【台湾旅行🇹🇼】台南•高雄が楽しすぎる!美食の古都で絶品グルメと日本時代を偲ぶ旅♪

Hello, this is Koya. I’m currently heading to Taiwan I’m bringing you a travel video introducing ‘Kaohsiung and Tainan’ for the first time on my channel Kaohsiung is Taiwan’s second largest city and a vibrant port town Tainan is the historical center of Taiwan, a city rich in history and gourmet food The fragrant smells of the night market, the exquisite Taiwanese dishes that can’t be found in Japan, and the charming old streets elevate the excitement We are setting off on a captivating journey through areas where cutting-edge urban life and tradition coexist Now, let’s go! I have just arrived at Taoyuan International Airport in Taiwan In the previous Taiwan video, I shared my trip to Taipei Today, I am heading to the southern part of Taiwan, to Kaohsiung and Tainan I think it’s common to take the Shinkansen to Kaohsiung First, you need to go to ‘High-Speed Rail Taoyuan Station’ where you can board the Shinkansen If you’re going to Taipei, you can also take this train called the MRT The MRT from the airport to the city allows for credit card touch payments, making it convenient It takes about 20 minutes to get from the airport to Taoyuan High-Speed Rail Station From here, I will take the Shinkansen to Kaohsiung Taiwan’s high-speed trains look just like Japan’s Shinkansen In fact, this is a Shinkansen made by Japan The interior design and the comfort of the seats feel exactly the same as when you ride on Japan’s Shinkansen When I was on the Shinkansen, I felt as if I were in Japan I was able to buy the Shinkansen ticket at a discounted price during the campaign period There is a campaign period where using the high-speed train in pairs allows you to get half off Even if you book through travel agencies like Klook or KKday, you can use this campaign at half price, so please take advantage of it It takes about 1 hour and 35 minutes to get from Taoyuan High-Speed Rail Station to Kaohsiung Station I have arrived at Kaohsiung Station on the Shinkansen It’s the second largest city in Taiwan, so there are definitely a lot of people The inside of the station is really beautiful I’m going to take the MRT subway to go into the city By the way, if you’re taking the subway or bus in Taiwan, it’s convenient to get an ‘EasyCard’ You can easily use public transportation by charging this card and tapping it I will take the red line to get to Kaohsiung Station on the subway We will arrive at Kaohsiung Station in about 15 minutes We have arrived at Kaohsiung Station, the nearest station to the hotel This is really beautiful, isn’t it? The ceiling in the central area is artistic There is another artistic station that has become a famous tourist spot, so I will go there tomorrow Just being inside the station gives me a sense of exhilaration I was surprised to find out that Kaohsiung Station is this beautiful It seems there are plans to extend the Shinkansen so that in the future, you will be able to reach the central area of Kaohsiung by Shinkansen That’s why it seems the station has been renovated When I stepped outside the station, there was a building that looked like a historical structure right in front of me This is the ‘Old Takao Station’ built during the Japanese colonial era in the 1930s Looking back to the opposite side, there is a bustling atmosphere typical of downtown Kaohsiung The streets are very wide, and there’s an atmosphere of a big city The hotel where I’ll be staying for two nights from today is about an 8-minute walk from Kaohsiung Station I chose this hotel because it is located right in between “Kaohsiung Station” and “Formosa Boulevard Station,” which seems to be a good location It’s a hotel called “Just Sleep.” I have entered the room It’s just a little over 10,000 yen per night, but it looks quite good The living and bedroom areas are spacious enough to easily open two suitcases The bed is large, and the room is clean It seems that everything on the sink is available for free There are also juices in the refrigerator This is the first time I’ve seen a Panasonic hairdryer overseas As expected, Taiwan is pro-Japan This time I chose a hotel with a focus on cost performance, and it’s quite good This is the closet It even comes with a large bathtub, which is great for Japanese people The toilet is also separate This is a recommended hotel There is a ginger tea service in the front lobby area This hotel, as the name ‘Just Sleep’ suggests, is not just for sleeping; it is a place where you can truly relax Since the night market I was aiming for is closed, I will go to the night market tomorrow I am going to the restaurant I’ve been curious about now The building in front of me has ‘Kagaya’ written on it My video about Kaga-ya has over a million views Is it related to that hotel ‘Kaga-ya’? The restaurant I’m aiming for is located inside this hotel There is a course menu, isn’t there? This is the most reasonable course menu Since it’s 1500 yuan, it’s about 6000 yen when converted to Japanese yen On the next page, there is a slightly upgraded course menu The left hand is 2000 yuan and the right hand is 2800 yuan (12,780 yen) Since we’re here, I’ll try ordering this best course meal The food at the good restaurants in Shanghai last time was delicious I want to indulge at least once in each city during this trip, so I’m going to splurge this time There are many individual menu items available like this I don’t think ordering a few individual items is excessively expensive Considering it’s a high-end Chinese restaurant within a hotel, it feels slightly cheaper than in Japan The fried rice is about 1200 yen First, the appetizer has arrived The one on the right is mullet roe It seems that this area of Tainan is famous for its karasumi This is chicken steamed with alcohol This is a shellfish called Tokobushi The one on the far left is a jellyfish salad First, I will have some jellyfish It might be my first time eating jellyfish This has the taste of cellophane noodles and a really crunchy texture It has a mild taste This is a shellfish called Tokobushi It has an abalone-like flavor with a spicy sauce that has garlic flavor, spices, and acidity, resembling a Chinese-style sauce This is chicken This chicken is delicious The seasoning has a subtle hint of alcohol that gives it a really refined flavor This is tasty This is a flavor I’ve never tasted in Japan This is karasumi It has an egg-like flavor with a hint of fish taste coming through You sometimes eat karasumi in Japan, right? Next up is ‘stir-fried scallops and vegetables with egg whites’ This is also a dish I’ve never seen in Japan The scallops are really big Because the scallops are large, the moment you eat them, the luxurious flavor of the scallops spreads in your mouth And the black thing on top is probably caviar, I think It’s not ordinary scallops; it has a refined flavor that spreads This egg white enhances the saltiness and richness This is truffle, not caviar The truffle adds a refined flavor I mistakenly called it caviar I haven’t always eaten high-end food, so I sometimes make mistakes The next dish was ‘Shoulder of Lamb Sautéed with Black Pepper’ I love lamb meat A lot of dishes came out all at once The staff is saying it’s Chinese soup dumplings Japanese course meals are served one dish at a time, right? A lavish spread of dishes was served all at once This kind of grandeur really gives off that Chinese vibe, doesn’t it? This is the ‘superb shark fin soup’ It also contains bamboo shoots What we have here is ‘garlic steamed spiny lobster with vermicelli’ The spiny lobster has arrived On the right hand side is the ‘steamed fish and mustard greens’ And this is the ‘Chinese soup dumpling’ Soup dumplings are definitely delicious I will have lamb Lamb chops are meant to be eaten with your hands It’s delicious Lamb can have a strong smell, but I don’t notice any odor It has a sweet, sauce-like flavor reminiscent of Chinese cuisine, with just the right amount of black pepper, making the seasoning exquisite In casual restaurants, the seasoning can sometimes be too bland or too strong, but this is truly a high-end restaurant This is also quite a rare flavor profile It has a flavor that you can’t find in either foreign countries or Japan, and it’s delicious Next, I will have the Ise lobster I didn’t know you could eat Ise lobster outside of Japan Taiwan is close to Japan and has a good relationship with it, so I wonder if Japanese ingredients can be eaten there I don’t know the details It’s delicious It has a sweetness, but the Chinese-style seasoning subtly enhances the flavor of the vermicelli and garlic The shrimp is really large and luxurious And I will have shark fin soup I’ve never had shark fin soup in Japan It’s a bit of a sweet soup, isn’t it? I had shark fin soup at a crab restaurant in Shanghai, but the taste is completely different from that time Shark fin itself doesn’t have much flavor I think the shark fin absorbs the flavors of the ingredients inside and makes it rich It’s a cold soup Isn’t it amazing that it has no flavor at all yet is treated as a luxury ingredient? It absorbs the flavors of other ingredients to create this unique crunchy texture This is popular, isn’t it? Next is the premium fish, grouper I never thought I could eat this fish outside of Japan Is Tainan more active in seafood compared to Taipei? The body is moist and the fat content is just perfect There are a lot of green onions on top, so the aftertaste is refreshing The right is ‘Seasonal