Hello, welcome to the Long Edit version of Go Went Go again. This time, we will combine everything. It is a trip across 3 countries: Thailand, Laos and China without using an airplane. Our starting point is the border of Nan Province and the end of the trip in Kunming, the capital of Yunnan Province. I must say that this is another trip that is easy to follow and fun for travelers. On Day 1, we will travel from Thailand to Luang Prabang first. Our starting point is the Huai Kon border checkpoint in Nan Province. We rented a car with a driver. He will pick us up from the Laos side at the checkpoint and drive us to Luang Prabang. Along the way, we will stop at various points until in the evening, we will arrive at the ferry pier to unload our cars across to Luang Prabang. On Day 2, we will continue our journey by the Laos-China railway. We will start from Luang Prabang and get off at Boten, which is a border town in Laos that has been developed into a special economic zone. The Chinese have invested in building this entire city. And we will stop by and stay in this city for 1 night. The next day, the 3rd day, we will take a car from Boten to Sibsongbanna. This is a Thai autonomous region in China. Their culture and language are very similar to Thai. In the evening, we will visit Kaozhuang Night Market, a market that is like Chiang Mai. You will see that Thai language is everywhere. As for the 4th day, the next day, we will fully visit Sibsongbanna. Here, there are temples that are similar to Thai temples because the Tai Lue people practice Buddhism like us. Whether it is Wat Pa Chet Maharat or Wat Luang Muang Lue, we will also go to the Tai Lue village. There are still many original characteristics. And after we are done sightseeing, we will take a train from Sibsongbanna to Kunming. On the 5th day, we will continue to the Kingdom of the Little People , a theme park built for dwarfs. It is something we have never heard of before. It looks quite strange , so we will take everyone to see what it is really like. After that, we will travel to Kunming city. And take you to visit the highlight spots of the city, whether it’s Yuantong Temple, Nanping Street, and the Golden Horse and Jade Rooster Archway . In the evening, we will go out for a walk. The atmosphere is great. Day 6, we will take the train from Kunming to Milo City, which is a city that not many people know about. Most of the tourists are Chinese who come to visit. I must say that it has everything from ethnic minority villages that are still preserved to viewpoints on the mountains with a large statue of Phra Sri Ariya Maitreya. There are also places with strange architecture that you may have never seen before. After sightseeing, we will take the train back to Kunming. And on the last day, the 7th, we will travel. We will take a car from Nan across the border to Luang Prabang, then take the Laos-China Railway to Sibsongpanna, and then end up in Kunming or something like that. But the point is, we will try to review it. Traveling by car across the border , today I will review it for you to see how the route is, how long it takes, and what there is. Normally, when we travel to Laos, I believe everyone is familiar with traveling by plane, right? But one of the ways to travel that many people may have done or not done before is driving across the border. Between Thailand and Laos, there are many border crossings. For our destination this time, we will travel to Luang Prabang first. The most convenient checkpoint to travel to is Huai Kon checkpoint in Nan Province. In the past, from Huai Kon checkpoint to Luang Prabang, Then you have to drive along route 4A, which takes about 6 hours. Then in 2019, a new route was built called 4B, which shortens the travel time to only about 4 hours. Plus, along the way, there are beautiful natural views to see all along the way. So, people like to travel on this route more. I would like to divide the border crossing into 2 types. The first type is to use a private car to cross. This method requires a lot of documents. That is, you must not use the car in Laos beyond the date permitted by the officer. But if you don’t want to bother with documents, you can try the second type, crossing without a car. Normally, there will be cars for hire on that side. We can negotiate the price and various things. Another way is to contact them in advance. Let’s have them pick us up. This way is easier. So we chose the second type , which is to call a car to pick us up. We can also stop along the way. We can negotiate with the company we rented from. Let’s see how many hours it takes from the border checkpoint to Luang Prabang. Okay, a little over 2 hours . We’re there. This is the border, Thailand-Laos . I have to say that the road here is not bad, but it’s not very good either because it looks like they’re building the road. There are some bumps here and there. This checkpoint behind us is a small checkpoint , which is like just a road . All the way to Laos. Let’s go through immigration. Some people have cars like cars that come to buy things on the Thai side, right? You can drive straight to the permanent border crossing at Ban Huai Kon, Chaloem Phra Kiat District , Nan Province . You’ve passed through Thai immigration. We’ll get in the car now. The