Delicious Katsudon Japanese Pork Cutlet Bowl and Meiji Jingu in Tokyo Japan – vlog #041 part 1

[Music] hey guys today it’s Tuesday December 5th today I’m actually in Shibuya at the moment and we’re gonna be exploring a couple places that I’ve been wanting to go to especially the Meiji Jingu area seeing how every time I go there it’s freakin clothes so for the most part I’m out in the back alleys of Shibuya we’re gonna grab some lunch at this place called zuikou which is known for the cuts udon and this place is kind of in the back alleys of Shibuya but I’m currently at the spot right now so we’ll show you where it’s at it’s kind of it’s a little bit hard to find it’s out of the way but for the most part I heard the cuts are done it’s really good here so we’re trying to find this restaurant so is actually in this little alley strip or it’s kind of like a building slash hallway so the restaurants gonna be located on the first floor hopefully they’re open believe this is the restaurant right here zuikou this place pretty much only a nine there’s eggs and rice living I believe and this is like some kind of like a vegetable here’s what the interior of the restaurant looks like once you order your food they start repairing it right away and this place is pretty quick on making your order so since the kitchen so close to the counter where you’re sitting at you get to watch them fry up the tonkatsu scoop up the hot piping rice and also make the egg as well so here is our cuts with them so here’s what you’ll see is super runny a nice fried pork cutlet and they put likes their own sauce in here and then under better rice so let’s dig in and try out a piece of this now we’re gonna try a piece of the cuts it on so the catalyst of insight super-tender agency in the sauce phenomenal let me tell you that for 1000 yen this definitely was a really good cut Sudan like they gave you a huge bowl of rice the sauce with it was very good the runny egg the katsu itself well so good definitely definitely worth it going here it’s a little bit cramped yes there’s only like eight seats there but I didn’t have to wait there’s already three seats available I read online that there might be a way to felt like a bomb like 20 minutes or 30 minutes but no line here it came at around noon and it’s Tuesday all right so we’re gonna head to streamers coffee right here hopefully they have Donuts left city house that afternoon well we’re gonna grab some coffee some donuts and then we’re gonna head to Meiji Jingu once and for all this is the inside of streamers coffee [Music] they submerge gear here you are much scared Grima copy company had stickers [Music] to streams from my face I really need to learn happy so they actually have quite a lot of location so this is streamers expresso in various locations this one’s in a stadium and then here’s streamers coffee company so they have a lot of locations all over so I ended up ordering the military latte which is their signature drink here I’m going to take a sip by our military latte hmm well this is really good meaning definitely takes a lot of green tea in here some white chocolate and also the special as well is really good here I’m like struggling holding the cup because the cup is like super heavy it’s kind of like a soup bowl so you get a really huge latte for the most part latte was really good they’re definitely sad though that they didn’t have the donut that I wanted they had like this military donut looked like green tea chocolate and vanilla all at the same time and they didn’t have it because I didn’t come early enough but it’s okay alright so the next place that we’re at is the Meiji Jingu or the Meiji Shrine so this place has been closed every single time I visited seeing how I don’t actually get here early enough I’m bad with times but if you’re gonna visit here be sure to check out online on their hours because their hours change from month to month and also what’s nice about visiting the Meiji Jingu is that it’s a free place for you to visit so what you can expect when coming here is to see a whole bunch of nature like a lot of nature but what’s nice right now is that during this month a lot of the trees are changing different colors so I see some yellow red some of them are purple but there’s still a lot of them that are green here and while they’re still fairly warm it’s about about 65 degrees Fahrenheit which is pretty warm for me it’s like fall weather back in Chicago while you’re walking through this area you’ll probably see a few things for example you’ll see these gates all around the paths and each of these gates are donated by benefactors and they have signs as well listing out the description and name of these gates for the things that you see here there’ll be signs here in Japanese and English give me your description of what it is as you continue along the path tip I see two big displays one being a huge display of sake barrels the other being a huge display of wine barrels all the alcohol that you see here was donated so the sake that you see here was donated from various Brewers from across Japan and the wine was donated from France the wine in the sake are gonna be used for special ceremonies and festivals that are healthier as you continue along the path you’ll eventually reach this amazing shrine at the end when you’re visiting this place be sure to be respectful as well seeing how this place is also a place of worship alright so we’re gonna head down towards the main area of the meiji shrine so the first thing that you might see on the right hand side is a shop so i’ve seen pictures and videos where there’s multiple shops open but seeing how it’s the wintertime and it’s pretty cold out they probably only have one shop open and they expect less foot traffic to come through but from what i saw that they were selling they were selling things like protective charms relationship charms lucky charms not the cereal but they were also selling prayer cards and talismans as well but if you’re looking for some souvenirs from meiji jingu stop by the gift shop but now we’re gonna head on towards the main area of the shrine here’s a 360 view of the Meiji Shrine although this place has been here for a long time a lot of it looks brand-new and this is because they’ve been fixing it and maintaining it whenever necessary and as you can see they have a section here that’s blocked off with fences where they’re doing renovations although the Meiji Jingu may not be as crowded since og temple this place has a very nice and relaxing atmosphere to it please use the vault on tablet to write down your prayers to Dedes and your feelings of gratitude and appreciation oh there’s a lot of these well it was like there’s people there’s people around the world too it’s like different languages here Japanese English I think there’s some Arabic here too as well so some languages I don’t recognize I’m going to have to leave the Meiji Jingu seeing how it’s almost 4 o’clock ends about to close but we’re gonna head on to our next destination which is going to give us a beautiful view of the Tokyo night sky but this is going to have to happen in the next part so stay tuned [Music]

Our first stop in today will be at Zuichou 瑞兆 in Shibuya Tokyo Japan where we’ll be grabbing lunch. This place is known for only 1 dish which is their Katsudon. Katsudon is a Japanese Pork Cutlet Bowl and contains a fried panko crusted pork cutlet, egg, katsu sauce, and rice. Their tonkatsu sauce is their own blend is is like a sweetened light bbq sauce. This place can only seat 8 people however, the food comes out really fast! My order only took 5 minutes to prepare. Be sure to bring cash because they do not accept credit card.

The next place we’ll be visiting is Streamer Coffee Company which has many coffee shops throughout Japan. Their latte art is pretty awesome and the Military Latte was really good, probably one of my favorite coffee shops in Tokyo. The latte contains green tea, white chocolate, and espresso. For those in the U.S. if Japan is too far, Streamer Coffee Company opened a sister location in Chicago called Sawada’s Coffee as well 👌

If you’re looking for some things to do in Tokyo, I recommend visiting the Meiji Jingu (Meiji Shrine). This place is free to visit and located in Shibuya. The hours differ every month so be sure to check out opening and closing hours before you visit. As of this time it’s under renovations, due to the Olympics happening in 2020, however it’ll be open up later this year. This is a pretty peaceful place to visit and if you like walks and enjoy seeing the beauty of nature and historical architecture then this is for you! There are sometimes ceremonies and festivals held here and I know for sure many people visit the Meiji Jingu during New Years there will be millions of people visiting the shrine.

Stay tuned for part 2!

  1. I ate there last time I was in Japan (Oct 2019). Amazing katsudon. I've never found another place to equal it.