Vegetables with Dried Scallop Sauce’ and the left is ‘Jujube and Longan White Fungus Soup’ I’m going to have some soup dumplings You have to eat this when you come to Taiwan I’m not very good at eating soup dumplings, and I often end up spilling the juice out of my mouth If I remember correctly, you poke a hole in them on the spoon, right? You poke a hole and let the broth flow into the spoon And then I drink the broth It’s juicy After that, I eat it with soy sauce and ginger It’s chewy, juicy, and delicious Compared to the soup dumplings I’ve eaten so far, the dough is incredibly chewy The meat is rich and juicy You can’t go wrong with the soup dumplings you eat in Taiwan The ginger is the best because it adds a refreshing kick to the juicy meat The dessert is a combination of custard buns and a fruit platter The gold kiwi looks delicious It’s delicious The southern part of Taiwan is always warm, so I guess the fruits there are delicious I’ve heard that Tainan produces better sugarcane than Taipei I will try sugarcane juice at a food stall tomorrow I ordered an expensive course at a nice restaurant, and the luxury of each ingredient was amazing I was able to eat high-end ingredients like spiny lobster and grouper, as well as Taiwanese-style soup dumplings Starting tomorrow, I plan to visit night markets and more casual eateries End of Day 1 Day 2 It’s the next morning Today is a sightseeing day in Kaohsiung I plan to do some sightseeing in Tainan tomorrow Before going to the tourist spots, I will go have breakfast Since I plan to visit a place that’s a bit far, I think I’ll take an Uber taxi It’s about 7 kilometers away, but it’s around 1000 yen, so taxis are cheaper compared to Japan It takes about 20 minutes to drive by taxi We are heading to a tourist spot called ‘Dragon and Tiger Tower’ now There are many commercial facilities here This is a famous place where you can eat soup dumplings for breakfast A set of 10 soup dumplings costs 360 yen, which is really cheap I ordered 10 soup dumplings, so I’ll eat 5 at a time When it comes to Taiwan, it’s soy milk, isn’t it? This is about 80 yen, so it’s super cheap Let’s enjoy it with Dosukoi-san I’ll dip it in the sauce The moment it hits my mouth, the juiciness spreads out, and it’s just the best! This is about 360 yen for a pack of 10 You don’t have to go to a high-end restaurant in Japan; this is delicious enough It’s easy to eat and tasty, so I recommend this shop I’ll have some soy milk too This is delicious It looks like it’s going to spill It’s delicious When I went to China before, there was always hot soy milk available at the hotel breakfast and such This flavor, which contains almost no sugar, is gentle on the body and is the best I hope hot soy milk will be introduced in Japan as well as in other countries overseas I feel very satisfied from the morning In Taiwan, English is often understood even in local places On the mainland, English is hardly understood at all In that regard, it’s a country that’s easy to travel in It’s so delicious that I had four servings Even if you order this, it’s about 280 yen I will head to the Dragon and Tiger Pagoda on foot What you see in front of you is the Dragon and Tiger Pagoda I think this view is often featured in guidebooks about Kaohsiung This building was constructed in 1976, so it is relatively recent This building was created with the hope for the happiness of the people of Kaohsiung and the peace of the city The tiger and dragon visible in front are distinctive features This is the entrance and exit It is said that entering through the dragon’s mouth and exiting through the tiger’s mouth has the effect of dispelling bad things In China, dragons have long been regarded as creatures that bring happiness, believed to have the power to bring rain and protect people Tigers are said to be cherished as strong guardian deities that drive away evil There is one interesting character It looks a lot like ‘Kumamon’ (the character from Kumamoto Prefecture in Japan) It says ‘Kaohsiung Bear’ Is there any relation to ‘Kumamon’? Kaohsiung is pronounced ‘Gāo xiōng’ in Chinese I think it sounds good because bears pronounce it as ‘shon’, resulting in the pronunciation ‘gaoshonshon’ It is pronounced ‘gaoshonshon’ in Chinese The pronunciations are similar, aren’t they? So that’s why they made it a bear character, right? I’m glad that they are imitating the characters out of respect for Japan I don’t know if they are imitating or not There is a dragon here too The shape of the road is distinctive It goes through a zigzag path towards the tower over there The zigzagging of the road is said to be a measure to keep evil spirits and negative energy out It’s a strange feeling that I can’t walk straight I’ve come close to it I don’t know why, but it seems like I can’t go inside right now I can hear construction sounds, so it might be under construction The shutter is closed like this Originally, I was supposed to enter through the mouth of this dragon and exit through the mouth of the tiger to dispel evil spirits and invite happiness It seems that beautiful paintings are displayed inside, and you can enjoy the view from the upper floors It’s not a regular holiday, is it? It seems they are doing construction due to aging Please come to dispel any negative energy when everyone arrives I will do my best on my own The Dragon and Tiger Pagoda itself is certainly impressive, but there are also many other colorful buildings around There is a pond here, creating a park-like atmosphere that serves as a healing space Many people are walking by the waterside There’s a calming atmosphere that feels like a place of relaxation for everyone After a short walk, you’ll find a strikingly large dragon and a god There are many turtles over here, and just watching them is soothing They seem to be enjoying basking in the sun There’s a big one climbing the net over there He’s climbing and sunbathing That’s quite a large turtle It seems that turtles can’t tell the difference in height, so they peek and fall That’s why turtles sometimes dive off buildings He might not have the sense of climbing He went all the way up, didn’t he? It seems like you can enter the dragon here Is the exit a tiger, I wonder? I’ll give it a try Inside, there are impressive paintings like this It’s interesting to think that we’re walking inside a dragon’s body Is this exit really the mouth of a tiger? It was not a tiger, but the rear end of a dragon So, it means that I have to go to that place earlier to get out of the tiger’s mouth I’ll take my revenge next time I’m heading to the next spot by taxi Next, we will head by boat to the peninsula that can be reached quickly from this town of Kaohsiung You can also use this EasyCard to board the boat It’s 30 yuan I’m boarding the ship It seems we will arrive in about 5 minutes in no time Taiwan’s mainland is visible on the right, and the island you can see on the left is the destination It’s really just a stone’s throw away, right there This boat makes multiple round trips a day, so it seems you don’t have to worry too much about the time When I was there, it was just the right timing as the ship had just departed, but I was able to wait for about 10 minutes and board I can see the return ship From here, it looks like a big city There are many commercial facilities as well The brick building in the middle is really impressive It seems that if you climb the mountain on the right, you can enjoy a nice view We’ll arrive in less than 5 minutes Looking back at the direction the ship departed, I see a cute town with pastel-colored buildings The air is hazy, but I can see a large building over here This tower is called the ’85 Building’, and it was the tallest building in Taiwan until Taipei 101 was constructed It’s quite rare to build the tallest building before the capital, isn’t it? We arrived in no time There are many shops lined up like this It seems there are plenty of delicious seafood restaurants, so I think I’ll have seafood for lunch somewhere It looks like I can see a beautiful sea on the other side, so I’ll head over there It’s an area where you can enjoy nature because it’s a peninsula Until just now, it looked like a scene you might find on the mainland, but this area has a resort-like atmosphere Without this roof, it would look like an ordinary street scene in Taiwan Just having this roof creates an atmosphere, doesn’t it? I can see a building that looks like a large church There are some delicious-looking seafood lined up over there, but let’s have some later I want to drink tapioca later too After passing through this arcade, a tropical atmosphere emerged Is this the ‘Hawaii of Kaohsiung’? No one has said that It’s quite a spacious beach, isn’t it? From here on, it really feels like nature There are many commercial facilities behind us, but this area has the atmosphere of having come to a remote island If you just focus on this scenery, it completely looks like a remote island The sand is black, but it’s very fine The sand is so fine that it seems pleasant to walk on barefoot There is no litter at all, and it is very well maintained Why is the sand so gray? There are moderate waves The weather is nice and it looks like a peaceful and enjoyable time Even though it looks fun, there are no people swimming right now because it’s cold In the morning and evening, it gets to around 10°C and the wind is strong I’m also wearing a layer right now Given the current temperature, there are no people