots for beginners and advanced swimmers alike. On this quiet beach, you can splash around in the ocean to your heart’s content. Access is about 50 minutes by high-speed boat or 1 hour and 30 minutes by ferry from Naha’s Tomari Port . There are also many flights via Zamami Island, also in the Kerama Islands, with 2-3 trips per day . Getting around the island is generally by foot or rental bicycle, making it the perfect distance for enjoying a laid-back island experience. Let’s enjoy a trip to Okinawa’s hidden gem, Aka Island, together ! Zamami Island Trip Aka Island Trip Begins Hello! I’m Mori. Travel is self-investment! So, I’m on a ferry now. I ‘m heading from Zamami Island to Aka Island. Aka Island is a beautiful remote island that belongs to the Kerama Islands in Okinawa Prefecture. It’s about a 50-minute high-speed boat ride and a 90-minute ferry ride from Tomari Port on Okinawa’s main island , but I’m heading directly from Zamami Island to Aka Island, so it’s actually about a 10-minute ride . Maybe a little longer? Maybe 15? I’m arriving by boat. It’s a small island with a circumference of about 12km, with crystal clear waters known as Kerama Blue, and is a popular spot for diving and snorkeling. The weather’s not great today, so I’m just going to walk around town and do some bar hopping. Tomorrow is forecast to be a beautiful sunny day , so I think I’ll be able to capture the charm of Aka Island. It’ll start with rain and then clear up eventually, so it looks like a journey just like yours, so please look forward to it. Well, off we go! We’ll be there soon. It went by in a flash, about 10 minutes? It looks like we’ll arrive in 12 or 13 minutes. Starting in the rain like this was the case on Iheya Island, Ogami Island, and Tsushima Island too . So we crossed the river from such an open area . Here we are, this is my first time on Aka Island . When I say red, I don’t mean red COLOR red. We’re here ! Fast! Smooth! Awesome! We’ve arrived at Aka Port. It’s still a little while away . There don’t seem to be any rental cars here, so you have to rent a motorbike or bicycle, but with this weather, maybe I’ll rent a motorbike tomorrow. For now, I’ll go to the inn and leave my luggage there, or I’ll have to walk a bit to get there. Shall I go in here first ? There’s also something called Sango Yuntakukan, and there are lockers too . However, my luggage is really huge, so I wonder if it will fit in the locker? It might be hard to see because it’s shiny, but is this Aka Island? But when I say traveling to Aka Island, there are also Geruma Island and Sotojima Island? English: It seems that the basis of a trip to Aka Island is to visit Gerumajima and Fukajijima all together . The only way to get around is by bicycle or motorbike, but it’s a little rainy today so I’ll just tour around this village today and tomorrow will be sunny, so I’ll get up early and rent a motorbike and go to the lower part, to the edge of Gaijijima and to Kerumajima, then go all the way to this end and have a swim at Nishibama Beach. I thought I ‘d use any spare time to take some photos and end this trip there, but that’s what I was thinking at the time. Tomorrow is the only sunny day so it’ll be a bit hectic, but it’s the kind of island you can get around in a day so I think I’ll be able to do plenty of sightseeing. For today I’m just going to enjoy walking around town and drinking ! Also, here’s a diagram of the relationship between the Kerama Islands. This is Aka Island , and this is Zamami Island, where I went yesterday. Zamami Island is, and this is Tokashiki Island. There seem to be quite a few other uninhabited islands, and while you can get around the inhabited islands quickly, it seems like it would take quite a few days to get around to all the uninhabited islands as well. Here they also sell boat tickets, and there’s something called a Shiro statue. I was wondering what it was, but in Zamami there’s a statue of Marilyn, and it’s from “I Want to Meet Marilyn” (1988) ◼︎Director: Suzuki Junichi Original story and screenplay: Nozawa Hisashi ◼︎Starring: Yasuda Narumi, Miura Tomokazu, Kato Masaya Others: The role of Shiro was played by the real Shiro, but since the real Marilyn had already passed away,
it seems that the story was played by another dog . I believe Shiro crossed the sea on a dog paddle to meet Marilyn , or was it a lover? There is a legend that he went to his beloved Marilyn, and a statue has been erected there. What an amazing Shiro… but there are some deer antlers there . Apparently there are quite a few deer here. I heard that at night on Aka Island, deer called Kerama deer appear . It also says there are coin-operated showers. For now, I’d like to go eat, although my luggage is a bit heavy. I’ll look for a place to eat on my way to the inn. There’s a place called Yuntakukan, but I’ll take a look at that later. It seems much more spacious than Zamami, but it does have a laid-back feel. But this bridge is amazing. It would be beautiful if the weather was nice. Which one is it? Well, even though the weather is bad today, it’s starting to improve from now on, so I think there’s a chance that it might improve by the evening. I believe so! Even if that doesn’t happen, tomorrow should be a completely clear day with a zero percent chance, so this place is spacious , maybe? They’re not open? I was thinking of having lunch here, but let’s take a look. It says they sell ice, but maybe… they’re not open? You’re kidding me, right ? It says you can get seafood bowls here, but it doesn’t seem like they’re open at all, that’s a lie … It doesn’t seem like they ‘re open, there’s no sign of them being open , what the heck! It’s enough, I’m really hungry, so it’s not there, really, it’s true, but it’s so frustrating, I ‘ll pick myself up and walk. There’s some kind of marine service store. I wonder if it’s starting to look like a settlement from around here. I think I should be able to see restaurants around here, but there are a lot of beautiful block buildings over here . I came from Zamami Island, but the atmosphere here is different from Zamami Island, and it doesn’t seem like they’re doing a lot for tourists, it feels untouched , what’s there? I don’t even know what’s there, but it looks like there’s a cafe over here . Is that cafe open? Is it open? OPEN Yay! It’s here! Thank you for this oasis , thank you for my savior … Akajima Cafe and Food. It doesn’t seem like the kind of place an old man would go to, but it’s good. A cafe with a Google rating of 4.8 , Akajima Cafe and Food. guu guu. They also have spice curry. I’d like to have the sauteed chicken with one-boost mango juice. Wow, that’s great. For a moment I was worried I might become a food refugee, so it’s very appreciated . Let’s eat. It’s delicious. What is this rice , too? It’s not ordinary rice . Did it say something? It’s 50% brown rice. I can tell, even I can tell. The rice has some grains, but it’s made with shio koji, so this sauteed chicken is soft and delicious . It’s so healthy, you can suddenly have a meal like this. There’s a main dish on top of this , but that’s actually a side dish. Today is Sunday, so they apparently only serve spice curry on weekends . Maybe I should have that too? English: I thought so, but I think a lot of people come on weekdays, and I usually come on weekdays too. It just happened to be a Sunday while I was touring, so it’s worth it. It’s a bit disappointing that you have to pay in cash, but the dishes are all Okinawan pottery, so I can feel that they’ve put a lot of effort into it . Are they paper straws? Are they wooden straws? That’s unusual . They’re not paper , they’re wooden. They’re stylish . The baked cheesecake is rich and delicious . It ‘s not what you’d imagine being on Aka Island. Thank you for the meal . It was a wonderful cafe. As we talked, I learned that it’s been 30 years since they moved here, which is amazing . Apparently they originally moved here because of diving, but in those 30 years, a bridge has been built and a high-speed boat has started coming, but they said that the atmosphere of the island itself hasn’t changed much. It’s amazing that they’ve been able to live here for 30 years. It seems that they still go snorkeling and diving on empty beaches in the mornings. It’s really great that you never get tired of looking at the ocean every day. I’d like to live a life where I can swim in the ocean every day . I can see the school in sight. This is it! This is Lagoon315, where I’ll be staying this time. I wonder if I can rent a bicycle or something? It says “no photography,” and the school prohibits taking photos of students. The school itself seems fine, it looks like this . Where do I enter? Eh!? I can’t find the entrance . Is this the right place? English: They also do various things like boat snorkeling tours and beach entry tours that I saw here If you have