car will pick you up at the checkpoint between the two immigration checkpoints. Once your bags are in the car, we’ll go through Lao immigration again. This is the middle. This is where we exit just past Thai immigration. This is our car, right? Yes, this one . This is Muang Ngoen. We’ve passed the border checkpoint. On the Lao side, they will charge a toll fee of 10,000 kip. But a moment ago, they said that if it is after 11:30, it will be 20,000 kip . I paid 10,000 kip, but the others paid 20,000 kip. I am currently checking if this is true. But they gave me a form . It is an overtime form. After we crossed, on the Lao side, the road is clear. The road is good, but it is a mountain. It is a winding road. This area of Hongsa is like a power plant. People come to work here. We are going to stop at a gas station and then stop at a cafe to have lunch. Then we will continue our journey. We have arrived at Simple Cafe. The advantage of this place is that the view behind us will be of the power plant of Hongsa. There is also a walkway. Coming out to the fields , to be honest, it looks quite strange. We see rice fields, flowers , and behind it is a power plant, located in the city of Hongsa. This is considered a very good-looking cafe. Compared to the surrounding areas, it is a rural road. But in here, there is a cafe like this. The temperature is now 25 degrees Celsius. It feels like being at home with the air conditioner on. It is comfortable. And shout out together, Hongsa . Finished eating. The price of food is about the same as a single dish. It is about 40-50 baht . From here, Hongsa, we will go to the next point. And then we will travel a long way. I have to say that I really intended to test it out to show you how convenient the road is from Nan to Luang Prabang. Now I am starting to realize that the road is really good, you see? It is all paved. But driving is quite tiring because the driver has to drive up and down all the time. But the air up here is very good. And it is in the middle of the mountain, so high that it is full of fog. Now it is possible to start. After a little smoke earlier, we were standing there, blowing smoke. This is the flower garden park in the big forest at Tad Roi Kua waterfall. What is it? / Kua . This place has a flower garden. And there are adventure activities. There is a waterfall. There is elephant riding . But we only planned to visit the waterfall. Before we enter Luang Prabang, we will stop at Tad Roi Kua waterfall flower garden or Green Jungle Park. This is a park in the big forest. They have preserved the forest. Inside is quite spacious. There are forests, flower gardens, accommodations, and activity zones to do. But the highlight we came to was Tad Roi Kua Waterfall. It is a waterfall that flows down from a 100-meter high cliff. I recommend coming during the rainy season because it is the most beautiful. There will be a lot of water. But did you know that there is another local legend hidden here ? They say that a long time ago, there used to be a house near this waterfall. The villagers lived there all the time, right? Until one day, soldiers came to take over the village. And because the villagers were scared, they took their families and hid in a cave near the waterfall. They said that there were hundreds of families in there. After several days, it should be safe. But then the soldiers heard a noise from inside the cave. So they knew that there were people inside the cave. What the soldiers did was to put a big rock to block the mouth of the cave. So the people hiding inside couldn’t get out. And no one has ever come out of the cave again. Or to put it simply, everyone died. This is the story. This is a legend that has been passed down. It flows through 6 countries: China, Burma, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam. It is considered the longest river in Southeast Asia. And it is important to more than 60 million people. In terms of economy, the Mekong River is the largest freshwater fishery in the world. It accounts for 25 percent of the world’s freshwater fish catch. And there are more than 1,200 species of fish, including the largest freshwater fish in the world that originates in the Mekong River as well. That is the Mekong Giant Catfish. It is a type of fish that can only be found in the Mekong River. The size of an adult is about 3 meters and weighs more than 250 kilograms. As for the train schedule, we can choose the origin and destination stations. If you only take domestic stations, you can book in advance for only 3 days. But if it is an international station, you can book in advance for 2 weeks. For example, our origin is Luang Prabang, Laos, and our destination is Sibsongbanna, China. There will be schedules for us to choose from. There are 2 types of seats: First-Class, which costs about 831,000 kip or about 1,300 baht , and Second-Class, which costs 522,000 kip or about 800 baht. After that, fill in all the information according to the system. Once you have paid, you will get a QR code. You can use it to submit at the counter at the train station. Or if anyone is not comfortable booking through the application, another way is to have an agency book for you. But I think that booking through the application is the easiest. I’m on the bus now. The