swimming, but I think many people enjoy beach outings in the summer Considering it’s in the city, the sea is fairly clean The sand is black, so the sea shouldn’t look blue, but despite that, you can still see the blue parts clearly It’s amazing that it’s this beautiful in the ocean in the city I jokingly called it ‘Hawaii of Takao’ earlier, but it wouldn’t feel out of place to call it that It’s great that there is so much nature here Shall we try climbing to the top of the mountain? It looks like quite a climb, but according to Google Maps, it seems we can reach the summit in about 10 minutes from here It seems we will go to the top by passing through this tunnel “Starry Sky Something Road” is written here Inside, there are colorful artworks depicted The ceiling is sparkling, making it a bit of a photo spot I just went through that tunnel, but I took the wrong route since it led out to the sea for a walk I think if I climb these stairs, I can get to the observation deck above We’ve reached the summit I heard this used to be a fortress It was built during the Qing Dynasty to serve as a fortress to prevent invasions from foreign countries and for maritime trade This is a splendid brick construction, indicating that British technology has been incorporated This looks too beautiful, so I believe it has probably been repaired If this has been left unrepaired for a long time, it’s quite an impressive thing The view seems to be really nice once you climb up This is a wonderful view, isn’t it? The beach where we were just a moment ago stretches out before us From here, the beach really looks vast, doesn’t it? I said this is a peninsula, but it seems to be connected to the mainland by a bridge It seems that in the past it was connected to the mainland by land However, it seems they deliberately cut off the land to create a peninsula for the sake of maritime trade and transportation It’s rare to artificially create an island, isn’t it? But since it’s so close to the mainland, I guess even in today’s era, there is a lot of traffic back and forth, and it’s thriving Today, it’s hazy, and I can’t see the buildings in the back Is the night view beautiful at night? Since the sea is on the west side, the sunset is said to be really beautiful above all I came during the daytime this time, but I also recommend coming during the time when you can see the sunset Is this a lighthouse? There are many buildings with white walls The view from here has a slightly different atmosphere than earlier, and it’s nice It seems like we can enjoy an even more beautiful view of the cityscape right in front of us The building in the foreground is really decorated in colorful pastel colors I think they chose these color schemes for the buildings to enhance this area as a tourist attraction When old buildings are left as they are, they look like ruins and aren’t very visually appealing, right? When they are this colorful, it makes you feel bright even when you actually visit, doesn’t it? The colors are truly beautiful I just returned to the street we were on earlier I think I’ll have seafood for lunch at this restaurant There are a lot of freshly caught seafood displayed right in front of me It looks delicious We also have abalone I tried ordering a sashimi platter It includes salmon, tuna, and swordfish This clam soup looks really delicious It’s topped with plenty of ginger too This is abalone There are six luxurious boiled abalones This is stir-fried water lily I’ll have the tuna It’s big and delicious It’s my first time eating sashimi abroad, but it’s very fresh and doesn’t have a fishy smell And I’ll also have the salmon Salmon is delicious too, isn’t it? It’s delicious It’s nice that the meat is cut thick I’ll have the swordfish as well You can enjoy seafood casually like this I will also have clam soup The soup has a light salty flavor with a strong ginger taste, and it’s delicious There was also ginger tea at the hotel, and it seems that Taiwan has a culture of eating ginger It’s a flavor that Japanese people also enjoy The clams are really big And now, I will have the abalone This is a luxury Eating a whole abalone is a luxury, isn’t it? It is topped with a sweet and spicy Chinese-style sauce I would be happy if there was matari soy sauce, but this is delicious as it is I felt like having a drink while eating seafood, so I’ll have a Taiwan beer I really want to drink beer, don’t you? Beer tastes best when enjoyed in a foreign country Thank you for the meal The seafood was generally good, but since the level of seafood in Japan is high, it felt average in comparison However, considering we ordered that much and had beer, it was quite cheap at around 2500 yen per person It was a place where you could enjoy seafood at a good cost-performance ratio This modern building along the beach serves as a market Dried fish and similar items are being sold Everyone is actively trying to attract customers This rotating thing is a mosquito repellent, isn’t it? There are a lot of dried fish It looks delicious This dried fish smell reminds me of Vietnam I visited various markets in Vietnam Is it really okay to leave the fish in this condition? I suppose this will also be made into dried fish Overall, it’s comfortable to sightsee without being crowded with people There’s no need to wait in line, and this peninsula has a hidden gem feel to it I recommend it because you can easily cross by boat and enjoy a resort-like atmosphere There is a mysterious dolphin This is ‘Himono Street’, isn’t it? This reminds me of ‘Taratara Shitenja Ne’ (a Japanese snack) Those are snacks sold at a dagashi shop, but do you all know about them? I haven’t eaten that recently Since it’s a seaside market, they really promote dried fish I had a great time enjoying the resort atmosphere casually I am back on the mainland Even though it’s close, there is a special feeling about visiting by boat In front of me, I can see a large tower, and a cruise ship is also docked It seems that a Norwegian cruise is calling here, making Kaohsiung a port of call for cruise travel I have returned to the dock I came here because I heard there is a really delicious shaved ice shop just a minute’s walk from the dock It’s a shop that says ‘Ice of the Sea’ on it I wanted to eat mango shaved ice, but it’s February now, so it’s not being offered But conversely, the strawberry shaved ice is limited to this season, so I’ll go with strawberry A fruit shaved ice topped with plenty of strawberries has arrived Dosukoi-san loves pudding more than anything in the world, so he ordered a pudding shaved ice You really like pudding the most, don’t you? It’s delicious The way the sweetened condensed milk seeps into the crunchy ice is irresistible The rich sweetness of condensed milk is balanced by the acidity of the fruit When you come to Taiwan, shaved ice is a must Xiao long bao and shaved ice are definitely a great combination I want to eat one bowl of shaved ice a day The ice is crunchy and delicious You can’t find shaved ice with such crunchy texture and high-quality condensed milk at summer festivals in Japan, can you? Shaved ice is more delicious than what you eat in Japan Being in a tropical country, the quality of the fruits is also high Compared to Taipei, the atmosphere here is really calm It’s common to wait in line at popular shaved ice shops in Taipei In Tainan, you can enjoy your meal in a relaxed manner without any waiting There aren’t many Westerners around, are there? There are no Japanese people here, are there? There are direct flights from Japan, so it’s surprisingly easy to come here The dog behind me has been looking like it wants to eat since a while ago It looks delicious! I am walking towards the next spot There are tracks laid out in a place that looks like a park I think this used to be a place that was used, but I’m not sure The streetcar just passed by now I think it’s more of a route that surrounds the city rather than a streetcar running through the city It seems to be a streetcar that recently opened A streetcar is coming from the left as well This is a place called ‘Pier-2 Art Center.’ Originally, it was a site of old warehouses that has been renovated to serve as a hub for art and design culture events There are definitely train rides that kids will love We want to ride it too That ride goes around the park, doesn’t it? The park I was just looking at is on this side, and this area has also been renovated from a railway depot Is this a banyan tree? There are tropical trees that create a nice atmosphere Instead of building a lot of buildings, it’s quite interesting to find ways to reuse that cherish nature There are many artistic objects standing around That’s interesting, isn’t it? There is an object that looks like a trumpet made from reused wood It may be hard to tell from the video, but there is an enormous banana in the back I’ve never seen such a big object There’s a banana inside that train What on earth is that? This playful spirit is nice It’s interesting to express things you wouldn’t normally do with an object Having a playful spirit is important for us YouTubers too A playful spirit is important in any job Kaohsiung is a place where you can refine your sensibilities It’s characteristic of art museums to have artworks placed alone in vast rooms, isn’t it? The presence of art scattered throughout this vast park gives it a remarkably high-sense feel A park that uses land so lavishly to display art pieces is quite rare in the world On the left, there is a suitcase that looks like it could belong in Harry Potter This really has a lot of sense, doesn’t it? I like the objects that evoke travel with trains and suitcases Using train wheels as suitcase wheels shows the incredible sensibility of a true creator I came to this park without much expectation, but this space is quite nice Is that a broom? Is that broom cleaning something? It seems like we can spend time leisurely, imagining and chatting freely It’s exactly the kind of way to spend a vacation No matter how many times I see it, I still feel like, ‘Why is there only a banana there?’ The gap of just a banana being placed among such creative works is interesting The scenery around here is indeed beautiful with a lot of greenery The contrast between the newly developed city visible in the back and nature is nice It seems that having grass on the tracks of this tram is a common sight in Europe Are they recreating this in Kaohsiung, inspired by Europe? Everyone seems to be enjoying a walk along this railway I think there are probably many tourists from Taiwan It’s coffee time This is a shop where you can drink freshly roasted coffee The cake looks delicious too This is a Basque cheesecake This is a milk crepe It looks really delicious They brew coffee with carefully selected beans using a hand drip method I tried ordering Ethiopian coffee The coffee is delicious There were many coffee shops during my trip to Taipei The coffee shop that was recommended was delicious Taiwan has many great coffee shops This is 200 yuan I don’t think you can experience this quality with hand-dripped coffee beans in Japan It’s incredibly delicious I’ll have the Basque cheesecake It’s delicious It has a slightly refreshing taste, but the flavor and aroma of the cheese are nice I think this is a hidden gem that only locals know about This is a coffee shop that isn’t listed in guidebooks The quality of coffee at this shop is high, so I think it’s a good place for coffee lovers to take a break It’s really soothing There are many types of beans Beans from various countries around the world, including Honduras, Ethiopia, Peru, and Kenya, are available This coffee shop is recommended for a break during your travels I plan to go to the night market from now on I will take the subway to the night market from Formosa Boulevard Station The most famous night market in the Kaohsiung area is said to be the “Liuhe Night Market,” which is located in the city This time, I won’t be going there; instead, I’m going to a night market that has a lot of local people I’ve heard that the night market over there is more lively I would like to try going to the ‘Ruifeng Night Market’ There are few people who properly cover that night market on YouTube The ceiling inside the station is beautiful, isn’t it? This is one of the largest stained glass artworks in the world It has a diameter of about 30 meters It is said that an Italian artist created this for the station This is art themed around prayer It’s amazing how it uses such a diverse and colorful palette without feeling cluttered Perhaps it’s because each spot has a cohesive color scheme This massive art piece can be viewed for free just by entering the subway It’s not happening right now, but there are light shows here at certain times Perhaps when this area becomes dark, a light show will illuminate the ground as well Following Takao Station, which I visited on the first day, this beautiful Formosa Station has also become a photo spot Taiwan is really particular about its art pieces There is a night market at the station called ‘Kaohsiung Arena’, which is four stops away from Formosa Station I arrived at the night market right after getting off the subway This is the Rui Feng Night Market There are so many people here! There are stalls lined up in the front, but I think there are more in the back as well It’s a very popular night market, packed with people in the narrow alley The guidebook mentioned that it’s clearly more bustling than Liuhe Night Market If we have time later, let’s take a quick look at Liuhe Night Market too There’s a nice smell of chicken drifting around It smells really good and looks delicious A smell reminiscent of stinky tofu from Taiwan is wafting through There is a nice aroma coming from a huge pot that looks like a big paella pot, similar to a hot pot It looks surprisingly delicious This stall is really crowded, so it must be delicious Shall we try some noodle dishes? I ordered the seafood yakisoba that is recommended by the manager in the top left corner I waited for about 20 minutes I’m looking forward to this yakisoba Let’s eat It’s delicious There is a fragrant aroma of freshly baked goods The flavor of yakisoba is rather light Personally, I prefer yakisoba that is a bit on the lighter side Just like delicious fried rice with fluffy grains, this yakisoba has no soggy texture at all It’s delicious I will have both meat and seafood The meat is delicious It’s juicy and of very high quality It’s delicious, as expected from the long line I had Dosukoi-san wait for me Please eat It’s ‘release the wait’, isn’t it? It’s delicious It has a nice aroma This yakisoba is not watery and is of high quality As expected, a restaurant with a line is delicious The yakisoba was really delicious It was the number one tastiest yakisoba I’ve had recently This shop looks delicious too They have Taiwanese B-class gourmet dishes like oyster omelets and soup dumplings The oyster omelet looks really delicious The oyster omelet looks really delicious, so I ordered it Let’s eat I like that this night market has tables set up like this There are night markets without tables Where are the oysters? There were oysters here too Let’s eat The flavor of the oysters is delicious The sweetness and thick, sauce-like texture are great, along with the crispy texture You can also enjoy the rich flavor of the eggs I think it’s a taste that Japanese people would also like The yakisoba and oyster omelet were a hit The Taiwanese sausage is delicious It’s a thick, meaty, and juicy sausage Is this a shrimp fresh spring roll? The street vendor area we saw earlier has about four lanes, so this night market is quite spacious In the back, there is an area filled with games to enjoy I don’t know how to read it, but I’ll try eating at this shop next time I’ll have some delicious-looking steamed rice The chicken and broth have soaked in, making the rice shiny and look delicious The rice is chewy, and you can feel a hint of garlic in its texture There is a flavor of garlic and salt, along with a refreshing taste from the shiitake mushrooms inside Since it’s chicken, you can eat it quickly and easily This is delicious sticky rice This looks like a Japanese dish, doesn’t it? It really feels like okowa, doesn’t it? It resembles the okowa steamed with geothermal heat that I had at a hot spring resort It’s easy to eat and delicious I’m glad it was delicious This is also a food that is commonly seen in Taiwan I ate this when I went to the night market in Taipei, and it was delicious It has a crispy texture and juicy sweetness I think I’ll have something sweet at the end It seems that the shop on my right is famous for papaya milk I’ll have the papaya milk It’s perfect for after a meal, allowing you to enjoy both the rich sweetness and the refreshing fruitiness of the papaya It’s delicious because you can’t easily find papaya in Japan It was a night market filled with delicious shops I came to a place near the night market where I can eat Taiwanese sweets Let’s take a look at the menu I was thinking of having douhua (tofu pudding), but I see there is also kakigori (shaved ice) Oh! This looks like strawberry ice cream and mango ice cream, it seems delicious There is also pineapple Pickled tomatoes are interesting, aren’t they? This is the first time I’ve seen tomatoes used in sweets It’s blue apple shaved ice, isn’t it? It looks really delicious, so I’ll go with this one There is also Oolong snow ice There is also a bear The seasonal strawberries look delicious I came to eat douhua, but I’m feeling lost It’s getting a bit chilly now, so warm douhua looks delicious Warm douhua looks delicious And it’s a rare blue apple shaved ice And then, there are mysterious little beads that look like salmon roe Since they are too big to be salmon roe, what could this be? I love douhua, so I was looking forward to eating it Douhua is not commonly eaten in Japan Is there anyone who dislikes this? The moderate sweetness is nice, isn’t it? The umami of this soybean and the sweetness of the adzuki bean-based soup are delicious It’s a delicious dessert, and the best part is that you feel no guilt after eating it In Taipei, we don’t eat this warm douhua It’s delicious precisely because it’s a little cold And I’ll also have the blue ring shaved ice After all, the ice in Taiwan is crunchy, isn’t it? This is really a green apple, isn’t it? It feels like green apple sorbet ice And now, I will have the mysterious salmon roe The texture is like salmon roe, but it’s sweet What is this? A rich sweetness like melon bursts in your mouth Is it about enjoying the crunchy texture and the icy texture of this shaved ice together? That’s luxurious I think people who like sweets will enjoy this It looks great, so ladies, please come and check it out It’s a place where even two guys like us can have fun, so don’t worry, gentlemen We’ve returned near the hotel This is the most famous Liuhe Night Market for Japanese