something to do… Lagoon315It looks like this, and there are hammocks and tables too, so it looks like a good idea to buy something and spend your time relaxing here Showers and other facilities are shared, so you can do laundry too There’s a sink and a washing machine around here You can use it for 200 yen per use However, prices are going to go up a little from now on, so it may become more like 5,000 yen per use The toilet here is shared, so it’s clean Over here there ‘s a shower or shower room It looks like this, which is also nice I think they said this was women only Checking the roomThe room looks like this , it’s simple with a bed There’s a hairdryer and a mirror, so it’s really simple There’s also air conditioning The Wi-Fi speed isn’t bad, it ‘s great to have that speed on a remote island I’ve resumed my walk around town Now I’ve checked in to the hotel and it turns out a viewer was staying at the same hotel I’m really grateful that I’ve been talking to a lot of people lately I’m looking forward to the sunset again today, and I’m looking forward to snorkeling, which is so Mori Channel- like and great! I wonder what’s going on here? There are a lot of new-looking facilities, but the townscape and atmosphere really feel like a remote island. I want to go to the store, but is that it? That three-story building. I heard you can rent a motorbike , tuk-tuk, or bicycle tomorrow, but I ‘m not sure what to do about that either. I could definitely get around by bicycle, but I’m going to swim and sightsee tomorrow, so I want to hurry as much as possible, so I think it might be better to rent a tuk-tuk or something. But wait a minute, I’ve been seeing what looks like deer droppings here and there. I guess deer come out after all. They said there are a lot of deer at night . There are a lot of houses that look like they’ve been painted white, and this place feels like a hostel too. It was just a regular home . Um, can I see the ENEOS ? Is that a supermarket? It’s so quiet, Tatsuno … Tatsunojo? Is there really a Tatsunojo that says guesthouse & supermarket ? The supermarket feels more like an apartment ! There is a vending machine, so it’s safe even if you want something to eat at night. Opening hours: 8am – no swimsuits allowed. The Tatsunojo supermarket sells all sorts of things, like wine and vegetables, ramen like this , and rice. They also sell Mamiya kamaboko (a specialty of Ishigaki Island). I’ve done my shopping at the supermarket, I only bought things I think I’ll need for tomorrow and today, and I paid in cash. I’d like to rent a motorbike or something, but I wonder where they are? : It seems like you can rent bicycles pretty much anywhere, but I don’t see any motorbikes or anything like that.Suddenly , there’s a shrine-like thing here.Let’s take a walk around randomly. The rain has just stopped, so it looks like it’s on the mend.Just when I want to walk around town, the rain stops like this. It’s really quiet. At worst, I’ll have to cycle around tomorrow. There are cats, too. There are quite a few places like this over there that look like apartments. Will they be made of reinforced concrete to protect against typhoons? There’s an ENEOS here.Is this a cafe? It says CAFE or something. It says MAKE GOOD MEMORIES BEFORE GOING HOME and COFFEE BAR LATTE.CLOSED ?… There’s a fire station (fire brigade) here.It feels like coming to the port.I see, I probably came from around there.I came from there and walked like this, and went there today, but it was closed.Shall I go back a bit? There are some untouched trees like this. There ‘s also a three-story apartment-like building here. There are cats! They’re still there! Hey hey! Wait, wait! English: Ah, ah… I hid, am I coming back here again ? I’m here, this is a really small town, isn’t it? Hey… where is a place to eat at night? There are a lot of things going on here too, but there’s no one in the kitchen … Hello! Hello! Oh, are they open at night? Yes , until 9pm , they do things like tacos and pizza during the day ! Do they serve breakfast too? Yes, they do breakfast too! They’re open in the meantime, are they open tomorrow too? We can’t do breakfast tomorrow because we’re out of stock, oh, we don’t have any supplies? They arrive by ferry , so that’s what I mean. The ferry is docked right now, so it’s really… well, it’ll be after 12 o’clock, so yes , we have to have breakfast tomorrow, that’s right, sorry , no no, thank you , yes! Thank you Suddenly, music (the background music in the store) started playing, and when I got there , that’s right, right now, only the high-speed boats are running and the ferries aren’t running, so the bread and other things at the supermarket I was at earlier hadn’t arrived yet, but it said that they’ll start selling them from Monday, so maybe the ferries will be running again tomorrow? Hmm? Which is it? I can go this way too, I could go this way, but maybe I should start from this side or this side , hmm, as I thought, it’s completely different on each island, it’s like a maze, but I feel like I ‘m starting to get the hang of it, there’s a post office , amazing , so every island has a post office, yeah, yeah , yeah , I’ve always thought this, but what’s strange about going to various remote islands is that there’s just the right amount of izakaya, or shop, or cafe, right? It’s like in school, there’s always that one person in each class who leads the others, and it’s balanced out nicely, right? You wonder what would happen if everyone happened to be in the same class, with that kind of person leading the class? I guess it ‘s probably designed to be balanced out, for example, how can I put it, if a person with the talent to lead a class goes to a place where only people with the talent to lead a class gather, it’s more like only that talented person does it and the others stop doing it. So, on this island, if there was an island, someone would think that unless someone opened a restaurant, everyone would have nothing to eat, and so they stepped up and did it just right. So I think that human society is structured in a way that creates a nice balance, like no matter which island you go to , there’s always just one store. It’s impossible to explain it otherwise, right? If everyone wanted to run a store, wouldn’t it be okay for everything to become a store? Of course, that would n’t work due to supply and demand, but Maine Beach is the site of the Okinawa landings during the Pacific War . U.S. soldiers landed here at 8:04 AM on March 26, 1945 (Showa 20). This is where the tragic Battle of Okinawa began. They came up from here . I see, it says DIVING SERVICE here, too. I was talking about something important earlier, so I passed it by, but there’s also a cafe here. They also have a cafe and rental service, Orion Beer . You can eat Okinawa soba and pizza. A cafe with a Google rating of 4.2. Oh, Cafe. They do soy milk smoothies here. That’s great. Which one is popular? Our main meals are basically pizza, pasta, and soba noodles. That’s right. Shall we have pizza? Will it take 15 minutes? Order completed. There’s a place like Kakihana Shoten. It takes about 15 minutes for the pizza to be baked, so I’d like to just drop my bags off. My groceries are heavy, so it’s great that everything is so close. I’m thinking of going to a bar-like place this evening, but is it on this side? It looks like there’s one on this side. You can probably see the sunset from that side, so I wonder. I wonder if the weather will be better by sunset? I think it’s on the mend, though. Our viewers were hopeful, so maybe it’ll work out? The pizza is baked. Foo-chi-baa (mugwort) pizza. Guava soy milk smoothie. That’s delicious! Guava soy milk smoothie. Super delicious. Foo- chi-baa. It’s got a mugwort kick to it. Foo -chi-baa liquor. I drank it on Iejima. It ‘s like mugwort liquor. The smoothie is so loud, can you hear me? Is this okay? The mugwort is working. This would make a good snack. This is a snack, so I’ll have some rice. Snack snack . 3 o’clock snack . Exactly (afternoon) 3:48. 3 o’clock snack. Oh yeah, here’s a little trivia : the 3 o’clock snack makes a lot of sense. The less time you have to produce saliva, the more likely you are to get cavities. Brushing your teeth has nothing to do with it. Brushing your teeth is something you do to prevent periodontal disease, and to prevent cavities, you increase the time you produce saliva, which means it’s better to eat fewer snacks. Snacking too often makes you more likely to get cavities, so you don’t have time to produce saliva, and 3 o’clock between meals is the perfect time to snack, which is why people in the past thought it was a 3 o’clock snack. It teaches us things like that. Travel is truly an investment in yourself! Are you listening? I came to the rental shop, Sho-san. I’d like to ask you about tomorrow’s rentals. Just now, I was looking at Google Maps and put my iPhone in my pocket, and it seems like the phone rang automatically, so I’m sorry. Right now , I’m thinking about what to do about renting a bicycle. I could rent a bicycle, but there are some pretty tricky places to ride a bicycle. On the map, this is Aka Island, but Kitahama…not Kitahama, it’s Maehama Beach, no! Is it Nishibama Beach? It’s confusing , isn’t Kitahama Beach or Nishibama? I think you can easily get to places like Majahama Beach, but if you want to get to Kushibaru Beach, it’s a bit difficult to get there by bicycle, and it ‘s about a 20-minute drive ! Ah !!! Starting today? A viewer I met on Zamami Island! Came here this morning and just arrived! Deer! Deer! Wait, wait, wait, wait! English: He got away!
