I also love that the well-behaved inmates are treated like humans – strictly controlled, of course, but still humans with a thank-you from the guard after eating lunch.
I do feel sorry for that inmate you interviewed and who got so emotional at the end. Knowing that she has a reason to be here I honestly I hope that her time in prison will be over soon so that she can go back home to her loved ones.

Don't forget everybody, that videos like these are usually filmed under strict guidelines, both for the film crew as well as inmates.
I saw documentaries like these for male prisons and they show everything prim and proper, but reports from inmates who are released are considerably more grim than those documentaries show. Neglect and mistreatment, no psychological care that assists in getting prisoners to reintergrate, but instead a prisoner in distress is more likely to be put into isolation.
In some of these prisons(female prisons too) you can get harsh punishments whenever a guard feels you behaved the tiniest bit incorrectly, but they will never show this in the video.
Japanese culture in that regard(and others) goes by the motto "Seeming is being". So the prison may merely represent itself in a good manner, because it would be a great dishonor to show how bad treatment of some of the inmates may be.
Even for the interviews prisoners are hand selected by the prison management, knowing that it will be prisoners who will cooperate properly and threatened that if they say anything bad about the prison harsh punishments may follow.
While this is an informative video, focusing on the meals and food they prepare in the prison, I have seen some of the comments here calling it a hotel or holiday camp and such.
This video only shows a idealized view of how the life inside a japanese prison really is.