people This night market is popular with tourists Earlier, there were many stalls in a narrow alley, but here, there are many stalls lined up on a wider street The atmosphere is different, isn’t it? I think this night market is more accessible for tourists The liveliness and the number of people were greater at the previous night market This night market also has plenty of stalls lined up and delicious-looking food If you like night markets, you can hop from one to another, or choose the atmosphere you prefer and enjoy the night market I fully enjoyed my day in Kaohsiung Day 3 I came to eat breakfast The hotel breakfast is delicious, but since we’re here, I wanted to introduce a place that feels very Taiwanese It’s a popular spot with a local atmosphere There are many types of bread lined up We came to eat a famous dish called Shen Dou Jiang (salty soy soup) Should I place my order at the back? The freshly baked meat buns look really delicious It’s a bit cold in the morning, so I want to eat this warm meat bun There are about four different types, right? There are meat buns filled with regular meat and vegetables This is a freshly made meat bun It’s steaming and looks really delicious I heard that this is a type of bread similar to fried bread, and it’s delicious when dipped in soy milk This is a famous food from Taiwan, called Shen Dou Jiang (salty soy soup) It contains soy milk, tofu, shrimp, chives, green onions, and other vegetables, so it seems healthy as well I will enjoy the meat bun Meat buns are delicious, aren’t they? They’re really big and fluffy, and they’re packed with meat, with juices overflowing I think meat buns are delicious and that everyone loves them I will have Shen Dou Jiang It’s based on tofu and has a very mild flavor that’s perfect for the morning; it’s delicious Shen Dou Jiang is a savory soup made with warm soy milk and a base of vinegar or soy sauce It contains dried shrimp, green onions, and a few vegetables, adding a slight roasted flavor As you can tell by the color, this soup is spicier than the one I had in Taipei There’s nothing too spicy Personally, I like this because it’s refreshing Since it’s tofu, it seems healthy and is good as a breakfast option This fried bread-like pastry from Taiwan is also a classic, isn’t it? Shall we dip it in Shen Dou Jiang? I remember the Shen Dou Jiang I had in Taipei being a bit more liquid This is quite tofu-like, isn’t it? It’s delicious It has a donut-like feel, but it’s not too sweet and has a nice spice to it, making it delicious I also ordered soy milk I thought I ordered it hot, but I ended up with cold soy milk It seems like my English didn’t get through The person in the next seat is drinking delicious-looking warm soy milk With just this order, it’s probably around 300 yen, so it’s a great deal As expected, at a more casual restaurant, you can have breakfast at quite an affordable price I will check out of the hotel in Kaohsiung and then go sightseeing in Tainan Since the new Shinkansen station in Kaohsiung is far from the city center, I think it’s more efficient to take the local express or limited express train to Tainan When you enter, the ticket counter is right in front of you When I told the clerk that I wanted to go to Tainan, they prepared the ticket for the nearest time slot The electronic display board is also very easy to understand I will take the train at 10:05 A SEIKO watch from Japan is being used The ticket gate is exactly the same as the ones commonly seen in Japan It’s exactly the same, so it’s definitely a Japanese-made ticket gate The presence of a stop line in front gives it a Japanese feel It takes about 35 minutes from Kaohsiung Station to Tainan Station We have arrived at Tainan Station There’s a bit of a retro feel The Tainan station and the stations I have passed through so far were built during the Japanese colonial period The station building is quite old Tainan has a completely different atmosphere compared to Kaohsiung Tainan has a strong influence from the Japanese colonial era that remains evident There are many old buildings, both good and bad, such as the station Kaohsiung has completely transformed into a city of artistic new buildings The tiles on the ground have a shape that can only be seen in Japan, so it’s immediately clear that they were made by Japanese people The exterior was under renovation, so I think it will change from its retro feel Will they keep the retro atmosphere inside the station? Will it take on a somewhat Western style and be close to Tokyo Station? The exterior will be transformed to look like this, huh? Does this mean that Taiwan is graduating from Japan as well? As a Japanese person, it may be a bit lonely, but it might be a joyful thing It is a happy thing for my child to grow up and become independent Japan cannot afford to fall behind It’s not the time to be saying things like ‘it’s over’ (internet slang), so let’s all do our best By the way, this is what the atmosphere in front of the station looks like It’s a big city just like Kaohsiung The population of Kaohsiung is about 2.7 million, while Tainan has around 1.9 million Both are huge cities with populations exceeding one million In Japan, there are only a few cities with populations over 1.5 million, so you can see how metropolitan these two are Tainan was the capital in the past Tainan is a city with many historical heritages, so I’m looking forward to sightseeing I will stay one night at the ‘Cambridge Hotel’, which is about a 15-minute walk from Tainan Station There is a famous tourist spot nearby called ‘Chihkan Tower’, so I will walk there We’ve arrived at our destination, but is it under renovation? There is something written here This is under renovation, this is under renovation, this is under renovation, and the one at the top is also under renovation It can’t be helped Since we came all this way and the entrance fee isn’t that high, shall we go in? We went inside Even if I say, ‘This is it,’ it doesn’t get across at all If it were true, there should be a building here that looks something like this I will explain what this building is Tainan here was initially developed by the Dutch Among the buildings created by the Dutch, this one is the oldest, making it a famous heritage tourist spot The amount of koi here is amazing! It’s quite a sight to see this many koi swimming There are a lot of koi where the water is flowing in You can also see such a beautiful garden landscape The koi were all driven over here because the area under this building is under renovation So they are cramped and living here, huh? When I came to the back of the building, I was able to see a building that looked like that It is said to have been built during the time when the Netherlands ruled the colonies, but it has a Chinese-like atmosphere, doesn’t it? This building is a fusion of Western and Chinese styles, with a brick foundation from the Dutch era and traditional Chinese roof tiles and red pillars added This is a magnificent brick structure that serves as the foundation of the building There is a model here This is a building that was constructed during the Dutch colonial period It’s completely different from now I heard that this building has collapsed multiple times due to earthquakes and aging The building I saw outside earlier was restored during the Japanese colonial period Does that mean this building was also built by Japan? I thought it didn’t really feel Dutch This building clearly has the atmosphere of East Asian architecture I climbed up to the top of the building I heard that in the past, they used to watch over the port from the observation deck Perhaps the view is nice This place is covered in greenery As expected, I can’t see the ocean In modern times, many buildings taller than this castle have been built, obstructing the view Perhaps the view would be better from the top of the building on the left Let’s celebrate the evolution of humanity as it is Well, this area really feels like a ruin There is something interesting This large stone monument is on top of the turtle In Chinese culture, turtles are considered symbols of longevity and good fortune The roots of the tree in the back are spread out in an amazing shape That landscape is almost like a symbol of longevity I am walking again towards the next spot There is a ‘Komeda Coffee Shop’ (a Japanese coffee chain) It is written in Chinese as ‘Kè Měi Duō Kā Fēi’ Is it pronounced ‘Komeda’? They are using that kanji to make it pronounced similarly to ‘Komeda’ in Japanese Well, it seems like it would be understood even if pronounced normally as ‘Komeda’ It seems like it is pronounced as ‘Komeda’ I can see the department store I was aiming for I’m glad this place isn’t under renovation This is the famous department store called ‘Hayashi Department Store’ The retro appearance is impressive It is named Hayashi Department Store because it was founded by a person named Hayashi during the Japanese colonial period This department store temporarily closed after Japan’s defeat in the war and was used as an office for the Kuomintang in the post-war period Since the 1980s, it had once fallen into ruin Later, in 2014, it was restored over about two years with the cooperation of the Taiwanese government and local businesses, and it was reborn as a magnificent commercial facility It has become one of the popular tourist spots due to such historical background The building across from the department store also exudes a retro feel with a