Damn it, they’ve left the viewers behind and come to a place called Sango Yuntakukan . Yuntaku is… Okinawan dialect for “talk” or “chatter”. It doesn’t just mean talking, but also for friends to get together and have fun, talking together. If you can rent a tuk-tuk here, you can go all the way to the edge, all the way to Kusibaru Beach, the visitor centre. There was a place like this in Zamami too. There are all sorts of things here too. This is a tuk-tuk rental. What an amazing car. It’s so dilapidated, it can’t be driven anymore. It’s come off and there’s a sign posted. This vehicle has been left abandoned for a long time, ▶︎▶︎ and is significantly damaging the island’s landscape. This kind of behaviour is environmentally damaging and may result in penalties being imposed in accordance with the relevant laws. It says that the owner of this vehicle is asked to move or remove it immediately , but will they be found? In a case like this, the owner may not even be here anymore. It ‘s scary. I still want to play. See you tomorrow! It’s so relaxing… Shall I go see the sunset ? It’s 6:43pm now , so it’s almost sunset time, and it looks like we could go see the sunset. I’d like to go to the bridge. It’s still cloudy over here, but the light has thinned considerably, so I think we can go. I thought I’d go to Maehama Beach Bridge, but I ended up in a different place . But this place is nice too, and it looks like it would be worth seeing . Ah, it’s a bit tricky, but I can see a little bit of sunshine. Isn’t this place nice too? This is Maehama Beach. I’m getting a little sunburned. I think I can climb here tomorrow. I wonder if I can’t climb here? It’s nice, it’s kind of nice. Parents and children looking at the beach like this are just part of everyday life. I’m getting a nice tan. I can see a little red in the blue ocean. And this sunset that gives me a glimmer of hope. When I came to this island today, I had almost given up on the idea of seeing the sunset . But if you do n’t give up, you can find hope. The reason I was able to find that hope is because I met a viewer along the way who said, “Maybe there ‘s one chance we can see the sunset! ” He said something like that and it made me realize, ” Yes, I did. Don’t give up!” It might not be the best sunset, but it’s still a pretty nice view. Tomorrow is a beautiful sunny day and I think we’ll be able to deliver it to everyone . Stay tuned! We start our drinking spree . As we’re walking, we see a ton of deer. They ‘re fighting. That’s bad. That ‘s bad. That’s bad. That’s bad. They’re really fighting. Hey hey, hey, this is bad . Is it the end…? I’ve heard that deer come out a lot in the evening and into the night, but let’s not worry about that and go out drinking! This is the place. It has a nice open feel. We went to Journey’s Kitchen -Ashiato-, a kitchen car with a Google rating of 4.9. The menu is like this, but since the ferry hasn’t come today, there were quite a few things they didn’t have, so we just ordered what they had. Yakitori is especially recommended, so we ordered all the different kinds . We also ordered the recommendations. The drinks were like this, so I ordered Orion first. They also have things like Habu sake , huh? huh? Homemade kimchi. I was also interested in this, so I ordered that. I actually met a viewer on Aka Island, or rather, we went snorkeling together on Zamami Island just before here. We happened to meet again here, and apparently he had seen my video of Kuroshima yesterday. I also really like Kuroshima, so I ‘d like to stay overnight and film again next year or so. I’d like to do something in a video I’ll release next year, but there are no vending machines or anything , yeah, there aren’t any, so towards the end I drank a cream soda or something and went to an Okinawa zenzai cafe, oh that’s right , it felt like my life was saved, yeah I thought it was really tough, but it’s still kind of cool right now so it’s easier, but what month was that? It was October but it was still hot, so I went the year before last (2023).I released it in March last year (2024) so it was good, but have you been touring islands? Lately I’ve been to islands , wow that’s great, what criteria do you use to choose? Why Kuroshima? I went to Kuroshima on Yonaguni and still have about two more nights left and the weather is nice so I’ll go somewhere else! Something like that? : We suddenly decided to visit another remote island, and Kuroshima was a great choice. It’s kimchi made with Aka Island radish. Let’s enjoy it. I could have been drinking since noon, but actually, I’m not driving today. And this is kimchi made with Aka Island radish. It’s chewy and has a wonderful homemade feel. Like lunch, many of the dishes are carefully prepared. They don’t just make it for tourists to make a quick profit, they really do make each one with care. They sell out quickly. Which is your favorite remote island? Is there a remote island that you liked the most? I’ve been there so far, and I love Ishigaki. Do you like Ishigaki? I’m Yonaguni. After watching Dr. Koto, I knew I wanted to go there before I die. It’s a great place . I ranked Yonaguni Island number one for 2024, so did I stay there? I stayed there. I stayed for two nights ! Overseas: Providencia? Wow! Wow wow wow. A very good place! Ah! This one? Chile? No no no! Providencia, Colombia . Remote island? Island? Providencia Island? Akajima, Okinawa Providencia. There’s an island in Colombia similar to Akajima and Kerama called Providencia. I highly recommend visiting this place. There’s still so much Colombians don’t know! Travel is an investment in yourself! The yakitori arrived. It looks so delicious. They said they make each one carefully, so this is the salt version. This looks delicious too. The chili cheese fries are here! They look so good ! I’ll have the island tofu yakitori. So good! I’m on a yakitori diet, so this is perfect . It’s like zero calories. The Ryukyu Dynasty (awamori) soda is delicious ! The meatballs are so good I forget I’m on Akajima. They have crunchy cartilage inside, and they go really well with awamori . The fries are a little spicy, but they ‘re American. The atsuage is delicious ! It’s delicious as it is, but they also have soy sauce , so it tastes even better with it . They ‘re fried so carefully, it’s almost chokingly delicious . There are deer here . They don’t seem to be glaring at each other or attacking, so I wonder if they’ll run away if you get too close? They do n’t run away at all. Hello , they run away . Is someone feeding them? Do the deer in the village get them from somewhere ? My family loves those leaves too. I sometimes give them leaves , but the deer in this village are definitely used to people, but the deer up by the sea and mountains over there run away right away. They’re really like wild deer. This one just fell off, so do horns fall off on their own? Yes, I was out walking and found this Lucky Shiro statue. Yes, yes, yes, there was a horn underneath there ? You can’t take anything from the island with you, so I think it must have just fallen off. They really don’t have any horns at all, they grow new horns once a year, so do you have to scratch them on trees like this to get them to fall off? They don’t run away much, so maybe they’re used to people? Are they used to it ? Can I touch them? They say it’s better not to touch them because there are a lot of mites and stuff, and they’re wild. I used to be able to tell the ones that come by by the shape of their horns, but now that the horns are gone, I can’t tell. I think everyone probably calls this one Masao. Everyone names their favorite deer , but that one’s lost its horns, so I think. But it only comes close here, so maybe it’s Masao? I think it’s Masao! Deer live by forming harems, so those who lose in a fight swim away to another place. Oh, really? Apparently, only the surviving deer create their own harem. There are quite a few deer who used to be there but are now gone. They lose and then… they can swim, huh? There’s the Aka Bridge from Kerama, right? That wasn’t there before either. Did they swim here? Were they originally