starting point of the route is Vientiane in Laos and ends in Kunming in China. The total distance is 1,035 kilometers, which takes about 10 hours. Currently, this railway route has 16 passenger stations, 10 stations on the Laos side and 6 stations on the Chinese side. In the future, they plan to build a route around Southeast Asia , known as the Pan Asia Railway Network. This time, I traveled from Luang Prabang Station to Boten and then to Sibsongbanna. It’s a huge project that China wants to connect trade routes and transportation with other countries around the world. Imagine it like the Silk Road in ancient times. It was a route that connected the East and the West. But instead of merchants riding camels to carry silk, in the modern era, there will be high-speed trains and giant container ships instead , so it’s called another name. The new Silk Road , which is the BRI, is divided into 2 main routes: the Belt and Road, which is the sea route. It is a project in which China will invest and lend to more than 150 countries around the world. It will build various infrastructures such as roads, railways, ports, and telecommunications systems. All of them will be connected into a large network , making it easier to exchange goods between China and countries around the world . The BRI does not only have economic benefits , but also helps increase China’s political influence in the countries participating in the project. This is the reason why many countries are starting to worry that they may have to rely too much on China. However, countries that lack capital see this as a good opportunity to develop their countries. Now we are at the Laos-China railway station , Boten City. Boten is a border city between Laos and China. It is the last station before crossing to China, to the Xishuangbanna side, to Kunming, which is a neighboring city called Bohan. Bo Ten is on the Chinese side, but we will take you to see it because it is a special economic city that Laos and China invested in and built. I want to know what is inside. It has been many years. At the bus station, you will see that there are many shipping containers. And it should be goods because this is a border city. And then we go to the hotel. We call a car to go in. It costs 50,000 kip per person. Bo Ten is located in the north of Laos. It is also a border city next to China. In the past, this place was just a remote border village. In the past, the Tai Lue people used this area for agriculture. Until 2003, China came to develop this area into an economic zone. Causing the original Tai Lue people to be moved out to live elsewhere. The peak of Bo Ten was around 2007-2011. During that time, a Hong Kong company rented the land and built a hotel, entertainment venue, and casino, attracting thousands of people to travel here. But one thing that followed was another story. It was about violence and crime. Until then, this place became a dangerous area in the view of many people. And with so many accumulated problems. Finally, this casino was ordered to close and other businesses had to close as well. Until Boten became a deserted city. But then, after many years, this city became the focus of investors again when China started the Belt and Road Initiative. Which will build the Laos-China railway and is one of the projects that focuses on Boten this time. That is, this place will become a border station connecting Laos and China. As a result, various parts of the city will start to be developed, such as shopping malls, hotels, residences, hospitals , and various infrastructures . Simply put, it’s like building a whole new city. They have invested as much as 10 billion US dollars and it is considered the most expensive special economic zone in Laos. In the new era, Boten will be focused on being the center of tourism, trade, and logistics. At present, this is one of the main entry points for goods from China that are sent to Southeast Asia. And in the future, when this city is completely completed, will it be successful or not? We will have to wait and see. We have arrived at the hotel. We are staying in this hotel. But when I drove in earlier, I saw that most of the buildings were still under construction. They ‘re not finished yet, just frames. I’ll have to go see what else there is in the city, but it’s still very quiet. Here, we’ll go to the 13th floor . The 13th floor is the top floor. The room here costs 1,400 baht, which is very cheap. The room that the 3 of them slept in was a 1,500 baht dormitory for 3 people. This room is really a 3-person dormitory with 3 beds. Breakfast for 3 people is included. The atmosphere is nice. The room looks very nice. This is my room. This is a normal 2-person dormitory , but I’m sleeping alone. It’s a single bed . The room size is similar, except for the bed. And here’s the atmosphere of Boten City. I can’t see anything here. I have to look at this side. Okay, the magnificent building you see is another hotel. It looks like it’s been under construction for a long time because the buildings around here look quite old. And there’s a new building that’s not finished yet. The atmosphere is quiet. And most of the people who came just now saw that there were Chinese people staying. The shops around here , all the shops have Chinese language.