hint of Western atmosphere It’s a magnificent bank, isn’t it? You can see many nostalgic buildings like this in the streets of Tainan Let’s go inside It’s a lovely interior full of retro charm There are many delicious-looking sweets lined up on the first floor When it comes to Taiwan, this pineapple cake is definitely famous, isn’t it? So this is the popular number 2, huh? It says ‘Limited to Hayashi Department Store,’ so there are sweets that can only be bought here They also have Japanese wagashi ‘dorayaki’ here I saw dorayaki in mainland China too, so it must be popular over here An old Hitachi television is proudly displayed in the center And what we have here is the very first elevator built in Taiwan, right? It seems that the elevator made by Japanese people was quite a topic at the time, attracting many Taiwanese who were curious about it Even now, it exudes a sense of luxury and is a truly magnificent elevator, isn’t it? The tiles are impressive It’s quite narrow It has a luxurious feel, but the inside is very compact On the second floor, there are many cosmetic products for sale It seems more like a place to enjoy shopping rather than a historical building There are quite a few cute things displayed There is an easy-to-understand map of Taiwan Taipei, which everyone in Japan knows, is at the top In my video introducing the eastern side over here, the views haven’t been increasing, but this place is also full of nature and really fun There are places like Taitung and Hualien Please be sure to check out the video about Taichung as well And this time I came to Tainan and Kaohsiung On my YouTube channel, I was able to travel all around Taiwan This is the logo of the Hayashi Department Store, isn’t it? If you look closely, it certainly resembles the shape of the kanji “林” (hayashi) There are many people with the name “Hayashi” in Japan “Mr. Hayashi” must want this logo, right? Is that embarrassing? For me, even if it says Koya here, I wouldn’t want it, so I think I’ll sell merchandise on YouTube The retro feel of the stairs is amazing too I don’t think there are any stores in Japan that operate as a department store with such a nostalgic atmosphere In that sense, it’s truly a rare experience There is a dining restaurant on the rooftop There are coffee shops and restaurants The rooftop is like an open terrace that feels spacious There are chairs that look like buns with the ‘Hayashi’ logo on them I didn’t know they sold buns like this There’s also a retro post box on the right Can we see the sea from here? As expected, I can’t see the ocean from here There are many skyscrapers built in the distance The bank I was looking at earlier looks very beautiful from here That’s a magnificent building, isn’t it? There are bullet marks here If you look up, you can see signs of destruction This is a scar from the air raids by the U.S. military during World War II It seems that some parts of the urban area around here also suffered significant damage during World War II In Japan, the Atomic Bomb Dome has a strong impact, but I think it’s rare to see such small scars in Japan I felt like having something sweet, so let’s try some Taiwanese sweets The atmosphere of the shop, filled with a retro vibe, is nice I will try peanut douhua for the first time on this trip I thought it looked really delicious when the same YouTuber, ‘Maibaru Travel,’ ate it, so I will have some too A fantastic shaved ice has just arrived in front of me, but I’ll capture it on camera later It’s delicious It got quite hot by noon, so cold douhua is the best The crunchiness of the ice, the crispness of the peanuts, and the smoothness of the douhua create a gentle flavor that spreads a subtle sweetness, making it delicious Adding peanuts really makes it crunchy and fragrant, which is great What he ordered is a giant pineapple shaved ice Even though he’s not interested in Instagram aesthetics, he’s excited and taking lots of photos That looks delicious! Pineapple jam is really delicious The pineapple jam looks rich It has fruit pieces, is sweet, and has a bit of acidity I can feel Taiwan’s seriousness Your jacket, the yellow chair behind you, and that pineapple are nicely gathered in the center I can’t tell which one is the pineapple and which one is the shaved ice I just had dessert, but I’m going to have lunch now I came to a popular restaurant near the department store This is the famous Ta-a noodles The flavor comes through from the aroma The side dish is fried oysters from Tainan I also ordered some vegetables like greens It’s delicious It has a delicious garlic flavor because it’s eaten with melted garlic It’s a bit lighter than Jiro-style ramen It also contains cilantro, giving it a fresher flavor It is topped with green onions and bean sprouts It feels like a ‘Jiro-style light noodle’ The portion is small, so I think I need to order other side dishes to feel satisfied It’s perfectly fine to have something this small because I can enjoy a variety of flavors The price is also reasonable I think it’s good for those who find Jiro-style ramen too heavy to eat Just as Japanese people get hooked on Jiro-style ramen, Taiwanese people might be hooked on Ta-a noodles I enjoy eating fried oysters with salt I choked on the pepper It’s delicious The oysters are small, but the batter is crispy and has an addictive flavor I want a beer This is the best I don’t think there is anyone who dislikes fried oysters and beer These garlic-flavored noodles also pair well with beer It’s too luxurious for the afternoon I was thinking of going to a cafe I was curious about, but since there was a tourist spot near the cafe, I decided to come here instead It seems there is a school called ‘Confucius Temple’ that was the first to be built in Taiwan There are many children I wonder if the school building was built a long time ago and is still being used The building is really new, isn’t it? If this is the building, that’s amazing It’s incredible that the first school built in Taiwan is still so lively today On the other side, there was a gate that looked like a tourist attraction I really didn’t think it was that building There is an old-fashioned building right in front of me It seems that there is a building called ‘Confucius Temple’ beyond this gate It looks like a beautiful park and has a nice atmosphere I feel like the air has suddenly become much cleaner I saw some people who looked like art university students sketching and having fun around here I think it’s this building, but it doesn’t look much like a school So this is the first school that was established in Taiwan It seems we can go inside, so shall we give it a try? There is a magnificent building here This is the building called ‘Confucius Temple’ The name ‘Confucius’ is often heard, but many people might not be able to explain who he is Confucius was a Chinese person who valued etiquette and the right way of living He was someone who taught many people about morality and politics His teachings are still valued in Japan and other Asian countries as the philosophy known as ‘Confucianism.’ Confucianism is a way of thinking that has influenced rules in schools and families, such as valuing elders and being considerate of friends This is a temple dedicated to Confucius, and there is also a school here What is in the middle here is a temple called a shrine If you go further in, there is a place dedicated to Confucius And I believe the buildings around are schools This building is the oldest school in Taiwan That dragon is amazing The dragon shape at the very top really stands out In Chinese culture, dragons are considered special beings and can be seen in various architectural structures In the Chinese-speaking world, dragons seem to symbolize power, authority, and good fortune It seems that when children skip studying, the teachers would point to that dragon and tell the students, ‘If you skip, the dragon will get angry.’ It is said that Confucius really loved studying He apparently used all the pocket money he received for snacks as a child to buy books for reading It’s just like our activities on YouTube, isn’t it? We love YouTube so much that we spend so much time editing that we forget to eat It’s not so much that we love YouTube, but rather that we’re too busy to do anything else We’re doing our best to live When you pass through this gate and step outside, there is a stone gate right in front of you It seems that this was originally the main gate It now has a completely modern atmosphere I think the area further back is also a street lined with shops We arrived at the cafe we were aiming for, just a short walk from the Confucius Temple It’s called ‘Narrow Door Cafe.’ It doesn’t look like a cafe at all, does it? Dosukoi-san, do you know where the cafe is? Is this the place where there are a lot of books? Since it’s called ‘Narrow Door’, this is the entrance It seems to be in here This is surprising People with large bodies can’t fit in, right? It’s impossible if you’re carrying luggage I think there are people who can only enter by walking sideways like a crab I wonder if I can get in while holding my luggage There is a possibility of getting stuck in the wall I barely made it through What should I do if an earthquake occurs? This experience is interesting and new for me Can Dosukoi-san come in straight? That’s really cutting it close This is really impossible for someone with a big build As you go further in, it gets wider Moreover, this staircase is a bit narrow too It seems difficult to pass by someone coming from the opposite side I have arrived at the cafe There is a nice aroma of coffee The entrance is really stylish The atmosphere here is really nice, isn’t it? This cafe has a retro atmosphere, and the coloring is quite cute, isn’t it? The seating continues all the way over here If you sit by the window, you can catch a glimpse of the Confucius Temple area At this time of year, a pleasant breeze comes in, and it feels really nice I love coffee, so I decided to order estate coffee Dosukoi-san ordered an interesting tea called ‘Tibetan butter tea’ There are also desserts We have toast, apple pie, croissants, butter pie, and more Dosukoi seems to be ordering everything with butter I ordered this homemade limited edition cheesecake This menu has information about that narrow gate It seems that the narrow entrance had a meaning There seems to be a saying in the Bible: ‘Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.’ To summarize, it seems to suggest that ‘there is light in the path that may feel like a narrow gate, rather than choosing an easy road that everyone takes.’ But I think there is a possibility that the land was only available here Even if that were the case, normally you wouldn’t think of building a café in such a small place, would you? I think it’s wonderful that there are efforts to connect such a lovely story and satisfy customers There is a wish that customers will pass through the narrow gate and find happiness Please do come everyone Dosukoi-san mentioned that if he gains a little more weight, he might not be able to come anymore I believe that happiness comes to those who practice self-discipline, so let’s do our best The butter pie that Dosukoi-san ordered looks delicious It looks delicious with plenty of fresh cream I’ll have some coffee The flavor is strong and delicious It has a slight acidity and a sweet aroma, making it an easy-to-drink coffee And I’ll have the homemade cheesecake It’s a delicious cheesecake made with rich cheese The atmosphere of the café is really nice The pleasant breeze and the green scenery are wonderful This retro space and the selection of jazz music as background music are also very calming Dosukoi-san also said that he likes this place and wants to do editing work here This is a recommended café that includes the excitement and fun of entering There are art museums around here, and Western-style architecture is lined up This area is the Confucius Temple Since the Netherlands ruled here at first, both Japanese culture and Western culture have left a strong mark in Tainan I can also feel the atmosphere similar to Nagasaki, Japan On the left, there are Western-style buildings, and on the right, many motorcycles are running, creating a Southeast Asian vibe The building visible in the back has an atmosphere reminiscent of Japan in the Showa era It’s interesting to really feel various cultures in the city Next, we arrived at a place called ‘Shennong Street.’ This street still retains the old townscape of Taiwan This town was built over 200 years ago Streets like this can also be found in China, right? Chinese tourist destinations are all like this China is also making its streets look like the old town, isn’t it? Chinese tourist spots are recreating old streets, aren’t they? This place looks like a really old town, not just a reproduction Since the lanterns are lit, it seems like we could take some nice atmospheric photos It seems that the shops are open on weekends The store is closed today because it’s a weekday I think it gets busier on weekends But there are still quite a few tourists, and everyone is taking Instagram-worthy photos There are also stylish accessory shops here It seems that in the past, many merchants gathered here, and it was famous as a lively market The scale isn’t that large; it feels like the shops are lined up along this straight street of about 100 meters I found a delicious-looking sweet that resembles Imagawa-yaki from Japan, so I’m going to try it That looks like a ‘mini bombie’ (a character from a Japanese game), doesn’t it? Thank you for the mini bombie It’s just delicious, isn’t it? Since it’s freshly baked, the outside is fragrant and tasty The inside is really gooey I ordered brown sugar mochi, and it has a chewy texture with the deliciousness of brown sugar and the flavor of custard As soon as we bought it, everyone else started lining up It’s thanks to us, isn’t it? That’s not true; it’s just a popular restaurant I think I’ll have dinner at this restaurant tonight It seems like a famous restaurant where I can enjoy Tainan cuisine, so I’m looking forward to it They have course meals, don’t they? I’ll try ordering the course that includes the local specialty ‘crab sticky rice’ It’s about 8000 yen, so it’s expensive, but I want to share a lot of information with everyone, so I’ll go with this course You can also order the crab rice as a single item There are also dishes that are characteristic of Tainan I’m also curious about the appetizers and specialty dishes There are also many stir-fried dishes The fried rice with karasumi and shrimp fried rice both look delicious First, the appetizer was served “Natural karasumi assortment” is written Karasumi is a specialty of Tainan This is squid Cheers to the second half of the trip! I’m curious about this meat-like thing in the appetizer I’ll dip it in this thick sauce It’s delicious The inside is like minced meat from a meat bun The outside is deep-fried, giving it a slightly crispy and fragrant surface It’s thick, juicy, and delicious Next up is the crab and seafood soup It has plenty of seafood inside, so it must be absolutely delicious I have high expectations for this This is delicious Chinese cuisine The ginger adds a nice accent with its slight spiciness and flavor, similar to a thick sauce There’s just a bit of cilantro on top, which gives it a refreshing aftertaste It contains shrimp and has large pieces of crab inside As expected from a shop that specializes in crab, it’s delicious And here comes the local specialty, ‘crab okowa.’ I came to this restaurant to eat this It’s delicious I feel like it’s quite rare to find such delicious sticky rice It’s the most delicious sticky rice I’ve ever eaten The flavor of crab is properly infused in the sticky rice I never thought I would be moved by sticky rice I also eat this crab miso together with it Adding crab miso enhances the rich umami flavor It goes well with beer This is the best This is ‘Stir-fried Swamp Eel’ The ‘swamp eel’ is said to be a type of eel This has a new texture, doesn’t it? It has a slightly chewy texture, similar to chicken neck meat The eel is a little softer It has a flavor that’s a bit more like chicken than fish It has the flavor of eel, but it also feels like a mild chicken flavor The flavor is fragrant It looks a bit mysterious, but it’s delicious This sauce has a perfect balance of sweetness, acidity, and spices I was really excited about the crab, but surprisingly, this was delicious too This restaurant is at the level of a luxury hotel I tried eel for the first time, and it was delicious There are also dim sum and desserts This is a character I don’t quite understand, but the presentation is cute The dessert is a sweet treat typical of Taiwan It is filled with plenty of sweet potatoes and red beans I will enjoy this It’s filled with custard inside It’s a sweet and delicious dessert I’ll also have some Taiwanese sweets It’s nicely cold, and the chewy texture combined with the refined sweetness of the red beans is delicious It’s a flavor that all Japanese people love Tainan has fun night markets and plenty of delicious food The B-class gourmet food I plan to eat tomorrow morning and afternoon is also delicious However, surprisingly, there isn’t much information about high-end restaurants This is a famous place, and I found it to be delicious when I came here The crab rice and the eel were delicious, weren’t they? It was a taste I’ve never experienced in my life before I recommend it to those who want to splurge a little and enjoy something delicious I checked into the Cambridge Hotel where I’m staying today The toilet and sink in the bathroom are clean Even though it’s a foreign country, there is a proper deep bathtub The room is quite spacious This time I was able to stay for under 10,000 yen, so it’s a good value Since it’s located in the city, we can walk to the tourist spots, so let’s enjoy sightseeing tomorrow as well Good night Day 3 It’s the last day of the Kaohsiung and Tainan trip The staff at the Cambridge Hotel spoke Japanese, so it was very comfortable I am going to have breakfast now I will head to the restaurant by taxi This is the shop I came to for breakfast I’m looking forward to a restaurant where I can drink soup made from a fish called ‘Sabahii’ It’s a style where you write your order on the menu yourself I’ll try ordering Sabahii porridge and ‘grilled Sabahii’ There is a menu with pictures in the store, so it’s easy to understand As expected of a popular restaurant, it’s bustling with customers It opens at 4 AM and closes at 2 PM, so you need to come in the morning or at lunch This is sabahie soup Since it’s porridge, I think it also contains rice There are a lot of mackerel skins This grilled mackerel looks delicious too It smells good It’s delicious It’s a soup that seems to exist in Japan but doesn’t ※ ‘Sabahii’ is a fish that cannot be caught in Japan The soup, which is well infused with fish