over there? They’re called Kerama deer, and they’re a natural monument, but they were originally in Kerama and swam over here, and now there’s a bridge, so they cross over on the bridge. At night they fight, and they were fighting over their horns there just now . Now Bambi and little ones are being born, so are they increasing in number? Or are they not? We haven’t done an individual survey, but everyone is saying that they’re increasing, so I guess they’re increasing . If they increase too much, that’s a problem, but since they’re a natural monument, it’s better for them to increase now? But they don’t destroy crops, so do they have to build fences? Wow!? The photo is great. Let’s go to the second restaurant. Wow, it was delicious! Each item was made with such care, and I was even able to pay by credit card, which was amazing! I said goodbye to my viewers and headed to the next bar, though I might see them again there. I want to go to one more bar. I’m walking through an area I haven’t been to yet, heading to the next bar. It seems like there are quite a few settlements on this side, too, and I can see a shrine over there. Aka Island really does have a hidden gem feel to it . I really like the atmosphere. People have been living here for 30 years, and the person at the bar I was at earlier also loves Aka Island and wants to capture its charm in beautiful photos. It’s really lively . I thought, “Is this a bar?” but it’s not a bar, it’s actually a guesthouse. Are they having a Yuntaku party? There’s a bar if I turn right here, so I want to go there. It should be around here , right? Where? Is it here? It’s here! Yonamine House. This is it. A bar with a Google rating of 4.8. I’ll have some Yonamine House Whisky on the rocks . Maker’s Mark. It’s a good portion, which is nice. Mixed nuts. Oyster ponzu. Is this the only place? That bar-like place is a bar, right? Where are you staying? Lagoon, Lagoon! Yes, it seems like there are other customers, right? That’s right! One of my viewers was staying there, that’s amazing! Was that a coincidence? No, that’s right, you make connections like that? No, it’s amazing! People watch it quite a bit, I wonder where you were drinking earlier? And you connect with other viewers there too ! That’s amazing! I shoot on remote islands quite a bit, so there are a lot of people who like remote islands, and I think Aka Island is probably a place where people who like remote islands come. I see, there were n’t that many in Zamami, but I saw an older person walking alone, and it was amazing, they really let you in properly, I’m often told that it was too many, but it ‘s amazing! Amazing! Normally, if you drink on the rocks, it’s about as filling as this place, the service spirit is amazing! Maybe a watered-down cocktail? That ‘s how it is, where are you from? I’m from Kobe, Kobe? English : No, it’s nice. It was already raining, but from the moment we arrived at the port it felt really nice, it was the perfect place to relax . It feels like a hidden gem, I’m looking forward to tomorrow, I’m glad it looks like it’s going to be sunny. The color (of the sea) is really different, so I’ll take some photos to properly convey its charm . I’ll have some oysters, but sake goes better with them. Did they catch bonito in the past? How long have they been fishing for bonito ? It was my grandfather’s time, so bonito was commonly caught 50 years ago, but is there anyone still catching bonito these days? There are some individual fishermen who catch them, and it’s not impossible, but back in the day, everyone was catching them, and it was so abundant, everyone was catching them, but now they can’t catch them anymore . The current population of Aka Island is around 250 now? There used to be thousands! How many thousands? When I came here 20 years ago it was 400, but it’s been decreasing little by little. The population has remained flat for the past few years, but now kids in their 30s from the island are coming back, are they returning ? It seems like the numbers are decreasing and increasing, but it might get a little tougher from here on out. What are the children who have returned doing? Most of them are working at the town hall. Ah, not everyone has a town hall , but there aren’t any big companies. That’s right, there are things like inheriting the family business, but there aren’t any companies, right? There aren’t any. There are major diving shops, but there aren’t any companies, so is it a potential place to move to in the future? I thought it would be great , but isn’t Kobe fun? Kobe is a great base for my travels because my job is traveling, but when I stop traveling, I’d like to live somewhere by the sea, but I hope the circumstances of the family home will have changed by that time , so you never know what will happen. There will be no one left all over Japan, so places like this might not be a good choice, right? I don’t know if it’s possible, but if they don’t manage it properly, well, I’ve been to many remote islands and there are some places where it seems like there will really be no people left and services might not be able to be provided anymore. If it’s 250 people, then if it really starts to decrease all at once, it’ll easily drop below 100 people. I don’t know , but there are tourist attractions, so I recently went to Agunijima and Izena and they are doing activities to welcome migrants and I understand that they are building such buildings. Tonaki is doing it too. Is Tonaki doing it too? Maybe Akajima will move in the same way. I hope that will be the case, but for now the government is not taking any action, so it would be great if that happened. It seems like a good place to move… Well, I haven’t even been there for a day yet, but the atmosphere seems very promising. It’s just the right size and close to Naha, right? Naha Airport to Tomari Port… about a 10-minute drive. That’s great, isn’t it? It’s right in the center of Naha. I’m not saying anything bad about other islands, but Izena and Iheya are only about 30 minutes away, but it’s a pain to get there. This place is right in the center of Naha and the airport is close, so it’s convenient to get to other places and to come here too. It’s so beautiful and quite special, isn’t it? That’s right, there are a lot of people on Aka Island who have moved here, aren’t there? They say they moved here only last year, and the person at the restaurant I was at earlier said the same thing – that was two years ago. Everyone says Aka Island is really great, and the place where I had lunch today was like they’ve been here for 30 years, and they’re like, guu guu. guu guu. That ‘s right, it seems like they absolutely love Aka Island. I’ve been to a lot of islands, but I don’t often hear of people who are so passionate about the island they live on. So it’s really great when you can really tell that it’s a great island, but the atmosphere is really nice, and just walking around is fun. Is that really great? That’s great! After that, the conversation with the host never ended, and we had a fun conversation and delicious drinks. The night on Aka Island was amazing! It was amazing, I heard all kinds of stories. I was surprised to learn that Aka Island was originally famous for bonito fishing. Although they don’t catch that much anymore, there is an inn where you can eat bonito, so I decided to stay there on another day and I’m now feeling like I want to include that in the video. I heard it’s really delicious, so I wondered if it was okay to release this video without filming it ? That’s it! I think it’s the inn here. I’ll come back next time! Day 2 of my Aka Island trip starts. Good morning . It’s now 6:04 and we’ll be able to see the sunrise in 10 minutes. It’s a beautiful, cloudless day with no clouds. Miracles happen, it’s amazing! But I’m not good at mornings, so my mind still feels cloudy. But as expected, there are still clouds in my head . Hurry, hurry, hurry, hurry, hurry, hurry, hurry, it ‘s here! But it looks like it’ll take a while. We’ve made it to the Aka Bridge . Everyone’s here to see the sunrise. We’re here! Everyone’s so excited! It was worth getting up early this morning. It started out rainy yesterday, but we did it. The weather forecast predicted clear skies, but with island weather, that doesn’t always work. I ‘m so glad it turned out sunny! Aka Kindergarten, Elementary School, Junior High School. Aka Kindergarten, Elementary School, and Junior High School are all in the same building here, so it feels like a kindergarten, elementary school, and junior high school . Breakfast at the inn. There didn’t seem to be any restaurants serving breakfast, so I’ll have something I bought at the store yesterday for breakfast. Please be careful, everyone. We had brown sugar, a specialty of Okinawa , and peanuts. And, this isn’t Okinawa-related, but it’s good for protein. Check-out: We checked out at 9:30. Wow, it’s already a beautiful sunny day! We’re here! It’s a bit windy, but I want to go sightseeing. Normally I ‘d go by bicycle or motorbike, but I’d heard that cycling can be quite a steep climb, so I thought I’d go by motorbike. But they offer tuk-tuks, which are a bit pricey, but I want to take as many photos as I can in half a day, so I’ll take the tuk-tuk! I have a little bit of luggage, so I’ll finish sightseeing and then go for a swim! Apparently the fishing cooperative that was closed yesterday is open on weekdays, so it looks like it’ll be open today. I could have lunch there, so I’ll think about it for a bit. After hearing about yesterday’s bonito, I want to eat some, but I wonder if they serve lunch at the guesthouse. It looks completely different after all. When it’s sunny, the lunch I had yesterday is also CLOSED. They don’t serve breakfast. To begin with, the ferry Zamami hasn’t brought any luggage, so they’ll be opening at 12 o’clock, so it ‘s like they’re starting slower than usual. Zamami Village Fisheries Cooperative Aka Direct Sales Store. And what’s more, the fishing port is so blue, it’s amazing. It’s a little foggy, but the view is incredible . It’s Akajima, but it’s blue . No, it ‘s not a color, it’s amazing . Is it the sunglasses effect? That’s great , isn’t it the best ?! And of course the fishing port is… the fisheries cooperative? There’s a banner that says “Tsukedon”! It’s open! I’m so happy I’ve heard this place is delicious so I really want to eat here You can use PayPay They’re already open from 10am and will close when they sell out Marbled mackerel rice bowl Two kinds of rice bowl and Shudorimon… ah but it doesn’t have that in it as expected Bonito The famous bonito The bridge is also a great view Well then I’ll head out now I forgot something so I went back to get it Wow it’s great! Navigation is difficult but it feels good! We’ll go over that bridge Come on, we’ll be almost there The bridge ! Feels good! This is nice Baby goat, baby goat We’ve come all the way to the edge This is the airport We’ve made it to the airport It seems like this airport is only used in emergencies It ‘s rarely used so it’s really rare to see a plane flying here Kerama AirportThis is Kerama AirportIt says KERAMACan you see it over there? It says KERAMA and this is Kerama Airport. It looks like I can go in, but is it okay? Well, I can . There’s a waiting room like this. It feels like someone is there. The lights are on in the office. Maybe a plane is arriving today? Right in front of this airport is an observation deck. It’s a foreign observation deck so there’s a fence like this so I wonder if I’m not allowed in? But I think it’s probably just to keep deer away and I heard yesterday that it’s okay to open it and go in. So I open it and go in. I’ve avoided a tiring bicycle journey by taking a tuk-tuk, but were there any stairs? It’s really quiet and deserted , and beautiful flowers are blooming. The flowers are welcoming me as if they’re leading me to paradise. There are flowers of all colours and here come the butterflies ! The airport is really visible , and the runway is quite long. It’s a long runway like this, and the boat is heading back now. There ‘s a beautiful island over there, and that place is beautiful too. This place is incredibly beautiful, it’s amazing.I’d love to swim there. On my way to the next spot , I’ll head back for now and go to a nice spot. This downhill would be nice by bicycle, but a tuk-tuk would also be nice. What ‘s around here? What? There’s nothing there? I saw the World Peace Memorial below me earlier, so I thought I’d take a look.Make a U-turn , it’s easy to make a U-turn, and it’s easy to maneuver. This is right in front of me, it’s so beautiful! I said the handbrake doesn’t work very well , but it really doesn’t work… Waaaaah, this is impossible, what is this? No way, no way, no way, wait a minute, wait wait wait , okay! … It ‘s not okay at all! Let’s park properly. The World Peace MemorialThis is the World Peace Memorial. The 77th US Army Division was the first to land on Japanese soil. The Ryukyu Islands. What was this? What island was it? The American flag is raised and saluted on Sotojima Island. There’s something written here too. The flag has been raised. It looks like we’ve occupied this place . The easiest landing operation of the day was Sotojima Island. This island is about 1.5 kilometers long and 0.8 kilometers wide, and lies 200-300 meters south of Geruma. It’s an atoll that connects the two archipelagos. They secured this island without any real resistance, so they took it so easily. It’s so beautiful! This beach is amazing ! On to our next destination. Geruma Bridge . It says Geruma Satohara Line. The bridge looks like this, and there’s coral here, and… deer horns and the view from here is amazing. The Peace Memorial Monument we saw earlier is below. This is amazing. I’m glad it’s sunny and great ! I want to go to the next spot! It was amazing! This bridge. We’ll arrive at the next spot in no time. Houses? Are there any old-fashioned houses left? I want to go there, but how do I get there? Hmm? There’s a Pension Germa around here too, and some people are walking around. To me, it’s too reckless. This is another small settlement. There’s a restaurant here, and it’s mostly reservation-only. I read that they serve course meals. I ‘d like to go there next time I come. I took a wrong turn . Am I on the right path? What’s going on? I’ve turned down a strange road. Is it actually here? It’s here! Is it around here? Ah! There it is! It says Takara’s House . Let’s stop for a bit. The Takara House. We’ve arrived at the Takara House, but ! What a surprise… Is the Takara House closed? It’s closed. What a shame. I wanted to see the Takara House. Let ‘s take a look from above. It looks like it’s been beautifully maintained, but what a shame. We’re heading to Kusibaru Beach at the very edge now , but the road is really bumpy. They said it’s impossible to get there by bicycle, but can we get there by tuk-tuk? It’s pretty steep, aaaah. But there’s no way we wouldn’t rent a tuk-tuk and go all the way here, so I want to go! The gate is open here too, amazing! We can enjoy some little attractions here , and we’re going by bicycle! Are you kidding me? That’s amazing. They look pretty cool, and the foreigners have incredible stamina. Wooooooooow , woohoooow ! Did they go there?! They’re… incredible! It’s amazing, I didn’t even break a sweat if I went there by bike like that . In fact, I’m sure I’d get a flat tire. It was the same on Zamami Island. I thought no one would go to the beach on the edge, but there were foreigners there on their normal mamachari bikes , and some even walking. They really are incredible physically . When you think about it, I don’t know if I should say they’re a monster of a monster, but I mean it as a compliment . They have such incredible physical strength, so different from Japanese people , and the athletes who are active among them are incredible. It’s incredible. Ohtani, soccer players Kubo and Mitoma, they’re incredible . Did they actually go there by bike? It’s really amazing! And it was a woman too. I wonder if one of them gave up halfway through? But those satisfied looks on their faces showed that they had already done their best. Hey hey , your battery is at 35%. Is that okay? Can you go home? I think I’ll probably recover on the downhill, but the uphill is tough. I’m going full throttle but I just can’t climb. Go go go. Also, I saw a spectacular view for just a moment, but I’m basically surrounded by forest so I can’t see the view anymore… I could just give up and go home, but I’ve come this far so I can’t give up. Hasn’t that happened to everyone? There are many times when I feel like quitting, but then I think, “I’ve already put one foot in, so I have no choice but to see it through.” At times like those, I think the strength to see it through is important! When I look at various people, I see a lot of patterns in people who are not doing well, where success is right in front of them, but they give up just before success, and you often see pictures like that shared on social media. Oh! There was a deer! REPLAY▶︎It
got away! It got away… There was a wild deer, but it got away . What were we talking about? That’s right, there’s a picture on social media of someone digging a hole, and if they keep digging without giving up, they ‘ll find gold nuggets, but many people give up just one centimeter away, and it ‘s exactly like that here . They say it’s getting too hard, so let’s turn back, and if they turn back, there ‘s a chance that an incredible view is waiting for them, but they still give up . It teaches us things like that! I wonder if we’ll see any deer on this trip to Aka Island ? Deer are also an investment in themselves! Just a little more! 8 minutes left The navigation system says 8 minutes left Wooooow It’s recovering on the downhill slope The tuk-tuk’s battery is recovering on the downhill slope It’s recovered to 50% Is it almost there? Not yet? Did they really go there? Those people are so crazy, this is amazing! Another climb, this is tough on a bike , 6 minutes left Kusibaru Beach, 1.6km left Who could possibly be filming a place like this without cuts, and in 4K 60P?