broth, is delicious There is absolutely no fishy smell, and the soup is concentrated with the umami of the fish The aftertaste is very refreshing This porridge is delicious It’s nutritious and made with rice, making it perfect for breakfast If I eat this every day, it seems like I would become deliciously healthy It’s delicious This might be the most delicious porridge I’ve ever had in my life I will also eat the fish skin Tainan seems to be a city of gourmet food in Taiwan Since it’s an ancient capital, I wonder if it has also been the origin of food culture I’ll also try the grilled mackerel This is crispy, juicy, and delicious It has a roasted flavor that you don’t get with porridge I want this store to be close to my house I would like to come here when I don’t feel like making breakfast Moreover, it’s healthy I hope it becomes popular in Japan We have arrived at a tourist spot called ‘Anping Fort’, which is about a 10-minute walk from the store we were at earlier I think it’s safe to say that this is the most famous tourist destination in Tainan I explained that there was a time when the Netherlands ruled in the 1600s This is a place where many remnants of the oldest castles built by the Dutch remain This red brick construction gives off a Western atmosphere, doesn’t it? It is now beautifully landscaped and has become a tourist destination like a garden It is a place where you can also experience a nostalgic atmosphere in some areas It is the oldest castle in Tainan, a building that was constructed about 400 years ago At that time, it was an era when not only the Netherlands but also European countries like Portugal and Spain were trying to occupy Asian countries The Netherlands also saw that Taiwan was the perfect place to serve as a trading hub with Japan and mainland China So, the Netherlands came here with the intention of making Taiwan their territory At that time, a person known as the hero of Taiwan, Zheng Chenggong, appeared It was this Zheng Chenggong who drove out the Dutch who had occupied the land The present-day Taiwan exists thanks to this person By the way, it is said that Zheng Chenggong’s mother was Japanese His mother was from Nagasaki, born in Japan, and later went to China to study This lighthouse is often featured in guidebooks It was used as a watchtower at the time, but now it has become a tourist spot as an observation deck The roof of this building located below the observation deck is definitely made of Japanese tiles, isn’t it? The lower part is constructed in a style reminiscent of Western architecture There are many buildings like this in Nagasaki, aren’t there? You can often see this kind of architecture at Glover Garden in Nagasaki Originally built by the Dutch, it is said that this castle was used as an office during the period of Japanese rule This building might have been a government office Since we’re here, let’s try climbing up to the observation deck You can go all the way up for free I’m looking forward to the scenery I still haven’t seen the sea since yesterday I’ve made it to the very top The view here is great This is the tallest building in the area, so you can see far into the distance You can also see the beautiful river in the middle Which way is the sea? Since this is east, let’s look to the south I can see the sea I’ll zoom in a bit You can see the ocean all the way back here I’m finally happy to see the ocean I think the bricks around here have indeed been repaired This area has been turned into a flower garden This wall has an impressive feel with branches stuck to it I think it clearly has a sense of antiquity I believe this is probably the brick wall that has existed continuously since ancient times It’s incredible that it has remained for about 400 years This landscape evokes the bricks blown away by the atomic bomb at the Nagasaki Peace Park There is a place that resembles a temple near the castle we just visited This is a temple built by Zheng Chenggong’s subordinates after he reclaimed the castle from the Dutch The gate is truly magnificent, which shows how much of a presence Zheng Chenggong had This is a famous tourist spot in Tainan, so it’s bustling with tourists There are several stalls There are many food stalls lined up around the castle, so you can enjoy walking around and eating It’s hot during the day, so I think I’ll have something cold Watermelon juice looks delicious Taiwan is famous for this lemon jelly-like dessert, right? I tried ordering this jelly It seems to be a drink with added acidity from syrup and lemon It’s difficult to convey the contents because the container is not transparent This shape has been common lately, but its appeal is not getting through As I showed you earlier, it contains jelly Let’s eat It’s the perfect drink to enjoy when it’s hot, with a refreshing sourness It contains shaved ice inside, so the crunchy texture of the shaved ice and the chewy jelly feel great together It’s a very popular summer drink among Taiwanese people This is an interesting area as well The view in front of me is truly spectacular This place used to be used as a warehouse in the past I think it’s a warehouse built by the Dutch Over time, it has become a scene where the banyan tree completely covers the bricks It’s a place where you can see a mystical landscape Wow, that’s amazing! The roots are crawling all the way to the bottom of the building, making it look like a movie set The stairs are well-maintained so that you can see every corner You can see from the top part of the root to the bottom part This area is amazing The roots are sprawling in various directions to the point where you wouldn’t know there was a warehouse unless someone told you The banyan tree seems to have a really strong survival ability It seems that the reason it crawls on the bricks is a desire to get to a higher place to bask in the sunlight For that reason, it seems to wrap around the wall and extend its roots The Gajumaru tree seems to have an exceptionally strong survival ability compared to other plants in the forest It has really strong roots, so it is said to have enough destructive power to crush bricks in some cases There are scenes in movies where roots entangle humans, and it seems that this is where the inspiration comes from It seems that the Ficus macrophylla can live by absorbing moisture from the air You can also feel the strength of life, and this dappled sunlight is truly beautiful It looks like it would be fun to search for photo spots This is rock hard It’s stuck on as hard as this stone It can’t be peeled off by human hands at all I can’t believe this is a tree I have no idea how far the roots extend It stretches out like a pipe It’s amazing how beautifully it has grown So it means it’s growing towards the light There is a song by Mr. Children (a Japanese band) called ‘Towards the Light’ Let’s not give up hope and steadily move towards the light, step by step Travel teaches us such things as well I heard that if you go through the warehouse from earlier, there is a viewpoint where you can see the mangroves In front of us is a river lined with mangrove forests Unlike the Ficus microcarpa tree from earlier, this mangrove is actually a very weak tree in the forest It seems that it has been pushed to the sea because it can’t survive against stronger trees Seawater is probably not very good for trees It seems that mangroves have developed the ability to excrete salt because they have no choice but to live here That’s why mangroves inhabit coastal areas The theory of evolution in living organisms is truly fascinating As Darwin said, the strongest are those that can change in order to survive It’s the same for us YouTubers Only those who can change will survive It’s the same as me going to places where no one else goes Even if Dosukoi-san couldn’t succeed as a salaryman and was pushed out, he is able to shine by changing there Never give up on life, everyone It’s a place that teaches you such things too Travel is an investment in yourself This is a place where you can truly feel the presence of Charles Darwin It seems there is also a cruise nearby to enjoy the mangroves If you have time, I also recommend taking the cruise We can’t go this time, but I’d like to try going when we come next time This is the last lunch time before returning home I came to Tainan to enjoy the local cuisine at the end of my trip There is a long line Surprisingly, it took about 10 minutes to get in What I ordered is this specialty called beef hot pot I will also order beef fried rice and stir-fried greens This is the soup that is filled with plenty of beef inside And the beef fried rice smells really good Furthermore, this is beef stir-fry This is stir-fried greens I will have my first beef soup This has a rich flavor with a strong beef taste that spreads out deliciously However, the aftertaste is refreshing and easy to drink I think it has no particularly strong quirks and is a flavor that everyone in Japan would enjoy I saw reviews that said the fried rice was also well-received The fried rice is delicious, isn’t it? The rice has a nice fluffy texture, and the beef flavor is just right The saltiness is not too strong, and the taste is not too rich, making it delicious It’s truly exquisite, just as the high reviews suggest I want to eat it every day It was a journey where I could fully enjoy the gourmet food and history that can only be experienced here I hope everyone will also visit the charming cities of Kaohsiung and Tainan