: The one that takes up the most space, this is amazing! This will be hell for people cycling home. Why have they built a road in a place like this? Is Kushibaru Beach really that amazing? Is it an important beach for the islanders too? Otherwise they wouldn’t have gone to the trouble of building a road out of concrete like this, right? Just a little bit more! Four more minutes! You could even make instant ramen here! That ‘s close! It’s like Mario Kart, we’re almost there! Here it is! Amazing! This is amazing! Ohhhhhh, can we hurry ?! This is similar to the excitement I felt when I saw Nishihama Beach in Hateruma . Should I stop here or stop now? Kushibaru Beach We’ve come to Kushibaru Beach, the last unexplored part of Aka Island. Many people probably won’t be able to come here, so we’ve come here on perfect weather. Look everyone, this is Kushibaru Beach! Here it is ! This is a spectacular view. The transparency is incredible. It’s truly untouched. There’s an observation deck nearby, so let’s go there! Is it this? Should we climb from there? We’ll start from here! Kushibaru Observatory Now, let’s go to Kushibaru Observatory. As expected, this observation deck doesn’t seem to be well maintained. But did that foreigner really come here by bicycle? Have they arrived? Or rather, have they arrived? Amazing! The stairs are quite steep from here. Can we really see a good view? It was fun using the tuk-tuk, but these stairs are quite tiring, so for people who came by bike, it’s really a test of physical strength. Okay , here we are! Can we really see anything? It’s kind of scary to climb up to this observation deck. It’s rotten , no , no, you can’t see much. The trees are so overgrown that you can’t see anything at all . I can’t see anything. Is this just how it is? If we don’t maintain it properly, our visibility becomes poor. It ‘s the same in our lives, is n’t it? Can you just sit there and enjoy a good view? It’s not that easy, is it? After all, you can’t see the best view unless you maintain it properly. It’s a daily grind. It’s important to work hard every day, and this observation deck was there to teach us that . It helps us to have that kind of perspective. Definitely not. Amagi Observatory. I’ve come to Amagi Observatory.
Amagusuku. This isn’t an observation deck, but the view from the observation deck’s parking lot looked nice, so I came . I wonder if I can do it if I stand up? Amazing! This is great, I’m glad it’s sunny, thank you! And that thing you see over there is probably a beach. It looks like a beach with lots of coral visible here too. I’d really like to swim here too. Now, let’s head to the observation deck. Heading to Amagi Observatory. Here we are, here we are, here we are. There are some fence-like things, what are they for? Are they growing trees there now? It’s a mystery. What kind of view will we see? What kind of view will it be? There are so many observation decks, we can’t go to them all, so should we come? Amazing! This place is nice too, kayaking. Nice, spectacular view. Look, kayaking. And this blue , this is amazing . I said Amagi Observatory, but it was Amakusuku Observatory. It was an Okinawan trap. We almost crossed the Amagi Pass. It’s dangerous , dangerous , or rather, I was wrong. Now, we’re heading to a place called Hizushi Beach. Wow, it’s so steep , it looks slippery. It’s like a slide. If I wear slippery shoes, I’ll probably slide right down. Why don’t they make stairs here? It has a really unexplored feel. It seems like locals swim here too, so it looks nice. Hizushi Beach is beautiful, the water is so clear, it’s great ! Amazing! This is nice too. There are people reading books and it’s great to lie down. This beach feels private. Amazing! Beautiful! I ‘d like to go to a seafood bowl restaurant with a Google rating of 4.7. It was closed yesterday but is open today, so I’d like to go! I think they have a 3-item bowl. Do they still have a 3-item bowl? Yes, they do , so please! Can I take a video of you filleting it? It’s fine . I heard that in the past, a lot of bonito was caught here. Is bonito fishing completely gone now? There are people who go out to catch bonito individually, but there are no bonito boats anymore. There are bonito boats, and they’re big boats. Is that what you mean? The people who used to operate bonito boats are around 90 years old, so it was a long time ago. So does that mean they can’t catch bonito here anymore? No , you can still catch bonito here. By “bonito here,” I mean they don’t sell bonito here? There are bonito over there now, is that really true? So there are n’t enough bonito boats to distribute them anymore , so that ‘s why they don’t serve them as a bowl here anymore? There was a time when they served something like bonito bowls, but bonito spoils quickly, so it doesn’t last long, so is that the case? Thank you for not serving them ! I learned something! I’ll have the 3-item bowl ! Looks delicious! Seafood. I didn’t eat any seafood yesterday. I just had oysters for one reason or another. They said at the bar that they had stopped serving bonito bowls, but I hope they bring it back. It seems like they’re still catching some, even if it’s limited. Even with bonito , there isn’t enough to distribute to the whole of Okinawa, and there aren’t any boats to catch them . I bought a drink at the shop yesterday . Tropical mango guava I bought at the shop yesterday. A viewer who was staying at the same inn as me just now came running over and told me that it would be good to swim around the area where I had already swam, so I went around on my bike. Normally you might cycle around, but it’s too much for an old guy like me. I’ll get some proper nutrition and go for a swim. Kitahama Beach. I’ve finally reached the main attraction I had left ! This is Kitahama Beach! There are quite a few people here, it’s beautiful! Wow! This is amazing ! If you go up these stairs, there’s even a space like this! Looking out at Kitahama from a space like this , what a luxurious time! If you go down here, there seems to be a place to put your luggage. Everyone is leaving various things here . This is amazing ! Shall we swim over there? The visibility is also incredible ! It’s so crowded! I also heard about the bonito, so I’d like to film an inn where you can eat it as an added bonus , so if I go there later, I think I’ll add it to a future video! The rest, I don’t need to explain it much, you can see it in the video, it’s a wonderful landscape, and yet there aren’t that many people there. I happened to meet a viewer at the inn, and his expression today was completely different to what it was yesterday! I didn’t say this to him, but he was smiling like crazy, and I thought he must have been feeling so energized before going home. This is also one of the top remote islands I’ve been to so far! And it feels like it’s so easy to get there from the main island of Okinawa…? It may be a bit of a detour from this side to that side, and it’s easy to get lost on the way, but everything is compact, and it’s unfortunate that it doesn’t seem to have accepted immigration yet, but I was saying that that will change in the future, and then I saw this cat! Aka Island kitty, I’ll definitely come again, I ‘ll definitely come again, Aka Island kitty, I’ll definitely come again , it was amazing. As for transportation, a lot of people get around by bicycle, and some people might think that’s fine, but I honestly think it’s better to use a motorbike or something. It depends on where you’re going, but if you’re just going to Kitahama, a bicycle is enough, and you might even be able to walk. I used a tuk-tuk this time, but it was quite expensive. To be honest, I wish it was easier to use, but in the end, I was able to see a lot by using it. I think that was the port. I wish I could have stayed one more night . That’s about the extent of the island. So , I’m going back to Naha, Okinawa for now! It was the best trip to Aka Island! I want to come again! It’s an island that I definitely want to return to. The boat is just arriving now . Oh! It was projected in a completely different direction . Let’s get on now! So , we’ve departed for Aka Island. Thank you! Aka Island! It was great! Thank you! It’s moving out quickly now. It’s moving out beautifully. It feels very calm. There are hardly any waves. It’s moving along calmly . Huh? Which way is it heading? Are we making a U-turn? Ah, I see, so that’s how it turns. Ah , I see, thank you! It feels like it’s shaking a little… can you tell by the backlight? I thought we had the strength to see it through, but we were already at Zamami. Zamami is close. I might go to Zamami again when the weather is nice. Our trip to Zamami Island and Aka Island is over, but there are still more Kerama Islands to come. Please enjoy the upcoming videos! I’ll conquer them all. I’ll go to Zamami first. That way you can enjoy Zamami after visiting Aka Island . I actually went to Zamami and then to Aka Island, but the order is really different for everyone . You can go directly to Aka Island from Naha without stopping at Zamami. Everyone is different, just like life, it’s up to you. What choice you make, what order to watch Mori Channel in, whatnot, what does it mean that you have to do it this way? It’s really shaking and exciting , I heard screams from foreigners like on a roller coaster. But on the other hand, when I’m here it’s not shaking , it’s not shaking at all, it ‘s not shaking at all. Is the usual one coming soon? It’s not shaking at all, I don’t feel anything, it seems okay, are they really going to do it? Is it calming down ? It’s calming down quite a bit, isn’t it? Are they really going to do it? It’s not shaking at all, so which is it? This is an incredible speed, this is amazing , are we almost there? It’s so cold! It’s so cold! The sunset with lots of water splashing around, is Aka Island Returns coming? We’ll do it later! Aka Island Returns Day 1 Start There was a place I really wanted to stay at, so I made a reservation there and it’s my second time! I would like to go to Aka Island again! But this time, I just wanted to get that place booked, so I’m going to take the second flight departing in the evening. I think the only people on the second flight will probably be locals. I was able to make a reservation with no problem, but as expected, the first flight was fully booked, so that’s impressive! Okay, we’ve arrived. I think I’ll withdraw some cash at Lawson first ! But before that, let’s get the ticket first. I have a reservation, but I’ll just pick it up. As expected, there aren’t many people around at this time of day. This time I’m going to Aka Island, so I’ll go over there instead of here. I made the reservation online, so I think I can get there from my smartphone. This time too, I have to walk to the furthest point, so be careful! It’s about 10 minutes to the boarding point , and to exaggerate , you have to walk, so you need to come early. When I went to Aguni Island, it was right in front of me, so it wasn’t a problem, but when I go to Aka Island or Zamami, I have to go all the way to the back. It’s so hot , it’s crazy , isn’t it? It’s already hot, and just walking to the dock is making me sweat. This is crazy. It would be really crazy if it was like this in July or August. The ferry dock seems to be closer. The Zamami ferry dock is here, so the high-speed boat is further over there. I was fooled by this last time and had to rush off (in the afternoon) because it departs at 4pm. I’d like to see at least the sunset! Since I’m going all the way there, I feel like I can make it. The weather forecast was n’t that good, so I thought it might be impossible, but it looks like it’s going to be sunny! Thank you, Naha! I’m here, I’m here! The color of the ocean is really different. Well, I’ve arrived for the second time! I guess some people are going home now, so thank you to whoever discovered me ! Viewers! Can I be on camera? This is my second time. I ‘m here to reshoot! Have a nice trip! Be careful! Let’s go for the second time ! It’s Morioka-san ! Nice to meet you! Please, I appreciate you picking me up! There were cats too! There are loads of them here , look, on the wall ! So true! There are so many! Minshuku Tomisato (Tulatu) has a shower and toilet in the room, but I don’t use the washing machine! I don’t use it . Does that mean there’s a fee? No! It’s not paid, but is it free to use? You just need to bring your own detergent. There’s a men’s shower room here, and can I use it after check-out? Yes, you can! Oh, there’s a shelf, so you can put your luggage there and go snorkeling and take a quick shower. This is the women’s toilet, the women’s shower room. Do they also rent snorkels? Yes, they do! So, if you ever want to go swimming, all you need is money. If you get a lot of sand, you can just wash it off with that hose, and if you’re snorkeling, you can wash it around here and dry it like this, and if there’s a bicycle, feel free to use it. It’s great, but they don’t take reservations or hold bikes, so one day I realized there was someone there before me? I’ve been here since early afternoon, so it’s really annoying! It ‘s so close! They don’t run away – did you call a crow that doesn’t run away like this ? The ceiling is so high. There are men’s and women’s toilets here too! This is it. The room is so spacious! This room can accommodate four people. There’s a key here, so you can use the air conditioner and electricity, so please feel free to use it. I’ll call you when dinner is ready . Okay! Okay, so the toilet and shower look like this . Considering it’s an island, it’s more than enough! There’s a Panasonic hair dryer, a small TV, and a refrigerator so you can cool things down. The hangers look like this . I was wondering about the Wi-Fi speed…? Wow! It’s 71Mbps fast! I can even get some work done! What a great view! It’s 5:08pm since we arrived, but dinner is already starting at 6pm, so I’m looking forward to it! I’m told I can take a shower until 8pm, so I think I’ll really just relax here today . Maybe the sunset will come while I’m eating ? English : It would be nice to be able to see it from here, but I probably can’t. But this time I gave up on the view, so just being able to see this brings back memories. I don’t do this kind of thing very often, so I think there ‘s a rooftop too. I think I’ll do a little time lapse here. This place is nice too. It feels open, the breeze is nice, and I’ll take a walk around the area. So I’d like to walk around this area a bit. The accommodation I checked in at earlier doesn’t have any amenities like towels or toothbrushes , so I think you should be careful. I’ve been traveling for a while now, so I always bring towels that I can use anytime, an electric toothbrush, and I always carry my favorite hair dryer with me, so it’s not really a problem, but if you come here thinking it’s a normal accommodation, you’ll be like, “What ?!” or “No towels?” or ” No toothbrushes?” So be careful about that. It’s a common thing on islands, so recently, even on islands, there are more and more places that have these things, but there are still some places that don’t have them. But there is air conditioning and Wi-Fi, and some parts are gradually becoming more and more modern, so if you didn’t know that it wasn’t there at the time, it could be dangerous. But even in times like that, there are probably shops around. Maybe I can buy it there? I thought, since I’ve come all this way, I might as well go to a store! While walking around town, I noticed how quiet it is. I’ve only ever walked around here at night, and I don’t think I’ve been to this end of the street yet. Huh? It doesn’t seem like there should be a store here, but are there really? The atmosphere is laid back, but it’s already 5:30 in the afternoon, and I only have 30 minutes until dinner, so I’m in a hurry. Ah ! This is it! Nakamura Shoten. This place doesn’t feel like a store, but it’s right there. What?! It’s open , but… Closed irregularly. Are they open? It’s not open ! It’s closed for some reason ! Seriously ? Why? It says it’s open until 10pm, and I can’t believe it. And do they do massages or something? Even if I come here a second time, I’ll leave the inn again . Then I’ll rent a bike and go to another store! It’s great that you can rent a lot of things for free, and the washing machine is free too. I’ll have to bring detergent and stuff, though. So, I’ll head to a place called Hanakaki Shoten. I wonder if I’ll see Hanakaki and Deer? Huh? I thought I could get there if I went straight, but it’s a dead end? Let’s run to the beachside! So cool ! So beautiful! Oh? A car is coming! There are so many cats, it’s amazing, there it is! Dinner starts, the menu looks like this , it’s amazing , you can split it and eat it, it seems to be sized for two people, it’s supposed to be a little smaller, so let’s go! Is this okay? At mealtimes, you can even get free awamori, it’s so good, I’m happy! But I ordered a beer. Unfortunately, it seems they didn’t catch any bonito, but that’s what I came here for. Still, it’s really nice to be able to enjoy this much seafood at night. Even though we get free awamori, I’ll start with a beer. Today is so good. I’ve sweated so much . I ‘m getting restless. This is a luxury. No, aren’t we going to eat it? Once we finish dinner around 7 o’clock, I’ll be really bored. I have nothing to do. I have to take a shower by 8 o’clock, so if I take a shower, I’ll be in trouble. Should I go to that bar again? It’s like I’ve come again. It’s truly a remote island. There’s nothing to do. You can enjoy the luxury of having nothing to do . We’re having a great time talking about remote islands. Behind me , I’ve been to all of them too. It’s freshly caught fish, so it’s delicious! Let’s have some fish. I think it’s probably salty. It’s really salty and delicious! This dish goes well with rice, and the carrot shirishiriyan is definitely a good choice for dinner on Aka Island. It’s nice to go around to restaurants, but there are a lot of accommodations that only offer bed and breakfast, so if you want to enjoy the food at an accommodation , this is also a good choice! I’m glad I came all the way here just for this, it was gone in an instant, and now it’s time for some awamori! We’ll have some free awamori , which is great! Doesn’t it cost around 700 yen at a regular izakaya ? English: This reminds me of Ogami Island. On Ogami Island, you buy a box of alcohol and just drink it. It’s probably good to chat with everyone like this. Right now, I’m probably taking pictures so no one is talking to me at all, but I think everyone would normally be here chatting away, so I’ll just enjoy myself until I can talk to everyone ~ If I think I can get some good shots, I’ll turn it on, so if the next day comes, please just pretend that no one has spoken to me. After that, it didn’t turn on , and the store was open (in the afternoon). I decided to come at 8 o’clock and enter. There was also a hermit crab at the entrance. It was closed in the evening because a school event was taking place. I can’t believe I got such a good time… What a kind person. I see a shadow right in front of me! Is it a deer…?! There’s a deer! What great shots they’re giving me! I’m so nervous~ Oh no, it’s gone! Wait! Oh! There it is! It’s a hermit crab. Stargazing photography. When I got back, the conversation session was over. Aka Island Returns Day 2. It’s 7:30 in the morning, and it’s time for breakfast. What a beautiful sunny day ! Let’s have breakfast. This will be my breakfast. Looks delicious! And I can enjoy it with this view (thanks) . I’m sleepy. Last night, I wasn’t expecting it, but the stars were so beautiful that I was absorbed in taking pictures. Then there was a Yuntaku party, but when I got back it was over… I wanted to join in, but when I went to take pictures of the stars, it was so lively, so I thought, “Let me join in on the fun !” But I can’t really join in. I’m also a bit of an introvert, so if I happen to be drinking next to someone or someone talks to me, that’s fine, but even at business meetings, everyone is exchanging business cards and having a good time, but I’m the type who likes to drink quietly on the sidelines, so I showed my bad side. Apparently there’s no room change today, so check-out is supposed to be 9:30, but I’m planning to head home after the ferry today, and they’re happy to let me use the room until the ferry time. I’ve worked a little slowly, so I’ll rent a bike again and take a leisurely stroll until the ferry time ! But hey, I already took some pictures once, so I won’t take any more detailed shots. I’ll just take the best shots . If I keep taking pictures like this, the duration will be too long, so it ‘ll be about 50 hours, so I ‘ll just enjoy it for now. Suddenly, it’s here! I just closed my camera a while ago, and now I ‘m suddenly filming the accident scene. Is this deja vu? So awesome, so awesome, so awesome! This is good! This is great! I took some pictures of the stars around here yesterday. This is great, it’s so sunny! It wasn’t supposed to be sunny today, and the weather forecast still looks cloudy, but I’m here! It’s beautiful here too, so it looks pretty nice. Kitahama Observatory. Well, I didn’t go up last time, but this is Kitahama Observatory… It’s not Kitahama, it’s my second time, but I kept getting confused. It’s Kitahama Observatory! I want to climb this place. I ‘ve been avoiding it, but I’m sure there are some people who won’t be satisfied unless I climb it! This is Mori Channel, responding to the needs of all humanity. It’s hot right now (2025). It’s late May, and if it’s already this hot in late May , July will be tough too. I’ll be taking a break from island travel for a bit in July and August. Especially on this Okinawan remote island, we’ll be climbing a lot . I really want to emphasize again that staying hydrated is super important! I almost got heatstroke, but I drank plenty of sports drinks and managed to recover! My legs hurt ! That’s the kind of thing that comes with a tough island trip. Exercise by bike, and are there still stairs like this one ?! I arrived yesterday evening and will be leaving around 3pm today, so I really just flew back … Sigh , my legs… My legs are so sore … Sigh… I’m bringing you the real story of travel, so I’ll show you just how tiring these stairs are ! Wow! The view is amazing from here too ! I keep telling myself, ” Just a little more, just a little more, just a little more,” and then it’s over! We’ve arrived! We’ve reached the top, Kitahama Observatory! I’m hungry. Maybe I should eat here next . Do you remember? This is the restaurant where we had dinner. What do you recommend? I see you wrote it here. Green onion and pork rice bowl? Drug-fueled egg? Okay, so, it’s really sunny here, but this is for filming, so normally you wouldn’t eat in a place like this. It’s hot, so this Coke won’t hydrate you, so be careful! It’s a trap. I talked about hydration earlier, but these Cokes and beers won’t hydrate you, you know? I was really sweating and thirsty, so beer is the best! It ‘s great, but it won’t hydrate you, so be careful! It’s a trap. I want a beer to replace my hydration. Drug-fueled egg. Green onion and pork rice bowl. There’s a good song playing. Is it the theme song for 1pm? It’s like music before you eat. I hope you enjoy it. This would taste even better if you had it after swimming. I’ve also been mountain climbing… isn’t that mountain climbing?! I went up to the observation deck. It’s delicious, I’m so grateful …? Ugh , well, well, well, the drugs… the drugs are working , my glasses are falling off, so it’s a bit too hot in the sun, so I’m going to go to the shade for a bit~ Blue Seal kinako ice cream and mango juice, although it spilled all over, Blue Seal ice cream on top of Umakko , Ah! Blue Seal ice cream with kinako from Umakko , here it comes! Today I’m going home by ferry, until now I’ve always taken the high-speed boat to go back and forth, but I have plenty of time so it ‘s a bit cheaper, I’m going home by ferry, which is only about 30 minutes slower, I think, this is my first ferry! There are a lot of foreigners, are they trying to save money on the ferry after all ? There are lots of people who look like I saw them in Kitahama, this looks nice, after all the weather was good, and before I knew it, everyone was sitting, there were lots of foreigners here, surprisingly, there were already people on board, there were seats like this too, it was great even for the second time, it was great even after repeating, when will I come again? I’ve already been everywhere, so I might not go back unless I’m called, but I’d like to leave Aka Island, praying that I’ll be called again. Maybe God will call me. After the filming was over, it got a bit cloudy. Thank you. If you’re worried about what others think, don’t do it. Naha Airport ⇒ Kobe Airport . A behind-the- scenes story of this video is available exclusively! Check the description for details! Backpacks that everyone wears when traveling . Do you use one? I’m wearing this one right now, so take a look. At first glance , it doesn’t look like there’s much in it, but actually, there’s a lot inside. My wallet is in here, and I also need my business cards, passport, and earphones. If I suddenly feel like playing Switch… I have a Nintendo Switch, and if I want to play against someone, I’ll put another one in there, and it’s still thin even with that inside. And keys! You can put car keys, your wallet, and so on . You’re probably thinking, “How many wallets can you fit in there?” It also has two pockets on the outside, so you can put things like disinfectant wipes, and you can even fit a water bottle in the back ! You might think that this alone can hold a lot, but you can even fit a laptop in the back! With all this stuff, even if you’re worried about going out to eat on your trip, wanting to play your Switch, or maybe even work, or getting thirsty, you can fit it all in there! You’re worried about getting pickpocketed if you wear a backpack, so this is a wearable backpack. It’s an absolute must-have for travelers! Travel is an investment in yourself!
